I know a lot of pre-meds who are tools and it wouldn't suprise me if they picked schools based on how many hot girls they thought would be near by. So It wasn't tooo disturbing to me, but in all honesty...who says that kind of stuff. I sense a socially awkward guy in real life..

Who? Me or him?

It's just the context in which it was stated. I dunno, I should have let it go, my main point to the non-trolls was that I have heard from multiple people that Georgetown wants you to go to school there because they are Georgetown, not because they are in the District of Columbia.

Him for sure. And I agree, Georgetown wants you if you think they are truly the right fit for you. Some things they do there could come off as abrasive to some, while others will love everything about them. They want the ones who love everything about them.

Very true. A better take on my original point about what I have heard Georgetown is looking for^^^^^

Have you been on the interview yet? If not, I would be suprised if you didn't change your mind about the bolded statement above. Of all the schools I interviewed at, it seemed like Georgetown was extraordinarilly committed to their philosophy and this is present in all the faculty, staff, and students (at least the ones I talked to). I haven't seen this at other schools, and I think it is really neat to have a guiding philosophy like this that the whole school unites behind.

based on your mdapps, u have only interviewed at 1 school besides georgetown. no, my first interview is in january. you do realize that humanism is really defined as "everything in moderation; tolerance of others, being individualistic, etc". jesuit founders like Loyola hated humanists like Erasmus. being forced to do community service makes the school special? i think not. but at all the schools you are allowed or even encouraged to do community service, and at some others you are required to do it. but anyway i've decided not to apply there, because i would probably get rejected. i did write the outline about how i love their philosophy but decided not to go through with it.

when i interview at a school, i will pay special attention to how friendly(vs. toolish) the students are and how the location fits with my needs. but i dont have any illusions about how some jesuit(or nonjesuit) philosophy will make me a better or worse physician.

I've been to four interviews now, including GTown, and I can verify that they truly do seem the most devoted to their philosophy.

I have been on five interviews (you may want to revisit my MDApps--i think you are just looking at the "interviews" section and not the accepted/waitlisted section). There is a lot more to Georgetown's philosophy than what you mentioned above. Again, you will see when you get there, I was quite suprised myself. As far as if the Jesuit philosophy will make you a better or worse physician, that all depends on your idea of better and worse. They are very persistent that Georgetown is not for everyone.

EDIT: Just saw you decided not to finish your Georgetown app.... so nevermind

Hopefully we'll be hearing something positive this week! 👍

Interviewed: mid-Sept
Competitive waitlist letter sent on: 10/31
Received it on 11/3

Hope that helps you guys...I thought I was gonna get rejected. There's hope!

Ah, interesting! So the letters were sent at the end of the month instead of the 16th.

Congrats on the waitlist guys, it's not an acceptance but a waitlist at gtown is a lot better than it is at other school.

I called the admissions office (202-687-1154) just a minute ago, and they said that a letter was being sent out today.

Hopefully it contains good news :luck:

just called and confirmed my letter was sent out today as well. good luck!

i have my fingers crossed for good news today!! i have faith in the US Postal Service that my mail will be here within 2-3 business days from tuesday... making today the 3rd business day... hopefully it's good news 👍

can anyone post MSAR stats for georgetown?

like enrollment, acceptance, and interviewed (which i think is around 1,100).

I know the matriculants figure is 194.

1312 interviewed, 190 matriculated.

i've been complete for FOREVER (yes, forever), and still no word from them.

no news is good news, right?

I just got a letter waitlisting me into the Competitive Applicant Pool (CAP). Better than a rejection, but I was really hoping for an acceptance.

I guess I better start writing my 3 paragraph letter. Hope everyone else fares a little better than myself.

better than a rejection, and i have heard a lot of people get waitlisted, so just write a really good letter of interest. does anyone know, do they accept ANYONE off the bat?

Looking through last year's thread, it seemed that a portion of people that were put on the CAP in Oct./ Nov. were then accepted in mid-January.

Hi Everyone. I got an acceptance letter from Georgetown yesterday (11/7). I'm thrilled. I live close to DC, so the mail arrived quickly. Hang in there. Hopefully more letters will make it out this week. Best wishes to all.

Congrats! Hoping to hear from Georgetown soon as well.

Congrats Dr2!

Waitlist (CAP)

I don't think the CAP means anything lol. It's just a waitlist... unless there are different categories of waitlists.

WL too, not offput at all since I was kind of deterred by my student host's arrogance and I have other things going for me, they have a good amount of WL movement though so gl to people gunning for this school!

Just reading the thread and it seems like you are all waiting for letters and such, so I'll post my information

Accepted letter: received 11/7, sent 11/4
Interview: 9/26

PS: there was one douche bag during my interview day asking the tour guide how the girls at Georgetown are, and if the school being connected to the undergrad campus has helped him any. The tour guide looked mortified and completely ignored his question. Also, Georgetown really cares about their Jesuit philosophy, as many have stated, and if you are still holding on to the secondary, make sure you focus on this a lot! GL! :luck:

my roommate (who doesn't use sdn) just got an acceptance letter. we interviewed the same week. hopefully, whatever type of letter they sent me didn't get lost in the mail...argh. post offices are closed tomorrow too. the wait is excruciating knowing my decision is somewhere in mail-limbo. *sigh*

at least it feels good knowing that Georgetown is 3rd or 4th on his very impressive list of potential med schools. i'm sure the waitlist will move quickly if the other guys they let in are in a similar position...

I'm working on completing the Georgetown secondary (I know, I'm late!). I'm looking for any information anyone feels like sharing about the secondary's essay. Thanks!

I just received my wait-list letter.

Does anybody know what I am supposed to write about in that 3 paragraph letter to Mrs. Sullivan? I know she was fairly specific about it on interview day.

🙄

Really?

I believe so. I wrote Mrs. Sullivan's directions in my folder, then lost it.

Can anyone help me on this?

Just interviewed there this past Friday. She basically told us to write a three paragraph letter on why we wanted to go to Georgetown. She didnt mention anything specific but I would be sure to mention some of the things she talked about that made Georgetown unique.
Ex) Physician healer, physician advocate, volunteer community, etc

Hope this helps. I have a few notes so if I can help further just PM me

Anyone know a definitive number of how many people they accept?

Anyone know a definitive number of how many people they accept?

I definetly know that there isn't a definitive number. It all depends on how many people agree to matriculate. If it is a low number, then they have accept more from the waitlist.

Anyone know who we're supposed to send this letter of interest to? The admissions office.. or do we address it to Dr. Sullivan and then send it to the admissions office? Or to her directly?

I'm planning to send one by email

Can you elaborate on this a little bit? How religious did you find the school? I'm super-excited about my interview next week, but I'm very nervous about how religious of an atmosphere it will be.

They don't proselytize.

The Jesuit philosophy, though, is all about helping those who cannot help themselves. As well as being a physician healer as opposed to just a physician.

fair enough, I can work with that 🙂

Hah, interviewed on the 18th of September and I'm still waiting for my letter.😳
