mzebda called TMDSAS, which I believe released the match results, not the schools themselves and they did not give a clear answer. I guess it's nice to speculate, but it seems completely out of our control. We'll just have to hold our breath on Jan 30th and manically refresh at 5pm that night until who knows when

Just wondering does everyones status say "under review." I did call TMDSAS last week and they told me it could be either Friday, Saturday, or Monday but she was not sure exactly. I am thinking if 20 people call them they maybe able to give us some answer.

I might do that, although it seems that they're probably going to get enough heat from other applicants. I was going to call TCOM but I figured they probably already submitted their list and it's out of their control.

TX_NFS, hey no hate here. Tech is a very good school and after checking it out yourself, it makes sense to me that it matches you better than TCOM. As they say during interviews, go where you belong 🙂

I asked about the match results in the Republic of Texas Thread as well. They made a good point that its most likely automated. Someone probably wouldn't be in the office at midnight to post the match results. This makes sense to me..Therefore the automated system will probably post them at Midnight. That's what I am assuming.

So, I just got off the phone with admissions and got some good (or bad) information for oos applicants. First, the committee has met and those selected have been notified. She did say though that they rank the oos students and make it pretty far through the list because many get offers closer to home or at other schools and decide to go there instead. She also told me that they interviewed about 200 people for the 18 spots and that they will fill those 18 spots with oos applicants. She spoke with me for about 10 mins and basically kept reiterating that they go through many of the applicants before the fill the seats.

Since I'm lazy and posted about Tech earlier (before you went to interview), here's a link to my earlier post about it in case you didn't see it already.

In short though, I would say I was pleasantly surprised. I would have to say that at first, the concept of rotations in multiple cities sort of scared me at first (e.g. Tech and A&M) as I'm used to hearing about the TMC and multitudes of other hospitals here in Houston. After thinking it through though, it makes sense to spread out as there aren't huge amounts of people in Lubbock (or College Station).

Hopefully I won't generate lots of hate from this thread, but I did end up ranking Tech higher than TCOM in my match. :ninja:

Hey thanks. I did go back and your earlier post. What impressed me the most was that it seems that you get a lot of hands on experience since there are fewer residents, etc. They also seem committed to improvement as an institution. Anyway, I also ranked them higher. At least that way I feel like I didn't waste my money on the trip to Lubbock and it will make my match day interesting. Either way I will be happy. They are both great schools and I intend to make the most out of either one. Good luck to you on the match!

So midnight on Saturday? That sounds fine by me.

18 spots for OOS? So that's at least 180, possibly 185 as fergutsi was guessing earlier.

They've been notified? Hmm, I hope the others get on soon and let us know if anything happened. They probably got a notice online as well.

i'm a chocolate fan anyway. maybe a pre-dental or dental student can come over and school us on bad candies for us hehe.

and about that match date, nope still up in the air. as if the suspense can't get any worse. now we have to wonder about which of the four days of the end and beginning of the week match will land on. blah.

you think that is suspenseful? wait until you have to wait for the NRMP match, to see if you got the job you always wanted.

lol, but i'm just taking life an event at a time here (and being dramatic 😉) right now i whine about the MCAT, i will whine harder about COMLEX and USMLE when i get there. same goes for NRMP 😛

but i will admit, NRMP wins this one.

Something about that doesn't seem right....and I hope it isn't right because my status online still says "application under review". I think if a decision had been made, the status would change before even getting a call. Even if a person is waitlisted, the status would change. I am hoping this isn't true because if it is....I sure didn't get a call so I did not get in 🙁. Any other OOS'ers hear anything???

No changes online for me. Thanks SGTDoc for the update... It would be fun to see in real-time how they widdle down the OOS list. Anyway, I suspect we will all hear one thing or another about our chances at TCOM by the end of the month.

phew, that makes me feel better! it's my birthday tomorrow, maybe they are waiting to tell me I am accepted tomorrow....how cool would that be! I WISH 🙄

Happy Birthday Meganmarie!

And hey you never know what could happen.. That sure would be a great birthday gift! 👍

Should've told us sooner 😉 Happy birthday!

Yeah, it seems OOS people will hear right around when we hear. Getting excited? 🙂 It might as soon as next week for OOS so good luck!

Happy Early Birthday MeganMarie!!! YAY for aquarius!! i'm a fellow aquarian 😀 *pours everyone a shot of tequila/milk (for those who are good)*

Happy Birthday! Hope you get in. It's cool that it's picked up over here.

This doesn't make sense that they would interview 200 people for 18 spots because according to USNews, last year 227 OOS applicants applied, 45 OOS applicants were interviewed, 36 OOS applicants were accepted, and 12 OOS applicants matriculated. I'm sure they didnt accept all 36 at one time because that would put them way over the allowed 10% OOS, so they probably will make some offers and then additional offers as those initial offers are declined.

yeah that is a very good point, and I didn't even think about that. I remember reading similar statistics somewhere, and on an earlier post someone said that you have about a 60% or greater chance of being accepted once interviewed. 👍

Well, the 66% chance is based on the total # of those interviewed versus offers, so I guess it can be proportioned to just OOS. That process that L4L described makes a lot of sense since they'll just trickle down the list until they get a dedicated group set on going.

For us, the waitlist post-match seems more uncertain, because it seems that those who got accepted are probably going to attend. Then again there was a lot of generous waitlist movement in last year's thread, so I dunno.

Only about 200 OOS even apply! They don't interview ALL of them... come on. I even called about a week ago (I am OOS) and she emphasized LATE January. I think we'll find out in about a week, just like in-state. Why would admissions say 200 OOS interviews and 18 accept? 🙁

haha I think that post freaked all of us OOS'ers out, but it cannot be right. Just like you said about 200 apply, and not all are interviewed. Hopefully next week we will all hear some good news :luck:

The woman I spoke to was lynn, who, if i remember correctly, was the woman who ensured your file info was still the same. I didnt get a call either, and I really want to go to TCOM, but she said they had already met for the final time and have notified the people who have been accepted. Maybe she misspoke when she said that about the 200 interviews, I dont know. I am just relaying what she told me and she explained the whole process to me and how it usually works out, so I think she knows what she is talking about. She did say, though, multiple times that they work through the list, sometimes it might be later in the cycle as people get accepted elsewhere

based off the RoT thread tmdsas is releasing the match friday night at midnight!!! I wish i could just fast forward to then, this wait is killin me

Yeah, I'm sure SgtDoc was just relying info and not trying to be alarmist. Like the others said, I don't think OOS decisions are final until the online notices are up. It still hasn't changed for us IS people and it probably will next week in preparation.

wowzers, thanks for letting us know. I haven't been to the RoT thread for a while and I figured they probably found out. Here's to next Friday 🙂

Even though I'm a little later than everyone else (but technically on time! 😉 ), happy B-day Megan! For you and the other OOSers, from what Live4Life posted, an 80% acceptance rate for interviewees is even better than what we Texans get... be patient and I'm sure the good news will come rolling in!👍

I was thinking the same thing for you OOSers. 80% is really good chance. There may be a few more spots this year for both instaters and out of staters because they may increase the class size some.

friday?? oh geez...so close but so far. i'm scurred. hang in there ISers and OOSers! :xf:

Yep, 18 seats for OOS is means about 9 more seats for IS from last year hopefully. It's looking good for both types.

I'm always impressed by most OOS applicants in general. TMDSAS is huge pain to fill out and to stack on another primary app upon secondaries just for one state is pretty dedicated in itself.

yeah im gonna say that tmdsas feels a lil prehistoric compared to aacomas and amcas...you def have to be motivated to fill that out if your out of state

just a quick note about admissions. Since most of you applied about 9 months ago, im sure youve all been doing worthwhile things with your time, you may want to shoot an email out the admissions office and make sure they know, so they can update your file. for example i took the GRE after submitting and emailed them with the results (which were pretty decent , 1350) and had them added to my file. 3 days later (that friday afternoon when the comittee met) i got a phone call at 4pm EST. did the email with my GRE score make the difference? i dont know, but it sure as heck didnt hurt. so you guys might want to think about that. you might even want to just take the GRE quickly and see if you do well and send the scores, if you dont do well, then you dont have to tell them anything. I swear its just like the SAT guys, maybe a little harder math. Anyways, best of luck to you guys. and i hope to be scaring you in your clerkship years when im your resident.

I called in December and asked how I could improve my situation since I had not received any notice since my interview. They said that my file was still in consideration, etc. etc. which basically meant I could do little to improve it at this stage. That's when I asked about a letter of intent, but SDN convinced me this is more for waitlisted people.

I'll consider what you said, but I think I'll hold off until judgment day. I hope I can be one of those lucky 2/3s who didn't get a prematch offer but will match this month; if not, maybe a little extra buff and shine would help.

Haha, it would be great to do clerkships with you. Don't be too hard on the med students when you get there

does anyone know how many spots the waitlist moved from last year?

Hmm, good question...it seems the old thread only has anecdotes but no hard data. It doesn't look like the website or anything official documents it either.

Now that I think about it, every school that I ever researched along the way doesn't have anything official. I guess we would have to ask admissions themselves, but odds are they'll just tell you about your own situation if you're waitlisted.

i freaking HATE the waitlist system. i wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait.. and wait. and wait.. and then find out i don't get in. Its like a very very very slow death, a very painful one too. just SHOT me in the head already. HAH!

Hey, kymacy, welcome to SDN or maybe you've been around. Yeah, the waitlist can be grueling, especially when only descriptive data can be given out. Oh, I'm on the upper echelon of the waitlist? Fantastic...when do I hear back? What can I do to improve my situation? Hmm, no info? Okay then, thank you for your time 🙁

I guess there's always a chance up until the last day. I know I would drop everything if I heard back from TCOM if it was a week before orientation. It would suck but only for that week.

On another note, does anyone find it a little funny that the Superbowl is on the technical match day?

hah yeah waitlist does not sound too appealing right now amid this waiting. but hey...doesn't matter how you get in, just matters that you are in right? 😉

and i'm kind of glad match day is on superbowl day. that way in case they decide not to post until monday, we'll have a big distraction.

one more week!! ahhh!!! :bang:

Actually, the people over in the RoT thread already semi-confirmed that the match is automated and will be released on Friday at midnight, so it's actually about 6 days from now 😱

If you login to TMDSAS on match preference it says they will be released on Jan. 30th. Not sure what time tho.

Ohhh wow, thanks for that notice. It seems that they'll probably do it at closing time since midnight would mean the 31st, right?

TCOM's status page didn't change for me either. It still says under review. Anyone think it'll change tomorrow to the 'wait until match day' line they used last year?

It might be released at midnight on the 29th, meaning the 30th. Just like we thought that releasing on Feb 1st meant midnight on Jan 31st. But I'll guess we'll have to see. Little less waiting.

Plus I wonder if TCOM's site will be updated before the match.

You mean Thursday at midnight? That would be niceeee 🙂

I'm sure TCOM will make mass updates to everyone who is still in state and under review. It would just take a quick flick of their program to do it. Then again, TCOM's status website is not exactly the easiest to use but it does the job.

It changed last year with only about a week to go, so it probably won't be different this year.

Yeah, Thats what I meant. Thursday night at midnight. That's when I think they will be released. Or they may do it on Friday, Jan 30th at 5pm.

Yeah, it could be either. When I saw Jan 30th, I figured 5pm after they close the office, but I wished on Thursday night. I'd be up anyway.

I'm sure people will refresh the crap out of the site at both times. Everyone going to come here when it happens for a little TCOM SDN party?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It is probably an automated process. I'll probably check here to see if results are posted then check tmdsas. Or I'll just end up checking again and again on tmdsas.

I bet there will be a lot of posts after match results, all the people will come back in here.

Well, that and I suspect a lot of lurkers make new accounts or old users who never post will make a return. It'll be the same thing that happened on Nov 15th when the prematch came.

I don't mind but it would be nice to know some of these people before I congratulate them and never hear from them again on SDN.

As per the Republic of Texas thread, check the "Or View" link on your TMDSAS status page. Looks like there may be an early preview of the match there...? (For in-staters).

There is...but I think only if you have a prematch offer already. When I logged into enter match preference and clicked on Or View it now shows a Decline next to TCOM and Accept/Decline next to Texas Tech for me.

It's good to hear they will be releasing the match results early. The earlier the better 🙂. Does anyone know what the 'Or View' thing is on the TMDSAS page?

That'd be nice if TCOM updated to something like 'wait until match day'.

I'm glad/excited/going crazy because match day is almost here 😀 + :scared:

Same here. Sorry to get people's hopes up, especially since it looks like the link wasn't supposed to be activated yet and only people with existing pre-match offers may see something new... at least we know TMDSAS isn't sitting idle.

We now return to your regularly scheduled programming...watching for match day. 😱
