Pacific Northwest University (PNWU-COM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The person I spoke with today said they normally send out around 60-65 phone calls and accept around 50 off the waitlist, and expect it to be about the same this year. Apparently 15 people on the waitlist had already accepted offers at other schools.
Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for obtaining this info for us!! You are an angel!

Does Northern California count as that?
Unfortunately not. Although, I'm from northern California and always thought it was. According to their website it's just Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska

I called a few days ago and was told that this year they did not expect to pull as many people off the waitlist as in years past. This year the admission committee pulled people from the waitlist throughout the year (after each interview) instead of waiting to rank them at the end of the admissions cycle.

They did confirm that a few people had been accepted but did not say how many.

So who should I believe...

I emailed someone in admissions and was told they don't expect this year to be any different than previous years, in regards to number of offers. But it is frustrating that we keep getting conflicting information

Did anyone ask about waitlist ranking updates by chance? I would think they would be moving other people into the top 30.

Are they actively moving people into new top "x" as people move out of the current top? I thought they would just exhaust the top 30 then go by some secret ranking...

I was told if they go through the first top 30, they will re-rank the next 30. They were unable to tell me how far into the current top 30 they are.

Unfortunately for those who are still in limbo on the waitlist, the staff is really busy organizing online forms, approving required materials, and setting up modules for the already accepted entering class.. The only thing you can do is wait. PNWU will definitely contact you at some point. The good news about reapplying (if you have to) is that AACOM saves your previous application and most of the materials associated with it. The bad news is that you have to pay fees again. With that being said, if you wait to hear from PNWU for this year and don't submit your application again until July for the c/o 2021 that is okay.

I did not get my secondary until the end of July. The interview offer was sent to me the beginning of September (and I interviewed on the first available spot in October, so this is as fast as you can do it). It is a long application season.

The point being that it's tempting and understandable to try to find out information as quickly as possible so you can move on if need be. However, you are NOT falling behind if you have to resubmit your application in July.

I wish all of you good luck and PLEASE don't give up. This school is very welcoming, so if they're coming across as callus it is not intentional.

If anyone has any PNWU-specific questions feel free to ask 🙂

Is it true they dig about 50-60 people per year on the waitlist?

There have been students (last year) who received the status of "top 30 WL" in June who were then accepted the final week in June/early July. They were notified as they moved up (ex: "Top 10 WL") This year, the administration has accepted WL applicants throughout the cycle so the 50-60 number is probably accurate. This includes the entire cycle as well as those who were recently updated with Top 30 WL. Keep in mind that about 1/2 of those 50-60 spots (possibly more) have already been taken throughout the year.

**Disclosure** This is my opinion - I am not in direct communication with the admission department ** 😉

For those of us not in top 30 I spoke with Admissions today. They said they have not had to rank past the top 30 position yet so the committee hasn't met recently. They recommended I apply early for the next application cycle because I am not currently ranked. So while I'm still going to keep my fingers crossed for this round, I'll be submitting my next cycle application tomorrow to be safe.

Great plan! I belong to the ranked list, but I am also prepared to launch into a post bacc year just in case.. We do not have control over the admissions process, but we can have some semblance of control by having a plan B, C or even D... Good luck to all!

We know quite a bit. Many of us have science degrees and others have humanities and social science degrees. Heck, some of us have graduate degrees. As a whole I would bet that we know a great deal.
Lol- that is not what I meant! 🙂. I meant how much movement has there been on the waitlist- do we know? 🙂

yeah. but the new cycle isn't as informative as the previous cycles because some of you guys have actually gotten accepted...

So are you wanting all the 300 accepted users here to post their stats and you can pick the lowest one? Apart from that the best answer you'll get is a super generalized answer from someone.

Schools pick people with stats all over the board.

It has been 3 weeks since I heard anything... Today is the deadline to submit matriculation requirements.. Hopefully there is movement soon...

I only know this for PNWU. It says on their new student page on their website: "July 1st, all pre-matriculation docs are due"

July 1st was the day everything was due. However, if you get admitted off the waitlist, I'm sure the deadlines are different for those individuals. I doubt the list will move much at this point in the cycle though.

Nah. From last year's thread and a current student I spoke to at the interview day, they can and have accepted off the waitlist a week before class.

There has been considerable movement at OHSU.. Hopefully this creates a domino effect on MD/DO schools in the region

It is getting very very stressful.. Have not heard a squeek from PNWU..

I'm sure the class is full at this point. You're probably at a disadvantage if you haven't reapplied already.

I emailed Hope yesterday. They are still working through the top 30 and are far from pulling them all in for slots at this present time, but says there's still a chance they will get pulled. Further ranking is still possible. Reapplying is good too, but don't give up all hope just yet. In the last couple of years, much of the movement has happened in mid to late July, as people tend to hold on to their acceptances as long as possible until they know for sure they will not be attending.

Thank you for this.. Does give me a lot of assurance.. I reapplied because i do have a post bacc with guaranteed interview/acceptance waiting for me if PNWU does not offer me a seat. I guess at this time we just need to be patient and wait it out.. Good luck all!
