Haha, ehazing is the least we could ask for. It's only going to get more rough from here on out so better develop that thick skin you'll need for rotations.

fergustsi, have you decided on where you will rotate or has TCOM announced your assignments for 3rd year? It think it's coming up so I was just curious.

I sent in my preferences of order, but you dont get to choose where to rotate for third year clerkships. the most you can do is request houston rotations or dfw metroplex. we wont find out where we are rotating until march unfortunately. my order was omm/PCP/psych, peds/obgyn, fam med/internal/surg.
Thats the most you can pick, the order of the three groups, but the actual order of the rotations within the groups is up for their discretion.

rotations begin in late june. boards june 12th and 15th.

As far as thick skin, youre going to need it a lot sooner than rotations. when youre having a cil and the assistant dean basically states that what you said is down right stupid, youre going to have to let it bounce off.

My two favorite quotes from him

"Usually when we're doing a DDx we try to think of things it could ACTUALLY be."

"Why don't we just go ahead and add alien abduction to the list."

LOL, mean joke, I'm flying to Dallas on Saturday to see my girlfriend hopefully bringing good news. TCOM not getting their list in would really hamper those plans.

note to self: continue not trusting upperclassmen.

its all fun and games dr rude. youre going to have to trust your upperclassmen when you want to ask them if this professor tends to ask the nitty gritty specifics or if they are more of a general idea kinda prof. also, theyll be selling a study guide cd handed down from class to class so youll have to trust them there too. 😛

Youre going to see that we're pretty much family here. i know it sounds cheesy but it really is that way. we all look out for each other.

Ha. I'm already getting flashbacks to college when my coach reminded me of how worthless I was. Looking forward to more of the same!:xf: But honestly, it forces you to be prepared and think quickly.

Probably because I've never gone through a comparative experience, the first thing that came to mind after reading this was the movie Dodgeball and the training the underdogs went through.

It warms my heart knowing the next several years will be filled with dodging thrown wrenches from doctors, patients, upperclassmen, and maybe even a few classmates... 😉

Funny! Hey, maybe we can start an IM dodgeball team to help release our frustrations!

Can you request to rotate in Austin? I've seen some TCOM students there among the UTMB ones.

Yeah, I completely forgot about the clinical education classes. It's going to be rough but I'm glad they start you early before the real pain comes.

If you can dodge a wrench, you can diagnose secondary adrenal insufficiency.

I honestly have no idea as to whether or not you can rotate in austin. i dont think you can do core clerkships there (cause most students are from texas and theyd probably request there). but im sure you can do electives there, which is what you may have seen. im planning on miami and california electives if i can. i dont really want to practice in texas, i dont think, so i have to check out other options before the match.

What does everyone have planned for friday evening/night??

LOTS and LOTS of stress eating, and I'll probably have a bad case of cold sweating :scared: waiting for the match. I will also probably be lurking around here for the first notice of matches being posted.

I would just like to point out that historically match day was Valentine's Day...so you are already getting two weeks reprieve 🙂 Also, it is the official midnight of the date...so you wait all day Jan. 31, clock strikes midnight and the calendar moves to Feb.1, hit your refresh button until you get an answer...or which ever day they have decided to give you your match (please note...I mean midnight central time; i.e 1am eastern, etc.).

They bumped it up two more days since the 1st was on a Sunday. I guess that makes us that much more fortunate? 😉

* 1/27/09: The results of the match will be available at 11:59 pm (central time) on Friday, January 30th.

This is the worst part of the wait because I can see the light at the end of the tunnel but am moving so slowly towards it. Time to find things to keep me busy.

For those who had prematched to TCOM, did your status change from accepted to Under Review?

Has anyone's status changed by any chance. I am still under review. Good luck to everyone.

I had a friend that prematched at TCOM back in early Dec. and they did change their messages to accepted.

Yeah, mine has too, go figure. I guess that is another piece of circumstantial evidence about the match results tomorrow...

Oh, and about the IM Dodgeball thing...I'd only join up if there are people more noobish than me in it, so I can get a few good throws in. If we wanted to go the extra (thousand) mile(s), we could also encourage other schools to start up their own teams and then battle to the death! Or at least provide a new category for ranking med school.

Sounds crazy, but I guess for someone who's done a marathon has to look for other challenges. 😎

I am envious of you in-staters at least you know exactly when you find out.....I still have no idea :scared:

I pre-matched at TCOM and my status on the TCOM status page has also gone from Accepted to Under Review, but I have TCOM ranked ahead of the other schools I interviewed at, so there's no doubt about where I'll match. Or at least there had better not be...

ahh im nervous... i hate being in the eastern time zone, that extra hour is gonna suck!

aw that does suck. where exactly are you two? well at least it'll be a friday night and you won't have to worry about waking up early saturday (assumption). i'm feeling exhausted right now and probably wouldn't even be able to stay up if the match were tonight. 😴

Ha. I'm a complete *****. I forgot to stress how dominant I was in IM athletics in my PS and interviews. And my trash talking is unparalleled. I'm wearing spandex and a headband to class everyday next year. That is one med school ranking category that my school is going to top the charts! Who's coming with me?

I'm tired too, but I'd stay up if the match was tonight!

Is everyone going to stay up and check tomorrow or is anybody going to wait till saturday morning?

Maybe they will give us a treat a release them a little earlier than 11:59...

i definitely want to stay up tomorrow night for the results, but that all depends on how much sleep i get tonight hehe. i kind of think they'll post slightly earlier than 11:59pm....i think last year's match they released it ~10 minutes early...but my tired brain could just be making things up. maybe they'll start feeling sorry for us and post it during the daytime :xf:

im chillaxin in florida, im hopin for an early release!

I'm hoping for much earlier than 10 minutes early. haha

Hoping for good news for all of us! 🙂 👍

Wow, so much activity. Getting exciting

I'll definitely be up, but that's because I'm apparently on Tokyo time and can't sleep before 11pm even if I wanted to or took too many Nyquils.

I'm loving all this activity too! 😍

I don't think I'll be able to sleep today because of the anticipation, or tomorrow because all the excitement. only one more daaaaaay!!

haha so i think TMDSAS got tired of all the questions or they just felt nice, but now on the Match Preferences page it says it will be posted January 30, 2009 11:59pm.

Lol ok I am confused are we checking TMDSAS in like 40 mins, or is this happening tommorow night in 24 hours. My pre-med advisor sent a confusing email.

i'm pretty sure the match info comes out tomo but I would be stoked if it came out tonight.

Wow, I thought i was an exception here because I went to college out of state on the east coast but kept my in state status. Apparently there are a few of us.

Yeah, I mean, you think after years of doing this, they would just put up an announcement anyway. It could've saved them a couple hundred phone calls asking the same thing over and over. Maybe this is a lesson learned.

It's tomorrow night. Check the status page on TMDSAS, but don't be alarmed with the flashing red notice saying that The deadline to choose your offers has passed. It's saying that for everyone at least from what the RoT thread says.

one day more, another day another destiny...

good luck everyone

As an OOS'er, I didn't have to do anything with the match stuff, did I?! Or I just wait to hear from TCOM themselves?

As an OOS'er, I didn't have to do anything with the match stuff, did I?! Or I just wait to hear from TCOM themselves?

I emailed TCOM the other day and I didn't get great news. I am an OOS'er and I interviewed right before Thanksgiving. I was told by admissions that following the match I would be officially placed on the wait list. I emailed back and learned that the wait list is ordered (based on stats+interview), but admissions was unable to tell me my place on that list. Essentially now it is a waiting game.

I have ranked TCOM and one other school as my first choices so this is slightly discouraging. Admissions said they pull off the wait list after the match and up to even July... last year someone entered into the class a week after the semester began. I hope all the other OOS'ers have good news awaiting them. I heard our statuses on the TCOM portal page should change sometime after the match to reflect our post-match standing (I already know mine). 😉

I am waitlisted too 🙁 and the adcom could not tell me my place on the list because "the list is so small anyway, they don't tell you your position". I hope that is a good thing and there will be some movement soon. That would suck finding out anytime after May. I thought my wait would be over....but now it just continues 😴.

Hey MeganMarie... maybe the list is just you and I

Good luck everyone! Hope we all get great news. If not, just means some of us will have to wait a bit longer. I went through this last year and it sucked but didn't kill me!👍

megan, CBo, ...me three! I confirmed over the phone today that I have also been waitlisted as an OOSer.

Meanwhile, it seems that the two of you have been awarded admittance elsewhere. I am also comforted with another offer (at WesternU), and I am awfully excited for the opportunities there, but... my wife and I are still convinced TCOM will be the best solution for us.

I'll begin a list to summarize Waitlisted OOSers. I am willing to volunteer more info about myself in an attempt to predict the order we will get accepted from this waitlist. Good idea?

Waitlisted OOSers:
Meganmarie
CBoJackson16
AandW

Hey Megan and other OOS'ers.. How do you know you're waitlisted? My online status still says under review.

They called you?!! I'm going to be worried if the phone rings.

No sorry chromosomeone, Meganmarie and AandW called admissions and admissions told them. If you want to know I think you could probably email or call them as well. Good luck! I hope you hear better news!!!

Ohh I misread that. I think I'm too much of a baby to call. haha.
