2nd time IS (VA) interview. Does anyone have any idea how the 256 might be divided up between pools? Last year they interviewed 500 so they cut the interview group in half
My email said they are interviewing 500.2nd time IS (VA) interview. Does anyone have any idea how the 256 might be divided up between pools? Last year they interviewed 500 so they cut the interview group in half

Definitely a thing! My mentor who graduated a couple of years ago said he got waitlisted then interviewed at VMCVM!
This year they have switched to in person interviews for IS candidates and virtual for OOS. Hopefully this offers some clarity 🙂I might be wrong. I thought it’s a recording interview. You can pick anytime based on your own time during the time period they mentioned in the email. There is also an info session coming up.
I would also highly recommend attending an info session if you are able!
How did you find that out ?There were only 256 selected for an interview or IS waitlist out of 2,200 applicants

I feel like they mean 500 in total and 256 (or whatever the number is) is all the IS applicants while the rest are OOS. That’s how I took it at least, I could be very wrong!
Thank you! I emailed the admissions email from the website.
You’re welcome ! Hoping for a great outcome for you.

Thats what i was thinking too! I have seen others say it was the other way (256 IS and 500 OOS) but I feel like thats too many

I'm from MD and I got an in-person invite! Are MD/WV doing in person interviews too or is it just VA?
My email says 256 people were chosen to interview, so I assume the 256 reflects the number of VA/MD/WV people that they invited to interviewWas wondering this too… for MD/WV people as well did your interviews say 256 interview candidates or 500? Our goal is to seat the class with 126 students, including 50 Virginia, 30 Maryland, 6 West Virginia, and 40 out-of-state residents. Each residency pool is considered individually. For example, Virginia residents are not competing with Maryland residents.2nd time IS (VA) interview. Does anyone have any idea how the 256 might be divided up between pools? Last year they interviewed 500 so they cut the interview group in half
this is what the email said about the break down
Regarding prep-- there is not much that you can do to prep for these. You can look up examples of multiple-mini interview format questions and look through them, but it is not like a hot/cold interview that is directly about you or information you provided. More scenario based. I would also recommend reviewing the phase 4 evaluation section on their admissions page regarding evaluation criteria. How is everyone interview prepping? I feel this might be the only one I get so I really need to have a good interview![]()
Additionally, the info sessions prior to interviews are helpful, so attend one if you can!

Have they already sent out session dates ? Just making sure I didn’t miss anything.
I personally don't know if they have or not, or if they are planning to do them this year. There were a few opportunities the past 2 cycles. If you have any questions, it doesn't hurt to reach out to admissions.Have they already sent out session dates ? Just making sure I didn’t miss anything.

I think the info sessions are the things the night before the interviews that you RSVP for alongside your interview date.Have they already sent out session dates ? Just making sure I didn’t miss anything.
Typically they are different (at least virtually/during covid) they were. For IS applicants, i believe more info will be given the day before, but not sure how they're doing everything this year for those OOS.I think the info sessions are the things the night before the interviews that you RSVP for alongside your interview date.
So are questions less like "tell me about a time that showed _________ trait" and more like scenarios that they want to see how you'd act in?Regarding prep-- there is not much that you can do to prep for these. I don't know exactly how much is too much to share, so here is what the website says
"Interviews are conducted in the following format: In-Person Multiple Mini-Interviews (MMIs), a series of timed scenarios designed to assess such attributes as communication skills, ethical and moral judgment, management of team and self, problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, creativity, resiliency, and cultural bias."
if you look up "MMI questions med school" or "MMI questions vet school" and there should be plenty of examples to look through 🙂

When was the link sent out ?
I really appreciate how transparent they’re being about the interview process for OOS applicants- the format is a bit daunting and so I appreciate that! I plan to attend one of info sessions on the 8th.
