New York COM (NYIT-COM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

hey guys, just felt like i should let you guys know my current situation..
so i called the admissions not too long ago, told the lady that im not at the address that the system has currently
she told me the letter was sent on the 4th. now from the look of things.. this doesnt seem to be a great sign since everyone is saying that they have been sending out waitlist batches..
i asked her if they have been sending out waitlist batches, she replied saying that they have been sending out waitlist and rejection letters
so i asked her if theyve been sending acceptances as well, and she said yes.
but who knows.. my friend will be checking my mail for me later on today
hopefully it will be good news
either way, i will try my best to post the results even if it is not what i wanted
keep your head up, wish you guys the best

had my friend check the mail. waitlisted..
interviewed 11/11

i wonder if ppl even get off the waitlist

Thanks for the optimism for everyone on the WaitList hoping to get in

I'm in the same boat. I'm just trying to give the most accurate info I can so everyone can make informed decisions. In my case this school was one of two interviews I had this cycle. So given the history of the school and its wait list policy I know that its time for plan B if I dont get into the other school I interviewed at or get any late interviews. I would hate for somebody to not be realistic and then regret it later in the name of "optimism".

Sorry if I came off rude or anything, I'm just a little bummed bc it really does seem like a rejection

Hopefully some good luck comes to all of you who are still waiting to hear back and/or are waitlisted! I just wanted to chime in on something that I did that I think helped my application. I sent in a Thank You letter to my interviewee a few days after my interview after emailing their admission's office for my interviewee's contact information. I basically just thanked them for their time / what I found memorable about the interview. I got an acceptance shortly after ~10days. This was also pretty late in the cycle...beginning of December (interview).

That said, something along line of that or a LOI definitely seems to be a big plus. Esp. to big schools which have to process so many applications- you want your name to stick in their mind.

Best of luck ^^

looks like everyone got waitlisted in the mail. i'm not happy to be in that bandwagon, but it's better than a rejection, considering i interviewed 9/24 and have waited this long.
The WAIT continues!

I did this as well..never got a response from my interviewer and got waitlosted

wait listed as well. as others have said, this entire process, not to mention the less than impressive interview day, turned me off from this school a while ago. at least now it's officially over. good luck to everyone else!

I found an interesting pattern. For those who interviewed on the same day as I, they received acceptances within 2 weeks. I asked someone from another date, and they told me the same. It seems like if they want you, you get an acceptance letter within that 2 week timeframe. Everyone else is waitlisted.

Do they send out rejections? Or literally everyone who interviews and doesn't get an acceptance is waitlisted?

It seems that way. I think they only do silent rejections if you don't get an interview. Some people have said admissions told them they sent out rejections...but I've never seen anyone post that and have also heard differently from admissions. So who knows. Seems like they like to cover their bases though so they likely only wait list people who interview instead of rejecting them.

Damn it. I just received my rejection letter. Interviewed Dec 02. 3.7/3.7 31 MCAT. I am actually shocked.

Rejection or waitlist? Your stats are pretty high for DO. Is it possible they thought you were doing DO as a backup for MD?

A rejection letter. No, I have a DO shadowing experience, so I don't think so.

Well this school has officially made me completely baffled about their entire process. This had been nothing like any other school at all! If someone like you with a 30+ MCAT and Healthcare experience can get rejected while someone with a 27 and no Healthcare experience can be accepted than I have no faith in them to be fair in their acceptences.

Who would that be? I am intrigued. This is not going according to plan at all. If schools think individuals with relatively high stats are using their schools as backup, especially those who have demonstrated interest in their program, then this process is more random than I imagined. Luckily for me, I received 2 MD II this morning, so I guess that's two good apples at the cost of one going sour.

You have no idea how badly I wanted to get into this program, and spent so much time preparing for the interview.

Add to that, those 2 II are the only ones I hold so far, and at this point, my only hope of getting into medical school for all my effort.

It's somewhere on the thread, likely around November. I just remember being shocked that someone with no Healthcare could get in. Sorry, I couldn't look through to find it.

Sorry to hear that if it makes you feel better I have identical stats almost and I got wait listed which seems to be a de facto rejection at this school.

Eh whatever, I am not blaming the medical school. Im sure it was a difficult decision to reject me.

I got wait listed with 3.4/3.6 and 31 MCAT... I interviewed early November and thought it went fairly well.. Oh well...

Something I was thinking about, do you guys think there is a chance the waitlisted people could get accepted at the new campus if you asked them to consider your app at both places?

Okay...quick question guys. I just got my secondary last week and I am trying to submit it...I downloaded the pdf and filled it out...but it says I cannot upload it because the file is too big. HELP. lol

I apologize for the double post but I just figured it out. I print screened everything, put it on a word doc and saved it as a .pdf. I hope this helps out anyone else who is having troubles.

I emailed them about it, they said your application is automatically considered for the Arkansas campus when you submitted to NYCOM on AACOMAS, which is probably why people have gotten II for the other campus when they only applied to NYCOM.

I was also accepted to the Arkansas campus and am a Louisiana resident. The interview was 30 minutes online and they emailed me with an acceptance a week after the interview.

Are you going to attend?

They sent me an acceptance packet via snail mail. Dated two days after the interview. Got it about a week or so later

I am not sure at the moment. I am currently out in California so haven't received the snail mail yet. I have obvious trepidation around attending a brand new satellite campus and would be anxious about attending a school I have never laid eyes on.

I declined my interview at Arkansas campus, the admissions process was a mess, lol so unorganized and absolutely crazy, if the main campus is like that, I cant even imagine going to the Arkansas campus... and I was accepted to 5 places, and wouldve chosen ACOM or CUSOM, before choosing Arkansas, no offense to anyone who is planning on going!

oh ok haha i haven't looked through all of this thread yet. Just saw it today. NYIT is a good school though is it not?

ita a decent school, but has a really high attrition rate, really expensive, and a really large class, when i interviwed, i got a bad vibe, they also took 4 months after the interviews to waitlist a lot of people on this forum!

They have a 94% comlex 1 pass rate last year. That's impressive. Considering the national average was less than that. They also had a 100% match rate last year. That's legit.

Where did you find their attrition numbers? What is considered high? What was their attrition rate last year?

The Arkansas campus is 115 I think. I don't think the time it takes for them to waitlist you matters. That doesn't make them a bad school.

I am not bashing the school at all, I interviewed there and I honestly didnt like, the administration didnt seem to care about you, the students also seemed not too like it, and i just got a bad vibe from it.. I heard that there was a 10% percent attrition rate, and class size is much around like 300 students. Arkansas is a new campus, and I felt like NYIT didnt have its act together, like other interviews i went too! Also they told us that they would take 4-6 weeks to give an answer, and they took 4 months, and were constantly saying things like "were short-staffed," clearly they werent very organized and it was very unprofessional of them. Not saying it is not a good school, im sure it is, but it was not for ME, and I am glad I was waitlisted, because it confirmed my decision of not going there!

Sorry didn't mean to seem argumentative. Im just as in the dark as you. 300 is large, but being from Arkansas I would just assume NY would have a ton more people in general. I'm glad you have other options. That makes it easy

Not at all, I am from New York and also wanted to leave from family for personal reasons, but if your from Arkansas, and wanna stay close, then it is definitely a good school. Congrats on your acceptance!!
