I am planning on applying to osteopathic along with allopathic schools. My current residency is in Oklahoma; however, I grew up in Washington and all of my family resides back west (AZ, CA, ID and WA)

I am wondering as to how good Oklahoma State's program is and how well they place residents. How is it compared to AZCOM or Touro?

Any insights or pros vs. cons would be great.

Check with DrMom....she's an alumni. (She's awesome, too!) Personally, OSU-COM is my first choice. If you haven't had a chance to visit the school, please do. They have an open house coming up April 6th (Med-Xtravaganza). It's a great way to get acquainted with the school, meet current students, profs, etc. Visit their website www.osu-med.com.

I got accepted to both TUCOM-Nevada and Oklahoma State. I would say that Oklahoma is by far the better school. The people at TUCOM-NV are nice but the school isn't as well established and the campus can't even compare to OSU. If you have pretty competitive scores (GPA and MCAT) I'd go with OSU because you'd save almost 20,000 a year in tuition. When I talked to the lady at OSU she told me that 60% of their students match with their first choice in residency programs. That's pretty good I'd say.

I can't speak for AZCOM. I turned down their interview but the Dr. that wrote my LOR's went there and loved it.

TUCOM-CA isn't the best location from what I've heard.

Check out the interview feedback on this website. It gives good perspectives of how the schools are perceived overall by students.

If you search this forum using OSU-COM you will find alot of information about the school. A few of the students have posted information about the campus and rotations/residency. I suggest you search and read some of the threads and post back if you have any more questions.

*This will be biased as I am currently a student there.

I believe OSU will prepare you as well or better than almost any other medical school DO or MD. The environment is really good and the students all want to be there and want to help you out. We have some amazing faculty(I.E. Goljan) and our residency programs are growing quickly and keep getting better.

As far as the match goes every single person in last years class matched one of their top 3 choices. That is pretty amazing in my opinion. Here are the match numbers for this year... But only the Osteopathic match has finished so only about 45% of our students are accounted for here.

42 students matched with the following programs:

Traditional Rotating 6
Emergency Medicine 6
Internal Medicine 5
Pediatrics 3
Family Practice 10
Diagnostic Radiation 1
Orthopedic Surgery 2
Oto-Facial Plastic Surgery 1
OB-GYN 2
General Surgery 3
Anesthesiology 1
Opthalmology 1
Military 1

Hope this helps.
