New York COM (NYIT-COM) Discussion Thread 2016-2017

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Some random facts thrown out included 800 interview spots for the 300ish spots, greater IS bias, around 70% post II acceptance (not sure how that can be true unless they send out twice as many acceptances as there are spots), they seem to have slight bias for higher stats, but also saw people saying bias for health care experience.

General rule of thumb regarding acceptances is that schools send out 2x - 2.5x the number of spots they to account for withdrawals and other movement. Pretty sure that applies to both MD and DO schools.

Wow NYIT send acceptances through email too? I thought was only through snail mail! Congrats on acceptance

Apparently. I was surprised to read it. But, I did call them yesterday to see if there was anything they could tell me if they had made a decision yet.

Also, they said they were sending out more acceptances this week when I called. I think they emailed us because of Thanksgiving disrupting the mail flow.

I guess that does make sense with everyone who withdrawals, 70% just seemed so high!!

My advice: First, don't stress!! It really is very laid back and conversational. Second, look over the questions on SDN that are posted, pretty much all the questions were on that list so you can think about possible answers. Also, look over their website and come up with some thoughtful questions for them, just make sure they aren't questions that you could find an answer to easily! Lastly, make sure to enjoy your day - you have great stats, and they obviously want to meet you!! 🙂
Hey what are the questions posted on SDN? Is there a link to them?

Gotta accepted here so i'm excited but I noticed tuition here is 55k, while most DO schools (DMU/KCUMB) are around 44k. In addition, I was looking at the total COA for NYCOM and according its website it is around 90k/yr.

This seems extremely expensive...is going to this school worth the money if cheaper options are available?

Hope those who interviewed earlier this month hear back soon

I interviewed here on September 20 and I haven't heard back yet… You guys think I should call or is that annoying? It has definitely been over two months at this point so

Same here, interviewed in the middle of September and haven't heard anything back. I don't know if I should assume it's a silent rejection. Iv called to ask, the person who answered was very nice but they weren't able to tell me anything. All they could say was "you should get an answer soon".

I got accepted to DMU and KCUMB, and you're right, the tuition is way cheaper compared to NYITCOM (44 K vs 55 K)
you could essentially get rent money in NYIT-COM's tuition if u went to either DMU or KCUMB

BUT, all 3 schools are great. I think it comes down to location preference (money & family & if you even like the school)
personally for me, i'll be putting down a deposit at NYIT-COM

will i be taking out at least $15,000 more in loans? yes
do i like DMU more? oh god, yes yes & yes
but its even more important to me to stay close (very close) to my family & eventually practice in and around NYC

so if location & family isn't your issue, go with the DMU or kcumb

Well then I think that implies that they don't do silent rejections so we should be able to hear either way? I guess I'll just continue to be patient…

do you guys think the longer it takes to hear back, the more likely its a no? 🙁
this is my top choice school and i'm reallyyy hoping to get in

Ya I'm starting to get nervous as well since people from around our interview date are hearing, but technically it's not 6 weeks until this Tuesday and they did say 6-8 weeks! Fingers crossed for us!!

Anyone interviewing with me this Friday? Also, does anyone know if this is an open file or closed file interview?

Good luck to all of those with upcoming interviews! Is anyone from late Sept/early Oct still waiting? It's only been 2 weeks since they've started releasing acceptances but I hope it doesn't slow down here

I'm late September waiting :/

For those of you that have booked a hotel the night before the interview, which hotel/inn did you end up booking with?

I stayed at the East Norwich Inn because it offered breakfast, free WiFi and was fairly cheap for the area, plus NYIT had it on their list. It was fine, but the rooms were really outdated. Easy drive to the campus.

Had a great time interviewing! Met some great people and the students were very helpful in answering our questions! To those with upcoming interviews, I know you will be nervous on the day of the interview, but you will realize that it's very relaxed and conversational 😉

There don't seem to be much action for mid to late September interviews. Maybe silent waitlist or rejection maybe 🙁

For those accepted, how long after the interview did you guys hear back?

"Supplement received" confirmation on Nov 18th. Hopefully something good comes back soon!

Accepted today via email, literally less than 24 hours after I put a $2000 nonrefundable deposit down to another school!! Haha really liked this school though, I think I may accept! Interviewed 11/25. Best of luck everyone!

(Fun fact- both interviews I had that I was accepted I was the last person to interview for that day... Not sure if it means anything but if anyone interviewed last hopefully you have good news coming soon!)

I was last for my interview session too!

Edit: of the morning session, because I realized we were there the same day haha so you must have been last for afternoon, but still might be a trend!

Silence here. OOS. Complete 8/20. GPA: 3.4 and MCAT: 509. Any insights?
