Not to jump in here before the big day tomorrow. I just got the second look letter today. Who all is thinking about going to second look on april 10th at Tucson? Should be good times.

I would definitely go to the second look day in April, though I'm surprised they sent them out already. Did anyone else get one?

Oh, I am so nervous for tomorrow! And I work nights, so I'll be up all night thinking about it and waiting. Good luck getting some sleep, everyone.

I'm attempting to fly in for the April 10th 2nd look. I feel as if more kids will be around that day. May 2nd is near UA finals yeah?

By the way, because no one said it,

TARA - at Phoenix - is SO fine.

I just got the UA PHX waitlist email. (1am)
It caught me off guard, it came 7 hours early. Oh well. Ill take it.

The mad dash to check my email yielded no new messages, much less from the admissions office. Congrats!

U of A PHX waitlist this morning 🙄. Unfortunately, they did not mention a rank. Anyone else get a rank?

Same with me.... Third time re-applicant, tried to preach the whole stay in Arizona thing, I don't think seem to be impressed by that. About 55% leave the state regardless, you would think they would be more loyal to the ones who are being loyal to the U. I applied only to the U this time. sigh. (However, thank goodness I applied to Midwestern University this year, and secured a DO spot there, but.. sigh nonetheless)

Good job going to Midwestern (beautiful campus!), . . . U of A likes to think of themselves as "Arizona's medical school", when in reality U of A is and will play second fiddle to the D.O. and naturopathic schools in Phoenix for the forseable future. U of A does feel like they are the big kid on the block in AZ but recently a deal between U of A and major community hospital in Phoenix fell through because the U of A was demanding too much just to be affiliated with the U of A name. So don't fell too bad if "Arizona's Medical School" doesn't select you, one of the students who gave me a tour flat out told us that she was mainly interested in U of A medical school because of lower tuition and basically didn't really want to practice in AZ, but said she talked it up a lot during her interview, so there a lot of students probably at U of A med that were admitted under questionable circumstances

I think the trend is that more and more U of A med students don't choose to residencies in AZ, i.e. more US medical school seniors are attracted to applying to competitive residencies like radiology, opthalmology, and high powered IM residencies of which there aren't any in AZ, so for all those waiting on U of A notices I wouldn't be discouraged as U of A isn't the only game in AZ.

Apparently, you have to call the Phx campus to get your idea of rank.

Here we go...five more minutes...til my final rejection

The waitlist will come out first from 8:00 - 8:30 ish.. then our final rejection comes after that.. so if nothing by like 8:25, SHUT YOUR COMPUTER OFF GO TO BED ! 😛

I would like to tell all of you who are accepted into this years med class.. I think you all should defer admissions for one year, go see the world, go sight seeing.. enjoy life before you hit a hard road ahead of you. LOL.. plz for rank 74 ? 😛

i'm going to the second look. i'm excited to meet everyone, I only personally know one other person that got in. Also, good luck to everyone today!

Hey guys,

New to this stuff but it seems really helpful. Just got e-mail from Tucson. I am waitlisted, ranked #25. No e-mail from Phx yet.

It says in the e-mail that there have been anywhere from 18-50 ppl taken off the waitlist. Let's hope it's closer to 50 this year.

Good luck to everyone!

Just spoke with Phx, they said the waitlist for Phx will fully be out by Noon today including final decision.

Hey guys slightly off topic but i figure all of you may have some input on this. How did the tuscon campus compare to the phx campus compared to AZ Midwestern. I've seen the phx and Midwestern but never the tuscon campus and I'm just wondering what everyone thought of it.

WHAT??? Why are you asking that? Can't you see we're all in crisis mode!!!!

According to Michelle at the UA PHX office: "It is against our policy to tell the students their rank. All I can tell you is go ahead and matriculate at other schools and if you are called up you will be notified"

gayyyyyyy

Good luck everyone. I have a couple of friends out here that got bad news this morning - hopefully all of you do way better.

Hahahah exactly! All the people who have the answer to this question are on the forums right now... Congrats on the waitlist, its better than a rejection!

I gotta say though, knowing that I have to wait an entire year from now to find out what all of you are finding out today isn't that enticing.

I am wait-listed at Tucson #24!!!

Do you think I have a chance of getting in this year?!?!?!?!

Please let me know your opinions. Thanks!!

rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeejected from tuscon, no word from phoenix but i cant imagine its gonna be anything good. Drinking at 930 doesnt make me an alcoholic right? Special circumstances??

Based on the fact they let over 50 off the waitlist in last year, your probably gonna make it! Also they will have additional people this year who may choose the phx campus over tucson so the waitlist people accepted may go up.

Would you mind sharing your stats? You can PM if you want...

Rank 24 totally has a chance! 50's and up is the concern... Small light at the end of the big dark tunnel.

Hey everyone-
So, I'm 51 on the Tucson wait list and usually the first 50 get in. But, I have a bit of a situation b/c I can achieve Texas residency for this next application year and Texas has better and more schools to choose from. I was planning on staying in Texas this summer, starting an MPH and switching residency but I'd love to go back to AZ and go to med school there if I'm accepted. Any suggestions? Think I'll get in being 51? I feel like I'm in purgatory!

They hit 54 last year without this dual admissions thing they have going on this year. Essentially you have people holding acceptances to both Phx and Tucson, and generally, I suspect those will either go elsewhere or take the Phx campus. You only get both if you mention Phx as your #1 choice (and Phx adcom accepts you). Therefore, that will account for additional movement not seen in last years waitlist movement. Therefore, I think there is a decent chance of you getting in, but only GOD knows. 🙂

I hope it freaking goes to 74 where I am sitting at.. so as a a #74, I would recommend GO TO TEXAS FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! 😛

On a side note, I have heard many great things about the Texas med schools and they pride there residents.. 🙂

"Dear 2008 University of Arizona College of Medicine Applicant:

The Admissions Committee has now completed its review of all applicants to the College of Medicine Tucson Campus. It is our sincere regret that we are not able to offer you a position for our next entering class, nor were you placed on the Alternate List. I know you are disappointed in this news, as I am well aware of the energy and emotion invested in the entire admissions process."

I want a refund.

has anyone heard anything from phx? I ranked them #2, but I thought they'd at least have the decency to send me a rejection email! 😛

final decisions will be sent out at Noon. I know some people heard as early as 1am, etc...

elderjack, you were accepted to Wake Forest and didn't even get waitlisted at UA??!! I'm sorry. Do you think they don't like nontrads or what is the deal?

Good luck with your move and you will be a stellar medical student (and doctor) wherever you end up.

Ironically this exact thing happened with my roommate's brother 2 cycles ago. Accepted to wake and nothing from U of A....

Yeah, not all of the Texas schools are great but the one in glaveston has great infectious disease research, which I'm really interested in (hence my screen name). Baylor is excellent too. Also, I did my undergrad in TX and if you're a TX resident, you need to have a pretty ****ty application if you don't get in. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for AZ and I'll move back as soon as I hear I got accepted! I called the Tucson office and they said they have already started taking people on the waitlist so maybe you'll get in #74😀

If it's sitting at #73, you better be going to Texas!

Thanks! You will be too!

Your guess is as good as mine. It is probably because I speak Russian and German rather than Spanish...or likely because they discriminate against Iraq-Afghanistan War Veterans...yeah...that is it. Afraid I might develop PTSD while in the cadaver lab that they wouldn’t show us on our interview tour. (j/k)

But in reality, they likely saw right through me. I never really wanted to go to the UofA, but felt it was my best chance at getting in to medical school. Luckily I was wrong…and they were right. Maybe the system really works.

;-)

Cheers!!!

"Thank you for your interest in The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, in partnership with Arizona State University. We have been fortunate to attract a large number of highly qualified candidates for our limited number of seats this year. In this regard, I sincerely regret to inform you that we are unable to extend an admissions offer to you for our next class."

And there you have it kids, the final word from Phoenix to me.

Anyone not yet hear from phx. Are they going to get to everyone today?
