I applied for the programs really close to their last date. On of the program that has already sent its invites responded on my request that my application is still under review and their spots have not been filled.
I understand most of the applicants proactively and timely submit their application.
I was just curious, if anyone submitted as late as I did and still got interviews?

Some programs I applied to just a few days before the deadline, but I still got interviews... It's hard to know when they start looking through the apps?? Constant guessing game 😱

As someone who went through this last year... this is correct. It’s not as intimidating as it sounds. Heaven forbid you don’t match, the email telling you so tells you what website to go to for post match (I don’t think there was an email telling you it officially opened you are just expected to check back to post match at 12:00 when it opens.) it does in fact exist for ortho, just slim pickings... as stated above, last year was 4 spots at Pitt and 8 at Georgia, that was it

I'm curious to see how many of the applicants that don't match apply for a post match position at Georgia. In all the years that Georgia has been match, they've always had a lot of open seats. Do a lot of applicants try to get a spot there so they don't have to reapply the following year, or do they just reapply given the cost and the iffy reputation (the program was founded by Gasper Lazzara, who was heavily involved in OCA/OEC programs),

I would say it’s important to attend the socials. At many schools the residents have a big say in who gets accepted. The people who they get to know or who stick out in their mind the most will most likely be the ones who attended the social.

I didn't attend the social at the ortho program that I matched with due to travel plans for another interview and yet I matched there. It's much more important to really prepare and perform well for your interviews than try to attend every social.

I was actually able to contact the respective programs directly and switch my dates that way. I would recommend contacting the schools first before trying to find a person to switch with- they might have openings for dates/times you are looking for! Hope that helps 🙂.

i think if you contact the school directly, they do reschedule the interview. I did that and got my interview rescheduled. you wont have to depend on someone to switch dates with you.
