Had to turn down a conflicting school with interview dates.

I think over the next week or two, when most interviews come out, people will start to see random emails come through even if the program "already released interviews." People will have conflicts and unable to make all interviews etc. Point is, don't lose hope and just give it time! Good luck everyone.

If a program rejects you do they tell you or is everyone just ghosting people now? I keep hearing of people getting interviews but I've heard nothing. Not sure if these programs keep sending out invites on a rolling basis or if it's a one and done invite.

Most programs do one and done invites unless they need to pull people off the waitlist for interviews (in the case if someone declines an interview offer). Very few programs do rolling invites since most programs only interview 30-40 people (other than the programs with a very high number of residents per class)

And yes, most programs will ghost you nowadays. I remember one program sent me a rejection letter via email 1 week before I was about to start my ortho residency and that was one of the only programs that actually sent me a rejection email.

This SDN thread keeping track of which interviews have been sent out is the best way to determine whether you’ve been “rejected” from a program or not since most programs only send one round of interviews.

Hi current resident here! Just wanted to pop in and say please please don’t be discouraged if you haven’t received an interview yet. I know it’s hard to not compare with others on SDN, but it’s still very early in the cycle. Many programs (including my own) haven’t even finished reviewing apps yet. I considered retaking the GRE but I was 9 months pregnant and focusing was a challenge. I had my daughter two days after I took the test.

Thoughts from those who have gotten interviews, or current residents- is it really my GRE holding me back or am I just not high enough in class rank/gpa too?

I know my recommendation letters were quality

My guess is that, since everyone applying to ortho has similarly high class ranks/GPAs, you need strong research and or significant involvement in other extracurricular activities to make you stand out and be chosen for an interview.

To counter this, I was just outside the top 33% of my class (3.69 GPA) with 90-98 percentile on all GRE sections, no work experience, no research experience, and several leadership roles and I received 5 interviews, matched to a 2 year program. However, I also applied widely (30 programs).

The entire process is a crapshoot and no one really knows exactly what programs are looking for when they select for interviews. The best advice is to just apply widely and don’t be picky about location. Shoot for the 2 year programs if possible

Is it weird to email a program after theyve sent invites and question the reason for not getting an interview?

Not super weird, I have done this before. You will likely get a generic answer about how that it is a competitive process and that there are many qualified applicants. At best, they might cite their reason why you didn't get an interview but nothing you could change at this point.
Also, sometimes they will just ignore your email too especially during this busy season. (Also has happened to me)

I did this last year with my alma mater. I just asked if it would be possible to set up a meeting and go over how I can strengthen my application. Part of the reason I wanted a meeting over an email was so they could put a face to an application. Made some improvements this year and got waitlisted for an Interview instead of flat out rejected from there so I guess that's a step up, haha.
