***The Official Midwestern-Arizona Class of 2024 Interview/Acceptance Thread***

Invited for interview July 12
only date available when I got on the portal was 10/15, so just interviewed recently
This was my first invite, but 3rd interview
Is now absolutely my top pick of school!
stats ?

How was the interview and what made you love the school so much? Any tips for the day?
The actual interview was the last part of the day. took about 30 minutes. Its a panel of 2 faculty and a D2. There were a lot of scenario questions, but nothing off the wall. They don't ask questions to put you in a lose/lose situation; my impression was that they just want to see where your values and priorities are. That being said, I wouldn't waste any time trying to rehearse your answers to the random questions you can find online and they'll say the same thing to you when you get there. Like I said, they aren't hard questions. They're really just trying to see who you are and give you an opportunity to represent yourself as much and as best as you can.
This was honestly my favorite interview so far. A lot of people want a "conversational" interview which is cool, but I personally find it difficult to show why I'm a good candidate and not just a good person in those situations. So I really appreciated the format of it.
But besides the interview, I just really got a genuine feeling from everyone we met that they all really care about each other, faculty and students. The facilities are fantastic, they are super up to date on technology and are really preparing their students to be ahead of the game when they finish school. They are committed to what they are doing there and to making their students the best dentists, and they do this without hating on other programs, and without arrogance or pretense. Just a super great and genuine place.

Really loved it here.
If you don't mind me asking, how was the style of interview? Was it an MMI style or just a conversation towards the end?

Im not sure what MMI means, but it definitely wasn't conversational. They are very adamant about that. Of course, they will engage with you somewhat; it isn't just a constant pelting with questions. But they do keep them coming. You can ask questions of them at the end, but they aren't looking to just sit and chat. Its not stressful though. They are attentive; they react to what you're saying, but none of my questions ever turned into a conversation. They ask, you answer, they move on to the next question.

For those that interviewed, what time did the interview end? Trying to decide when to take the flight back home.

To everyone!
I am using my daughter account here to post some information about the school. My daughter got in the class of 2023 and she just recently finished the very first quarter and home for 3 weeks thanksgiving break. I've came to visit her once a month and i can tell you how great of this school, we're paying $700 rent a month for her to stay in the spaces studio in campus only take 3 or 4 mins walk to most of the classes, grocery shopping right around the corner pretty much what you needed for daily living are within reach very convenience.
For the program, my daughter she doesn't want to go into specialist, so she got excepted USC, Western U, UCLA, UCSF and PoP event though we are Californian, plus school in California are over rated and living condition are horrible and expensive living.
For the curriculum this school is excellent, implant procedures is included (which my daughter wanted as general dentist). Students here and faculties very helpful and they are really want everyone well prepared when they are done, it's hard work she has test twice a week and so many sleepless night and group studies but faculties are really do helping student. Become as general dentist this school offered once you guaduated you will learn every thing and with all bells and whistle to jump right out there and earn the living and pay student debs. She said she might go into become ortho but that later on

As a parent i am grateful that my daughter choose this school over those over rated in California, very happy and feel safe for my daughter attend this school. if some of you get excepted here go for it. It's top notch school

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I remember them saying near the start of the interview day that we will all know if we are accepted, waitlisted, or neither on decision day?

I feel like I remember hearing that too, or something along those lines

I believe the decision will show up in the AADSAS portal tomorrow morning - at least that is what I remember from the interview day. Does anyone know if they will be calling at midnight like some other schools? (I'm in Midwest so I'm on EST)

Last year, it was the MWU portal (not AADSAS) that updated around 8:03am MST. Applicants who would receive a phone call later that day could see their acceptance checklist was updated.

What gets added to the accepted checklist?

If it says accepted student checklist does that mean i'm accepted?

My status just got updated to "Offer Made" on AADSAS, but I have yet to receive a phone call. Anybody else in my shoes?

I called them and asked if I see the "accepted student checklist am I accepted" and they said yes. They're calling, but they havent gotten to everyone. So if you see on the MWU portal that you have a checklist under that section then you're good.

Hi, did you receive a phone call? I have yet to receive one. I don't know if I should call tomorrow perhaps?

From what I was told in my call, they have one of your interviewers call you, and they have around 8-10 people to call each. It's possible those that haven't gotten a call just had an interviewer that wasn't there today.

My portal applicant checklist is changed. It shows "required prerequisite" in applicant checklist, not in the accepted checklist!
Does anyone have the same situation?
Same! No accepted checklist in sight, but only applicant checklist. 🙁 May be a sign of a waitlist. Trying to stay positive!

Same here! I've checked for updates way too many times in the past 24 hours. I'm hoping they will continue calling and updating the portal today. Even if we aren't accepted it would be nice to see our status change to waitlisted or rejected.

What is the meaning of "required prerequisite" in applicant checklist? Is it waitlist?
I believe it's just a list of the requirements that you've completed or have yet to complete. It's not indicative of an acceptance or waitlist per say. You'll know if it's an acceptance if there's a spot on the Midwestern portal for you to make the deposit. Good luck!

Currently a D1 here, congrats on those accepted and good luck to the rest! Zero regrets about choosing this school over others. Feel free to ask me any questions!
What makes going to this school worth the price? I’m heavily considering this school, or UNLV. It would be ~$150,000 price difference between the schools. I would love your input!

There were a few key factors for why I ended up choosing this school - even with the cost difference.

The experience you're getting at Midwestern is unrivalled. You're not competing with specialty programs for interesting cases, you're not struggling to find patients. There's an abundance of opportunity and it's all dependent on what you choose to focus on. For example, you might place a couple implants by the time you graduate, or maybe you really like them and do closer to 20 or 30.

The faculty and atmosphere was another huge factor. The faculty never stop trying to help us, and just from the interview I knew I was walking into a family. They all want us to succeed - and that mentality extends into my classmates as well. We all share notes and the focus isn't competing for the top 10%, it's on learning the material and becoming better dentists.

The technology we're learning to use here is also a big plus if you plan on utilizing it in your career. From day 1 we started working hands on. We spend every Monday and Friday doing stuff in the sim lab and it's open outside of our class hours for anyone that wants to really improve their skills, but the time we're slotted for during the week is plenty to get by. They've also shaved down a lot of fluff material into about a fourth of what I hear it used to be in order to keep up with the new boards. The administration is actively listening to our feedback and working to make sure we have what we need and that our curriculum is up to date and applicable.

At the end of the day, I couldn't find any downside besides the cost of attendance and I've loved every moment of being here so far. Hope this helps!

Yes that helps a lot, thank you! One more question. Do you think the extra business classes give you guys a real advantage to be more successful in private practice?

For those accepted, did you receive an email about downloading and utilizing the Schools App? I took a look at it but it needs a school email to be verified but I believe we haven't received our own email yet?

So far we've had 1 course on finance and it's been a lot of useful information, but we haven't done too much for it quite yet. We are going to take the classes more geared toward business in our 2nd and 4th years. Overall I would say that it does, because they're going to give us everything we need to know but I am not too familiar with other schools' policies on business courses to compare ours to.

What others schools were you accepted to and why did you pick this one over there others? I am very fortunate to have options and I don't know how to decide, but this is my tentative number one.

Does anyone know when orientation and the start of school would be? I can't find that info anywhere in their portal.

Yes, once you pay your deposit, you receive a school email address. Alternatively, you can find your email address by clicking on the tab labeled "my info" under the second column: MWU Login Info, click login info. Your email address will be shown. It will take about 24 hours for the MWU Office 365 link to show up in your home page of the portal. Once it does, you can click on it and set up your email. Hope this helps! 🙂

You can find the tentative calendar in the home page of the portal under academic calendars. It will take you to the school website: Academic Calendar - click on Glendale Campus. Then under: Upcoming Calendars, click on Glendale Academic Calendar 2020-2021 (Tentative).

Currently, our orientation will be held on August 24-26th and our Fall Quarter 2020 classes will begin on August 31st. Hope this helps! 🙂

Has anyone who interviewed and hasn't received an update concerning their status called the admissions office? Any idea when we will find out if we were waitlisted or rejected?
