That's your own damn fault if you didn't make it through, no offense. Nobody should be certifying their rank list literally that late at the last second.

I know, thanks. based on the speed of the website, i was not alone.

you realize you can re-certify as many times as you want right? there's no reason not to certify early and then tinker away.

Every time you open your list after you certify, you have to re-certify your rank list. And, it doesn't save your last certified list. So, this doesn't really help people who are playing with their list at the last minute (even if they certified a long time ago). But.... this person was insane for waiting this long to submit a certified list.

I fully understood what I did. It was very risky, it worked. Moving on. Call me what you want.

This is not true. The system uses your last certified list at the time of the deadline.
Nope, 100% wrong. In fact it is so wrong the NRMP site explicitly states that is it not true:

"Can I make changes to my rank order list (ROL) after I certify it?
Yes, your rank order list can be modified or re-ordered any number of times until 9:00 p.m. eastern time on the Rank Order List Deadline, but no additions, deletions, or changes can be made to your rank order list after the deadline. If you change your certified ROL by adding, moving, or deleting a program, you must recertify it for it to be used in a Match. The R3® system does not save previous versions of your rank order list."

The bolding above is theirs.

You are stating something that should be logical, but as @CopaceticOne demonstrated this is not true. I mean, we are (hopefully) all adults now, so if you f*** up and don't get to participate in the match because you did something as stupid as wait until literally the last few seconds to certify your list, well it's your own fault. However, it would make a lot of sense to use the last certified ROL because I can think of unfortunate situations outside the hands of the applicant where this would make sense: like someone wanting to move a program up one slot the night the ROL is due and the power cuts out/they get blue screen of death etc... and can't log back in. That would be crazy!

But I think even if they don't save your previous versions (if you're like me you certified and re-certified multiple times) the most recently certified list would be used if you didn't recertify before deadline. The software is so sophisticated in that it's supposedly 100% accurate and finishes the matching process in 6 seconds, I would like to think they would have this safety feature of using your last certified rank list.

Either way I didn't want to test this out and thus finished ranking at noon that day and made my peace with my decision haha

I certified and verified 2 weeks ago. But I logged on, looked at my list and logged off. I didn't change anything. Is that ok or did I mess up ?

You can look at it all you want without messing anything up. You physically have to hit "edit" and then acknowledge that you're going back to "ranking" status before your certified list would go away.

Thank you URHere.... I panicked when I saw the post by blub1212 stating " every time you open your list after you certify you have to re-certify your rank list"... I opened my list, looked and logged off.

I read that over multiple times and the way I interpret it is that if you want that new rank list to be used you need to certify it. Not that it negates your previous certified list.

And yet the NRMP Twitter feed was very clear that you need to be in "CERTIFIED" status to be ready for the match. If you are editing, you are NOT in certified status.

As they kept saying: Certified, Paid, Verified then all set for the Match.

It's so funny how even after the rank lists are in people can still find something to be neurotic about :joyful:. Don't worry too much guys! Good luck in match :)
