No. And that goes for the question posted on the threads of other schools you applied to. You applied late. Just wait.

Yea u completed very late ur gona have to give it more time

Did you recently receive the letter? I didn't think they were sending any out over the holidays.

I have a feeling this person may have not actually been accepted if it was over the holidays... Several of us called and were told no letters were being sent out. This person also only posted once and hasn't been back since. Seems fishy....

Wait, no letters over the holidays? Ugh, can't believe we'll all have to wait until 2016 for these decisions. Just doesn't seem right

Longest wait I've had for every single of my interviews. This was my first interview yet I'm waiting near 5 months for decision. Which is insane! The amount of unprofessionalism from them is amazing. If they were gonna take this long should have at least gave a fair warning, or mentioned it won't be the 4-6 weeks mentioned.

I hear you the wait is unacceptable, but how have u been waiting 5 months?, i didnt think they interviewed people in august. i interviewed middle of september and its been 3 months..

Meant to say near 4 months. Which is a messed up amount of time to wait too.

Did anyone who submitted the deposit get a confirmation or something yet? I sent a check and it hasn't been cleared yet. My deadline was January 8 so I might call on Monday to make sure.

yeah I got a confirmation letter via snail mail about 2 weeks later (sent deposit during first week of december). It also contained info about immunization and the application for DPC.

I'm a current first year student. If anyone has any questions feel free to message me directly or post a question here. I'm more than happy to help!

Called NYIT today to try to figure out if I'll ever hear back from them and lady told me it legit could possibly take till the end of April when they stop interviewing......she said the chances are low but that could be a scenario. So yeah....that really is not cool. She also said the decisions do go out by how competetive you are in the application pool so they're sending out acceptances first and then wait lists. I don't wanna say that means the ones that are early and still haven't heard back are wait listed but that's what's looking like to me at this point. Still wanna keep my head up and hope it works out, but it's not looking too great at this point.

my friend just got an acceptance letter today he interviewed early december.

1. Chances are low for what? To hear back by April or this possible scenario to happen?

2. Competitive how? Strictly by numbers? I still haven't heard back since interviewing early December while some people with comparable or less stats who interviewed on same day already got accepted.

The chance of hearing back by April is low, especially for early interviewees. She said the earlier you interviewed no matter what they decide they'll try to get back a bit earlier. But it's still a possibility that you have to wait till April.

I have no idea how they decide competitiveness. Cause personally I consider myself competetive for the school in terms of numbers and extra curricular but I have yet to hear back. I wish I knew more on how they do all of this but I'm just as blind as anyone else. I just end up calling them a lot.

Got an II today to the Arkansas campus, which I'm incredibly confused by seeing as I didn't apply. Unsure as to whether or not I even need to withdraw?

That is very odd. Are you NY resident?

Objectively looking at the general matriculation class stats each year.
The Two osteopathic schools who recruited students with the highest mcat scores have been nyit-com, and lecom bradenton.

But nycom does prefer local and does also look at students with a ton of secondary stats besides just the two main numbers.

Where did you get this info? I think the touros averages are both in the 30s, and several other schools I've been at had the same 28 average as nyitcom

All schools take students who generally have strong EC other than just gpa and MCAT. And my MSUCOM interview they said in their presentation their last two incoming class MCAT score was 33 and 31 much higher than the 28 that NYIT has.

I agree, I think the reason why I havent been accepted yet is because of my MCAT score, its only a 26, but my gpa is 3.82, and i have strong extra-curriculars. I consider myself a pretty strong applicant, considering I already got 5 acceptances!

I interviewed at three of the touros
NY (harlem)
Cali
Nevada

I do agree the touros on the west coast do have very high mcats.
The one in Nevada particularly had a very strong program most of the people I was interviewing with has x>31 mcats.

However when I interviewed at nycom my interviewer informed me that my mcat was very low and that most of the people he saw who were accepted were x>32 mcats and between the lines...he recommended that I shadow a few do's who graduated nycom and get them to write me a few letters of recommendation to show my resourcefulness and dedication lol.
I had a very small window to do so.
But after hours of research I was able to find some do's in the city, took me about 4 weeks but I pulled off three letters of recommendation from nycom graduates. Sent them in. And only a few days after I sent them in, I got my acceptance letter.

At my interview in Bradenton I was pretty much told my mcat was too low and there was nothing I could do about it even retaking the mcast was out of the question because it would be too late in the season.

Long story short some schools value resourcefulness. I never thought that my stats would get me an admission to a us medical school but I worked outside the box and pulled off quiet a few acceptances.

What was your MCAT?? I only have a 26, and I was accepted at Bradenton and Touro, so thats interesting.. NYIT- didnt say anything about my MCAT either..

I'll pm ya
Got into all the touros aswell, with the exception of cali.
They don't like out of staters over there lol

But I'm surprised that Bradenton took ya.
You must have compensated very handsomely with your gpa.
But I assume that your picking Bradenton as ur school to start in the fall?

Did your interviewer really straight off tell you that your MCAT was too low? I mean it's good that he did Nad guided you the way you need to go but it seems really unprofessional to mention that to an interviewee. I personally have MCAT score on the lower side too. But I thought nyit was closed hook and no interviewer was supposed to know your MCAT and gpa.

NYIT is open file interview, but my interviewer never mentioned my numbers. Just standard interview questions and some based on my ECs.

It is closed book.
They asked me what my me what my mcat was what my GPA was
Beside the pre reqs what upper division science classes did I take to prepare me for medical school.
Subsequently me what I got in biochem, orgo, and anatomy and physiology.
Also told me that it's recommended I take genetics because a lot of first year students are surprised when random genetics pops out throughout each class and that it lowers their grades.
They also asked very thoroughly about my research even going as far as to ask about my irb name in case they wanted to look into it, and when, if I was, going to publish.

When I left my interview I got a very hearty handshake followed by a "I look forward to seeing you here in the fall, just make sure you work on those weak points we talked about"

Few weeks later I got my letters of recommendation in and bam got my acceptance. Was the happiest day of my life, shed like 3 tears when I saw that mailman pull up with a white envelope

My interview, and I assume this is the norm, was open file. HOWEVER, my particular interviewer (there were 2 alternating on my day) made it a point to tell me he didn't know my numbers or file because he had been running late and never got the chance to review my stuff. So it was an unintentionally-closed file interview, since he just didn't read the stuff he was given haha. I was happy it worked out that way though, less stress in my opinion

Same experience!

Same experience!

haha, glad to know it wasn't just me!

I think things like this happening, along with their standardized HR-type questions that don't involve your metrics, made the interviews seem as if they were closed-file, even though they had access to the numbers and other info if they really wanted it (and had the time to read it 🙂)

Mine didnt ask me a single thing about my file it was like she never seen my file, i just got asked the standard questions and it was like 10 min. Maybe cause i was the last one to get interviewed. Interviewed 9/22 and didnt hear back yet

Same. Mine didn't even know my stats when I brought them up

Can someone corroborate the number of interviewed applicants? I heard they said some 800 candidates. But word of mouth from students goes way into a thousand.

If that is true that they interview 800 and accept 75% then that would mean that they accept around 600 applicants... So 200 people would likely be wait listed which makes sense since those who interview usually around end of February and into March and April mostly get wait listed

i had the most basic interview ever, like it was basic questions and hobbies, but it was open-file

when they say they accept 600 applicants, that includes people who were waitlisted and eventually pulled off and accepted as well. So that theoretical waitlist number of 200 is much, much higher

Are you positive it includes people pulled from the wait list? I have not heard that before. I guess I assumed it was people who were accepted right off the bat..
