just want everyone who falls in this category to know that there is a special circle in hell reserved for all of you 🙂 lol

I am deciding between SUNY Upstate and Albany Medical Center. Today is essentially decision day for me. My heart is in Albany (I am local) but the difference financially seems too great to justify. Is anyone in the same boat? Does anyone have any input regarding either school or input on the city of Syracuse in general?

Thanks

For me personally the financial difference would need to be more than 20K per year to go to a place "where my heart was not" as you have put it. If the financial difference is not more than that then just go to the place where you want to go. You are going to be able to repay any loans as a doctor so you might as well make the road to your career as enjoyable as possible. It's a long road so you want to be somewhere that you feel comfortable. just my 2 cents. good luck!👍

I'm in a similar situation in that I'm deciding between a local school (QU) that would be vastly cheaper and a school with an established reputation that is far away and more expensive (Tulane). Decisions, decisions. QU is brand new and doesn't have a reputation. Despite this risk there are plenty of benefits so I'm leaning towards QU. Best advice I can give is ask yourself what is the main thing you want to get out of your medical school education. Then make a pros/cons list with the schools you're deciding between and determine which school will help you reach that objective based on that list. The important thing to note is that not each pro and con should be rated 1:1 in terms of quality. For instance school A may be 100k cheaper and school B may be in a great city, but your goal is to graduate medical school with as little debt as possible, in which case school A's economical benefit should be weighed more heavily than school B's location. Its not about which school has more pros and least cons, but which school can offer you the most support in reaching your goals for a medical school education.

Is there a time of day we have to have decided by? End of the business day, 5PM sort of thing?

Yes, I would definitely notify the school no later than 3PM tomorrow. I would do it today if possible.

One of the schools I'm about to turn down just emailed asking me for a transcript. Should I still send the transcript? lol

I would choose SUNY Upstate and save all of the MONEY for the same education. Both school have a similar prestige. Come out of school with less debt!

I withdrew from all my other acceptances long ago. Just waiting for May 15 to pass to hopefully hear back from a certain school *ahem*. Fiji knows what I'm talking about. 😉

Good luck for all of us still waiting to get off a waiting-list 😀
