So I'm one of those students who is still eagerly awaiting an interview. Is there ANYTHING I can do to get that interview before they're all gone? I.e. call the office, send something else?

I've already sent another letter of recommendation, my fall semester grades, and an email stating me continued interest in interviewing at Temple.

Would doing anything else be overkill? I fear that if I don't get that interview by the end of the week, that's it.

have you called them to ask if they have interviews left

I just check and they have March 24, 25 open, I don't know if they're interviewing into April cause nothing is there. Good luck!

I did--they're interviewing "through April."

But I feel like I should do something to push my chances along, no?

yeah definitely. send an LOInterest and include updates. be specific

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a LOInterest is basically a specifically-tailored letter expressing your intention to attend the university if offered an acceptance, yes?

I always thought L'sOInterest would be more appropriate post-interview. In my case, I'm still waiting for an interview.... should I still submit a letter like that?

And if so, would email be too informal?

Thanks for the help

I think what you are referring to is the LOIntent and that is sent after an interview in which you say you will attend if accepted. LOInterest is similar except it does not have the line "I will def attend if accepted". You can send LOInterest to the school to show why the school is a good fit for you and why you want to attend the school (research, clinical exposure, diverse patient pop., etc). E-mail would not be too informal, but make you e-mail look something like this

You address (two lines)
March 10, 2009

(three lines)

Committee on Admissions
Temple University ...
Address...

Dear Committee on Admissions,

I love Temple please love me back.

Sincerely,
Your name
AMCAS ID: 123456789

Good luck.

From your post, the email talking about your continued interest in an interview sounds like an LOInterest already. I'm not sure when you sent it, but if you don't have anything new to add to what you have already sent, I might hold off sending anything.

BTW just curious... did a lot of people who interviewed at Temple also interview at Rush?? I feel like these two schools go for the same type of applicant... any comments??

I don't get it--all L(s)OInterest must sound alike, the same fake and cheesy lines. "I wish to express my continued to interest in your school, I like Temple because... I've been doin this... blah blah." Sounds very boring.

Honestly, I only know about Temple what I read on her website. But that doesn't mean I'm not genuinely interested in the school.

How do L(s)OInterest sound... interesting?

Hey i was waitlisted at temple about 3 weeks ago and just got in today via email!

Write about things that the skool has to offer that other skools don't. Talk about their curriculum if it suits u. For example, in my letter to vandy I talked about how much I would like to participate in the emphasis program, which is a long term project. Philly should have a pretty diverse patient pop so u can talk about that, u want to experience a wide variety of patients. Many skools don't have a diverse patient pop etc. Good luck.

Can anyone direct me to the thread where the Temple interview questions are discussed? Can't seem to find it on SDN. Interview coming up on March 19. Thx!

was the email titled second look? It was one of the most confusingly worded email I got.

You could have gotten the second look e-mail if you have been waitlisted. That does not mean you have been accepted yet.

On a side note, second look is actually on Match Day 2009, what do you guys think about that?

I was recently waitlisted and received an acceptance/Second look email today as well. It reads:

"On behalf of the Admissions Committee, we are pleased to welcome you to the Class of 2013 at Temple University School of Medicine. Official notification of your acceptance will be sent this Friday, March 13th. In the meantime, I wanted to extend an invitation to our Second Look program which is being held next Friday, March 20th.

Congratulations and welcome to the Temple family!

This is what I got as well. By the way, congrats on making it into your first choice.

that is fantastic!!! (im way jealous) I was wait listed as well, and have since sent a LOI. did you send them updates/ have other communication with them? I wasnt planning on hearing anything until post May 15.

I called to check status last week and express my continued interest, and in the next days I received an interview invite. Im going Mar 25. I do not know if my pestering them helping in any way, but at least you know they are still inviting.

Does anyone know if all the acceptance spots have been offered? Does Temple interview for WL? I have already spent way to much on interview travel expenses, and I'd rather not go if its only going to be to get my hopes up for WL. Thanks!

I wasn't planning on hearing anything til May 15 either. This was a real (good) surprise. I hadn't had any communication with them since the interview, no updates or LOI.

Best of luck everybody!

Anyone else out there complete late (Novemer or on) at Temple? Have you heard anything, interview, rejection?

I was complete in mid-Novmeber, and still havent heard back. Last year I was complete in December, interviewed in April and was CCLd in June ...

Congrats. I beleive Temple is one of the few schools that does interview only for the WL. I think they dont over accpet, or not very much, and so end up pulling a lot from the waitlist. But, my thinking was that, if your app hasnt been reviewed post interview by may 15, your chances go down a lot, but thats just my guess ...

Haven't heard a peep...silent rejection??

Complete and "Under Review" since last August. Called this morning and they are supposedly still handing out interviews! I'm sure very few, but I would love to have one!!!

I submitted my secondary pretty late--but haven't heard ANYTHING--been "under review" for the longest time now...I've even sent update letters to see if that'll do anything..guess not

There is hope!

I got an interview invitation yesterday for the first week of April. I was complete the very end of September. Goodluck guys!

Congrats! Did you send any updates to them, eg a new letter of recommendation, LOI?

after realizing just how absolutely outrageous their tuition is , I am going to withdraw.

I completed on 1/15... interview invite like 2 weeks later... Interviewed on 2/17... Accepted on 3/10

Completed secondary in October and got invite finally on 3/16. Little late on posting that.

Is this school really far from downtown/old town (is that what it's called?) philadelphia? I hear it is in a "bad" part of town. Any subways go there?

I think it's about 2 miles north of downtown, or something like that. It's not in the greatest neighborhood, but just imagine that you would probably be in the med school building the whole time. There's a subway that goes up there.

Let say the surrounding neighborhood isnt the greatest. There is a reason why they have a row of Lights on top of buildings the illuminate the street near the school and hospital. However, i'm not from the greatest neighborhood either, so its no big deal for me. Its all relative I guess. But, the new med school is absolutely gorgeous. It looks like a las vegas hotel/casino.

There is a subway station about 3 blocks away (think its called Alleghany Station) Temple is only about 10 minutes from downtown. Hope this helps

Row of lights? Haha. Isn't there a school with barbed wire too somewhere

Yes those replies helped. Thanks!

so are the interviews being offered now for the late march/april dates for waitlist seats only? or for direct acceptances?

also, does anybody have stats on number of applicants, matriculates etc?

I'm not sure if it is a waitlist or direct acceptance interview for me, and I am in early April. But I am assuming they tell you if it is an interview for a waitlist spot, and they did not mention anything out of the ordinary. At this point, I'll take whatever I can get. Probably a waitlist spot. Who knows.

So I just signed in to check my status, and the first page said, Dear HeresHoping62, congratulations on your acceptance to the class of 2012! This went on with letters from different deans, etc. Clearly, that was wrong, because A, I'm applying for the class of 2013, and B, I have yet to interview. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Same Here!!! WTF!!! I think we should be guaranteed an interview, or we shall file a lawsuit for emotional distress?!

I called, they said its an IT problem

Sure, it's an IT problem, but it's THEIR problem, so they should fix it, and compensate us for dragging it out this long and then posting something so absurd!

I checked my status, and it says the same thing! When I called the office, they said they'll contact the director or someone to look into it. Hopefully it will lead to good news hehe 🙂

Anyone else pre-interview not get the status change? Mine continued to be "under review" for the whole afternoon.

I haven't interviewed and my status still says "Under Review." Dang! Even though it's a glitch, the excitement alone would have been nice...

Hi,

Anyone know if first two years at Temple is P/F?

Thanks in advance 🙂

Temple Hospital is right on the broad street line. It's in the middle of the ghetto, quite literally. North Philadelphia is pretty hardcore and temple gets most of the shootings from the surrounding areas. The area immediately around Temple itself is quasi-gentrified so I don't think the fact that you are surrounded by ghetto is such a big deal. None of the med students i've talked to really care. You don't have to live around the hospital if you don't want to either. Unfortunately, the surrounding communites produce lots of traumas...
