yeah i got the email as well... it's interesting; most sites always say they would never ask you to email them your info. maybe i'm being overly paranoid, but i was hoping to wait and see if sending in your info actually works before responding. has anyone had success after emailing them back?

I emailed them back and I got the same problem too. I had received that email posted on the previous page as well. So yeah let's see what happens. I'm still having issues with the site.

I got the email and sent them my information last night. Now when I try to log in I don't get an error message but I just get redirected to the log in page. Thankfully I've already submitted my secondary and am just trying to check my status. It has to be frustrating for all of you trying to wrap up your application.

Worked for me. I emailed them last night and now I can log in.

Works for me now. I emailed last night and it works today. I don't know if it is cuz I'm using a computer from my school's med school library or if it is cuz I emailed them. I guess I'll find out when I get back on my own computer to finish things tonight. 😀 😀

i emailed them this morning and now its working for me

except now my LOR are messed up... on the LOR section, it says my packet has been received. But then when I go to the status page, it says its not received- anyone else with this problem??

Did anyone figure out if that technical difficulties e-mail was legit ? Maybe someone e-mailed or called the admin office regarding the authenticity of this message ? I think I might e-mail the office, if someone else around here hasn't already done so...

Yes it was legit. I sent my AMCAS ID and the other things they asked for and now it works for me. Some others on here said theydid the same thing and it is working for them

Yeah, I emailed my info this morning and a couple hours later it was working for me too...

I did the same thing as well...and it worked...I was just resonating some of the earlier posts' paranoia...no need to be paranoid, I guess...But hey! We're talking med school applications, right ? 'Tis the season for neuroticism...

Rejected from BU interview... 32Q MCAT, 3.75 Total gpa, 3.7 BCPM, lots of research (1 yr out of undergrad, working in lab), and clinical/ volunteering... complete on 9/16. I am a little bummed, as a flat-out rejection is a little dissappointing 🙁. Any advice? Am I too late in the app cycle? I know BU is recieves over 10,000 apps....

Don't let it get you down. For all of us, there is more rejection to come. BU has rejected some incredible applicants this year. Can't quite figure out what they are looking for.

Being complete 9/16 is definitely not too late in my opinion. SDN may lead you to believe otherwise.

Thanks linguini 🙂 Your kind words are comforting. Good luck to you!

-Cheers

I've been complete since 9/2 and still havent heard anything. I called them last week and was told that I am under review. Anybody experiencing the same thing?

yeah i've been complete since 9/9 but not a peep from them... i'm guessing it'll take them at least a month or so before rejecting/inviting??

I've been complete since 7/30 and still nothing.

Don't be bummed out by a rejection from BU. Yes, it does receive 10,000 apps and most of them are very good applicants, so, most need to be rejected even for an interview.

Again, I want to emphasize that admissions committee really look for the "how would you fit into BU" from your application. How they look for it, I'm not sure. However, I can tell you, in our class of 180 students, every person is different and yet it definitely feels like we get along great and BU is a great fit for all of us. So, they must be doing something right. As the dean of admissions says, "hard to believe, but it's not just all random."

Hey,
don't feel bad. I got rejected too- greater than 30 MCAT AND I have a PhD in basic science.
🙂

If they are rejecting people that were complete on 9/16, then I must be in line for the next set of rejections...oh goody!!!

Wow! They must be crazy.... Thats wonderful you have gotten a PhD, what topic? My boyfriend is going for his in Biochemistry... been 4 years and still no end in sight! An endurance test for sure!

So can I assume that either I'm on hold or still under review? I was complete early September. And it seems that quite a few SDNers have heard back even though they were complete after me..

yeahh,, complete 8/14.. no news apart from "sorry we are taking too long" email

Got another e-mail from BU Admins today stating, 'technical difficulties should be resolved'...I'm so tempted to e-mail them and be like, 'yeah...uhhh...the status page seems to be working fine and all, but whenever I check my 'interview scheduling' page, there's no interview dates listed...can you help me out with this ?' hahaha

I want a BU invite sooo baddd!!

haha!

Our application process, in general terms, proceeds as follows:

1. Our first step each year is to establish a universe of academically prepared individuals within the pool of candidates who file initial applications with us. This year, it looks like we will be working with approximately 12,000 applications. The initial screening step is based largely, but not exclusively, upon quantitative data such as academic performance at the undergraduate, postbaccalaureate and graduate levels, MCAT scores, and academic rank of the educational institution(s). Various aspects of life history are also considered. In recent years we have had almost 5000 applications pass this initial screen and move on to additional review and consideration.

2. Next, we review the remaining folders in even greater detail, struggling to identify the candidates with special or unusual characteristics that suggest they may be particularly well suited to attending our medical school. Of the approximately 5,000 applicants reviewed at this level, we have capacity to interview only about 1,000, so we are forced to make many arbitrary and subjective decisions. Our focus is on a comprehensive, holistic evaluation of each applicant, incorporating academic and nonacademic factors in a highly individualized review. Once again, it is extremely unusual for a decision to be made on the basis of only 1 factor. Rather, these decisions reflect our sense of the overall portfolio.

3. After interview the folders are reviewed yet again, this time with the interviewer's report providing important, but not necessarily determinative, guidance in our final decision about acceptance. By this stage of the process each applicant folder has been scrutinized and discussed by no fewer than 8 members of the Committee on Admissions.

Please accept our best wishes as you pursue other options to begin your career in Medicine.

Sincerely,

Robert A. Witzburg, M.D.
Associate Dean and Director of Admissions

Thought this may help.... for all of you still waiting, that is probably a good thing as you made it into the "smaller applicant pool"...

Good Luck!

Hmmm, well seeing how admissions decisions are sometimes made "arbitrarily" makes me feel better...:scared:

Good Luck!

But plenty of people with high numbers have been rejected already...

Since the initial screen is "largely quantitative," how does that work? Are there multiple stages of hold? One for numbers and one for more qualitative aspects?

So this is the rejection letter they send? If so, that's actually pretty nice of them to explain their process.

The Committee on Admissions of Boston University School of Medicine has completed its review of your application. It is with great regret that I inform you that we will be unable to offer an interview this year. This is a disappointment, as much for those who are responsible for the decision as it may be for you, the candidate who is turned away.

Most of the candidates we are considering this year are qualified to attend medical school and are likely to make important contributions to our profession and to society. Sadly, with more than 100 applicants for every seat in the class, we are forced to deny many exceptional people.

We acknowledge and respect your accomplishments and recognize that our inability to offer you an opportunity to complete the admissions process is a loss for Boston University. Please accept our best wishes for all your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Robert A. Witzburg, M.D.

....I hate you BU!!!..Stealer of my dreams!&^&*

But plenty of people with high numbers have been rejected already...

The explanation of the process is somewhat simplified. Yes, there may be somewhat initial quantitative screen, but again, it doesn't always happen because applicants with something special in their application and a possible "BU fit" might get an interview, even if they dont have stellar stats.

Aw trojan, don't worry, you're in good company. I have a few friends at BU right now and they all say it's a "fit" school, not something you have a ton of control over.

cGPA of 3.85 and 31 MCAT...can't say I wasn't expecting it at least a little bit.

First rejection still sucks though, especially flat-out.

did everyone get the "sorry this is taking so long" email? I didnt get that one, but I did get the two "technical difficulties" emails. Maybe they're not sorry it's taking so long for me cuz I'm already in the rejection pile? I hope I'm looking into this too much. But, I've only been complete since 9/12.....

I seriously doubt that's what it means. I haven't gotten the apologies for taking so long email either. I think this is due to a later completion date as well. I was complete on 9/5.

Yea, I also have not received the "sorry its taking so long" email, and I've been complete since 9/2.

Complete around 8/30 and received it. Maybe the end of August is the cut-off date?

Oh and if you guys are curious, I have a 3.7 and 30 MCAT. My stats are very middle of the road, so BU was kind of a prayer to begin with.

Maybe it was the glaring typo I made in the second paragraph of my second essay...

i wouldnt think too much about the typo, i made one in another school's secondary and got an interview there. everything happens for a reason, you'll get into harvard now!

I've been complete since 8/26 and got the email. Just wondering if anyone who's been complete since around or before then has received an interview yet? They say they hand out interviews in the order of when you were complete, so if not, what's the latest date of being complete have people received an interview for?

Did anyone get rejected by BU in less than 2 weeks like I did? Its a little disconcerting and demoralizing. I was complete 9/17 and was rejected 10/1. 3.7 GPA, 30 MCAT, 2+ yrs research, 200+ hrs clinical volunteering, medical missions, various work experiences and clubs. It just would have been nice if they could have held onto my application for another few weeks. Getting rejected in less than 2 weeks makes me think as soon as they opened my app, they were severely turned off and thought I sucked.🙁Hmmmm...

which college did u go to? maybe that base it on that?? i was completed 9/9 and not a single peep from them... not sure what's up.. i guess they don't go by order? but it doesn't even tell me whether or not i'm on hold...

i went to USC, hence the screen name. I dont think the name of the college plays a significant role

BU is very much a "match" school. They are notorious for rejecting super applicants early in the process, knowing very well that you'll probably pick Yale, Hopkins, Harvard and the like over them. I wouldn't take the fast rejection to heart. Their loss anyway right?

i have been cmplete since 8/14 and nothing except for those sorry for the delay and technical difficulties emails.

just got my interview invite email this morning!!!!!!! 😍😍😍
