Has anyone been given an invitation for an interview yet. This kid I know is claiming that he has been invited for an interview, but he can be full of ****. Anyways, I was just checking if any of you highly qualified candidates have heard anything about interviews, thanks for the help.

I had the same question as iduwanna.

what courses are considered "200 level" courses?

I believe they are referring directly to the 200 level (or higher) bio classes offered for undergraduates at UIC. Some of the more popular ones are:

Homeostasis
Molecular Biology
Genetics
Ecology/Evolution
Cell Biology

If you took something similar to one of the above classes at your school, then I'm sure it would meet UIC's requirements.

How are you guys sending in your letters? AMCAS has received mine, but my status on UIC's page says they are waiting on my LORs. Does UIC just go to AMCAS to download them or do I need to send them to UIC through AMCAS?

As long as you've assigned the letters via AMCAS, UIC will download them. It takes a while for their webpage to be updated.

the uic website says we can check status through the aamc website... have any of you figured out how to do this??
thanks

if you double click on the grey box to be checked, a window opens up and under default value, you can change it from "not checked" to "checked".

Anyone who is applying or has applied know how lenient they are with their LOR requirement? I only have 2 science profs LOR from my undergrad. I also have two MD letters from the place I work, one of them being the ER medical director. Do you think they would waive that third undergrad LOR? I know I should probably just call, wanted to know if anyone had any helpful info. Thanks.👍

I would just call and let us know on here just in case someone else might have the exact same question.

I called today and the admissions office said that I definitely had to have a third undergraduate professor letter and then I could have the additional MD letters on top of that. Damn...need to find a way to get another letter.🙁

I just submitted woot!

So I am confused with the LOR thru AMCAS. So I got an email from AMCAS saying I needed to designate which schools I want my letters sent. I thought it was going to automatically do this based on what a poster said earelier in this thread.

I went in and designated the two schools I applied to that used the AMCAS service. I then hit submit application again. Was I supposed to do this?

Yeah, it sounds like you did it correctly. Log back in and doublecheck that the letters are still assigned to the schools... if you did it correctly then they should be.

Yeah, I think I did it right. I just wish I had known htis earlier. I thought the schools just automatically downloaded them from AMCAS. Stupid assumption of mine. I just misread what a poster wrote earlier I think. BAH. I guess I'm still kind of early, just not as early as planned. I sent my app in after 4th of July weekend.

That sucks, sorry. But the good news is that they download the info from AMCAS pretty fast so you should be complete in a couple days.

Wow, you aren't kidding. My application is complete now. My status is Application is in Process now. Sweet.

Hey guys,

Quick dumb question. I got the email from UIC and it says:

"Please refer to the following web-page http://www.uic.edu/depts/mcam/supplemental for an on-line Supplemental Application"

I go there and all I see is a PDF file and DOC file I can download. Are they not paperless? The wording of the email makes me think that they are paperless. Thanks!

Nope, not paperless. You have to fill it out, print it out, then send it out. It's a lot of outs.

i submitted 8/1/2008.. have they already started interviews?? i already have my LORs in so hopefully soon soon soon i will find something good out? does anyone know how long it takes after submission to get reviewed?

Look at my mdapps for dates.

They received my letters yesterday, or at least that's the first time I checked.

Quick question... UIC screens yes? What's their criteria?

I have heard from numerous sources that UIC tends to be extremely slow. I was listed as complete on 7/18, and my status page says I am "in process". Does anyone know what this means? Or when they start giving out interviews?

hm they said on the status page my letters of rec haven't been received but they are on AMCAS. i read earlier that this happened to someone but im still kind of confused about the whole thing. should i call ? and when can you call again ?

They still have to download them from AMCAS. It's a quick process (in and of itself), but they still have to actually do it, which could take a few days...depends on when they get to it.

Others have posted on this thread about that. Check it out.

Does anyone know how many students are at the Chicago campus vs non-Chicago campuses? Also, does anyone know how assignment works for the campuses?

Thanks.

Last year's entering class size was 307; that piece of data comes from the latest edition of the MSAR book. Chicago is the biggest campus, and I have a couple of friends that go there. They told me their class size is about 180, but I'm not sure this is completely accurate.

As for how people get assigned to campuses, it's first come first serve. The earlier you apply, the earlier you are accepted, the greater the likelihood that you'll get your first choice of campus. From what I've heard, Chicago seats are filled by December/January. There are ways around this, however. If you can prove to them that you have to go to a certain campus for some personal reason, then they can't really say no. Also, the UMed (Urban Medicine) program guarantees a spot at the Chicago Campus, regardless of how late you are accepted. Similarly, the RMed (Rural Medicine) program guarantees you a spot on the Rockford campus.

Therefore, if you want to be placed in the Chicago campus, and you accidentally applied for the RMed program because you didn't read into it enough, and now you're utterly screwed...well...join the club.

If I'm employed as a researcher at the university (meaning that I'm on the payroll, fill out a tax form and all that) do I count it as a staff position on the app? My gut says no, but I'm not sure.

I should be Chicago=170, Urbana-Peoria=50, Urbana-Rockford=50, and Urbana-Urbana=30. Last year I heard they overadmitted significantly, so there could indeed be 180 in last year's Chicago group.

Your gut is correct that you did not have a staff position if you were also a student, and you did not get benefits (like health insurance). I worked there last summer.

so no interview invites yet from UIC it seems..
i really wish though they would just download my lors from amcas so i could OFFICIALLY be complete 🙂🙂

I dropped by the Admissions Office yesterday. They told me they just started reviewing completed applications. Yikes! 😱

ahh good to know ! i'm finally complete today so i guess that's decent timing ! phew - i'm praying for an interview at this one !!! eeek :luck::luck:

Are you supposed to wait for an acceptance before completing the UMed application or is it a good idea to submit it as early as possible (i.e. the same time as the secondary)? 😕

Can anyone please explain the behavioral/social science pre reqs to me? What do they mean 2 of the 3 course must be in the same field? Meaning same department/subject? I currently have one course in sociology, one in psych, and one in humanities. Is that sufficient? Thanks in advance!

Has anyone had any change on their status page lately? I submitted secondary + letters via AMCAS on 8/6 and they still have not received either.

I suppose it couldn't hurt to fill it out as soon as possible. But from what I'm hearing on this thread, they just started looking at regular applications; it will probably be a while before they start looking at UMed applications. I'd say fill it out as soon as you can, but don't let it take precedence over other secondaries, at least at this point.

Its just as you said, two of the three have to come from the same department/subject. So you'd have to have taken two psychology courses or two sociology courses to meet their prerequisite. You still got time to squeeze another psychology/sociology course into your schedule, right?

I'm with you there. My UIC status page still says that my letters have not been received even though AMCAS received them four days ago! Shouldn't they make it a point to download letters from AMCAS every day? Its the admissions office, right? I mean, what else are they doing? Watching the Olympics? I gotta say, though, that guy Phelps...

I already graduated but I guess if it comes to it, I will take a course at a community college. I do however have two courses from econ. Does that count as social sciences for them?

My letters were all listed for UIC at the same time on interfolio but they only show 2 of them as received. Has anyone had this happen to them?

Any one has an answer to this because I was wondering the same thing about econ? What about philosophy?

My letters were complete on AMCAS about 2 weeks before being updated by UIC. They're slow, so I wouldn't worry too much.

I will call in on Thursday to speak with a counselor. Hopefully we will get an answer then.

Hey guys, I'm wondering the same thing. Counselors are in the office tomorrow apparently. It would be really nice if economics counted as sociology for them. Otherwise it's community college for me as well...

I called the counseling office today and was told that economics fulfills the social/behavioral requirement. So awesome!

I know we've already established that UIC isn't exactly quick when it comes to updating things. Still, I've been holding my breath. The check status page was updated today, and they still haven't downloaded my letters from AMCAS. The letters arrived at AMCAS over a week ago. This is very frustrating.

Anyone out there who did get their LORs updated on the status check page today? If so, when did AMCAS receive your letters?

AMCAS had my letters over a week ago as well. I called UIC yesterday to ask them about it and they told me that they downloaded my letters but are a bit behind in entering them as received in the system. I'd say give them a call if you are nervous about it. The woman I spoke with was very helpful! She said she anticipated they being in the system by the end of the week.
