So, who is going to bite the bullet and call?

I can not believe how neurotic I have become during this process.

Me either... I've resorted to checking my status on my phone every 30 min...

i think whoever posted about the day they were meeting and all that other stuff about how theyre gonna hold a lot of applications is full of it( seeing as they said that the chicago track got filled up in december, yet since then people have stated they have gotten 'said' track). if they met on thursday, it would have been up by now.

+1 month since acceptance still no site placement card in the mail. Called and lady said I should receive it last week. Nada. Hmm... 😴 either mailman is falling asleep or admission's is. Wonder if I should call again to pester about this.

Maybe since it's been so long, they can just tell you your site assignment over the phone? Work that voice and coax it out (tell her that her hair looks lovely today 😛).

me: hello there! How you dooooooooinnnn? (Joey's voice)
lady: OOOOOO....I love you, your site assignment is __________. LOVE LOVE LOVE :laugh:
me: (wink)

So I called, and it didn't quite work out that way. Lady said it was mailed out last friday so I should get it today. She wouldn't tell me over the phone. Hmm..I need to work on my flirting/coaxing skills. LOL

Either that or all of us are waitlisted/deferred until next month. That seems pretty doubtful though, I'm sure they wouldn't defer an entire month worth of interviewees.

If I am interpreting earlier posts correctly, we would get an email if we were deferred a month.

Looking at it from a different angle, it is likely that between the third Thursday of December and now, there just have not been many interviews. I would imagine the adcom would wait until enough interviewed applicants accumulate to make an admissions meeting worthwhile. Remember that nothing happened for two whole weeks because of the holidays.

As for the Chicago track, it probably did fill up in December. That means that those who were admitted in the December cycle filled up the remaining Chicago slots available and they are the people who currently have been/are/will be receiving their site assignments, depending on when they mailed in their forms.

Within the past few hours or so, my application status page switched to:

Current Status: A final decision was made on your application on 01-26-09. Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone.
Is this good? bad?

BTW, hi. My name is Josh. Been lurking a bit, but this is my first post.

Hey Josh, welcome to the forum.

My status page just updated to the same thing--I believe it's a good sign if you're post-interview. From my reading of this thread, more likely than not we're accepted. Hopefully the 'additional correspondence' will come in a few days to confirm.

If I'm under a wrong assumption, please feel free to correct.

They are not full of it. That's what the Dean says (holding a lot of applications, etc.) at each interview day.

Don't pester.

Correct.

BTW, hi. My name is Josh. Been lurking a bit, but this is my first post.

Welcome, Josh, and the previous poster is correct. That looks like an admission. Congratulations! You should get your packet in the mail in 7-10 days with further details and a site preference card.

Congrats to both Josh and BambiMD!!

May I ask when/where you interviewed? Has anyone else had a change in status?

Hi! I've also just been just following this thread praying to hear good news. Interestingly, my status changed at some point this morning (after nearly having a heart attack reading that others' statuses were changed last night). I have the following message:
"A final decision was made on your application on 01-27-09. Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone."
And in the top right corner it says "Additional Correspondence", and for all I know it said that immediately when it was updated. Is that a bad sign?
Also, when should I get the CBC email?
Sorry to sound so paranoid, I'm excited/terrified at the same time. 28 apps, 2 interviews. Oh Boy!

Thanks for any advice!

If you've been following this thread you may have read that "Additional Correspondence" in the top right corner is a good thing. All of us who have been accepted received that along with the "A final decision has been made..." message. CBC email will get to you 1-3 days after "A final decision has made...". I think you're in! Crossing my fingers for ya!

Congrats to both Josh and BambiMD!!

May I ask when/where you interviewed? Has anyone else had a change in status?

I interviewed 1/7 at the Chicago site.

Congrats Steve/GoYanks!

I interviewed 1/7 at Chicago too and my status changed this morning.

I interviewed second week of january... status: decision pending

Has anyone who interviewed in Rockford in January had a status change? Is it possible they update each interview site separately?

Sorry for the silly questions, but I'm going crazy with the anticipation!🙂

1/7 Chicago interview, still decision pending. Looking more likely to be a rejected / deferred email at this point. I'll post when I get something.

Grats to the others.

i called today to ask about decisions and the nice lady said that they were not finished but most likely by thursday they would be done, zipmedic could you verify?

Haven't heard that, but I'm by no means 100% sure. It could be that they do the continued e-mails tomorrow and Thursday; those are the more labor-intensive part of each month's processing.

Does that mean they have finished giving out their acceptances this month?

For those who have been accepted recently, have you received your CBC email?

If I'm right, then yes; they're done giving out acceptances for January. I've been wrong before, though. 🙂 It'll take 3-4 days for those accepted this month to receive their CBC e-mail.

Hey everyone, congrats to those who just got accepted and keep the faith those who are still under decision pending! If you're set or about set on attending UIC, search "UIC College of Medicine Class of 2013" on facebook and you can start meeting your future classmates as well as discuss housing arrangements, etc. Also, we're having a dinner in mid-March in Oak Brook (30 minutes west of Chicago) if you're interested!

hey zipmed just a quick question:

what does it mean if you have been decision pending for 4months, waitlist? do they actually re-review my app every adcom meeting? thankks

5 interviews - 4 holds/waitlists, 1 no response yet. Looks like I'll be waiting till the end for good news! Grats again to those that got good news.

********************

The Committee on Admissions of the UIC College of Medicine reviewed your application earlier this month. We wish to advise you that no final decision has been reached on your application, but that you are still under consideration.

Please note that the Committee reserves the right to withhold all final decisions until June 1st. You will receive another email later in the year to update you of your status in the process.

Just received that message as well. Of the people who have been accepted, has anyone been accepted after receiving this? Should I wait until June to hear??

Also, Zipmedic, thanks for always answering our questions. 👍

Does anyone know if a letter of intent would improve my chances at the next metting?

if anything, letters of intent do nothing but say i want to go to your school aka, who doesn't.

i tried one for this month's adcom meeting, and nothing prevailed. according to my resources, Dr. G and the adcom are selecting the best and brightest due to large amounts of people applying and large amounts of quality applicants.

additionally, many people are not rescinding their offers, which makes it harder for the adcom to dole out acceptances every month. they have to be more selective so that they do not over accept. but thats only according my resources, she/he could be bs'ing me....so take it all with a grain of salt.

It means you've been continued. They do review your application at each subsequent committee meeting. If at any point they reach a final decision, you'll be notified.

It happens. Keep the faith.

This is true but does not mean a letter of intent won't get you an interview. It's just incredibly unlikely to get you an acceptance at this point.

Good luck to those still waiting and to those accepted, congratulations! Perhaps I'll stop by your March dinner, if I'm invited. 😉

But of course... however you'll no longer be anonymous to us! I'll let you know the date and location when we're set.

Thanks for the response zipmedic!

I was down with the "keep the faith" line, but then your response below saying its "incredibly unlikely" to get an acceptance at this point made me wonder how much faith I would need to keep.

I meant that a letter of interest by itself is incredibly unlikely to net an acceptance that wasn't already coming to you. That said, nothing is ever out of the question, metaldoc, and I've been my share of wrong before. Stranger things have happened.

If you haven't sent a letter prior to being interviewed, it can't hurt so long as you have something substantive to tell the committee (something new in your research, a promotion at work, taking over leadership of an organization and having accomplished something, etc.).

Don't give up until you have a rejection letter in hand. Until then, everything is possible. 🙂

Hello,
Does anyone have any info on the urban medicine program? I am very interested in it but was wondering if anyone had any insights. Is it a lot of extra work? Does it limit your experience during rotations 3rd and 4th year? Also, how many people apply and how many do they take? I am interested in the idea of it but I'm wondering what it's all about. Thanks!

Thank you for your input and kind encouragement Zipmedic! I will (continue to) wait with hope. Good luck to all who will be doing the same.

It's official! Got the acceptance package/letter today!

I'm so excited. Now just to see where I'm assigned for site.

Good luck to those still waiting to hear back.

Congrats!! I hope you are able to go where you want!

I have an interview tomorrow at the Chicago campus. Could anyone please tell me where we are supposed to meet? I accidentally left the piece of paper at home, and I cannot find the information online!! Thanks in advance!!!

I called admissions today and the lady told me that the committee has made a final decision (pre-interview) and a letter will be mailed out to me. This means rejection letter -correct?
