So I interviewed on Jan 15 and called them few times but no news. Does it mean that I have not been reviewed yet or they are just taking their time to decide whether I am a good fit or not. I really like the school and my interview went extremely well. Please advise me as to what should I do. Should I write a letter of intent?

The AdCom only meets about twice a month (2nd and 4th Tuesday. I think?). They may take a few meetings to get to your particular file, and I'm guessing they've only had 2 meetings since 1/15. They don't release their wait list rank until some time in May, so there's enough time for them to get to you.

Oh, and a letter of intent can't hurt, if you do intend on going to UofL above all others.

Thank you for your prompt reply!! I love the school and will definitely attend if accepted. I will send them a letter of intent in the next day or so.

Congrats to all who have been accepted. I am getting ready to graduate from Louisville and I think that the program prepares you well for residency in any field. We'll have many students matching into the ultra competitive fields this year in addition to the more common specialties. If you have any specific questions feel free to PM me.

I will also throw in a shameless note about my house for sale. It is located less than a mile from the med school. You can see it on the following website

Hey, you live right by Bardstown road. Great bars over there...

Has anyone had a status update lately?

Looks like I'm doomed to wait another 2 weeks. Their last Ad Com meeting is the 4th Tuesday of March, right?

Also.. have any of you heard of ANYONE getting a waitlist notice or rejection yet?? I know people who interviewed there in early September that still have no word. Don't you think that's kind of crazy? You know they have to have met on them already, you know?

I just don't get a great feeling about how this process is run at U of L. At least UK was upfront with you!

Last cycle, I interviewed in October and didn't hear that I was on the waitlist until April or May (I can't remember). At my interview they said they were going to try to render decisions on candidates the same semester they interviewed, so that sucks they still haven't gotten back to September interviewees.

As far as the UK/UofL process comparison, I agree that UK's seemed a lot more transparent and without the unnecessary stress that UofL's seems to have.

Anyone have any word on people who haven't gotten interviews yet? I've been complete since Sept. Are they still giving them out?

When I interviewed, they said that the last ad com meeting would be the 4th tuesday of march. So, the last interviews should be next week?

However, I interviewed on a Thursday in Feb. and there were people there who had found out about their interview 3 days before hand-- another thing I am not impressed by.

It just seems like they are making an already stressful process more stressful. Ridiculous.

Yep...just got my pre-interview rejection, finally.
this process is so depressing. blahhhhh.

Hey guys!

I got my acceptance letter yesterday! Woohoo! 😀 Funny thing, though: the letter took so long to get to me that one of those army recruiting e-mails kinda let the cat out of the bag first (although I reserved proper enthusiasm for the official notification! 😀)!

Does anyone know, is the two weeks that you get from the date on the letter . . . and does everything have to be received by that date? If so, I need to get on the stick. My letter was dated March 12th.

When did you interview?

Did your status change on the website?

Sorry for the neuroticism! I blame them!

I understand the neuroticism - this was my first acceptance, so I was quite anxious also!

I interviewed on 1/21. My status page did change, but not on the Wednesday after the last committee meeting. Nope, it didn't change until Thursday (the 12th. I had almost given up hope for that week, but checked it on a whim that afternoon). So, don't give up hope this week if your status page hasn't changed on Wednesday - check it on Thursday as well. Also, note that it took the letter a week to get to me! (I'm OOS, though)

Good luck! :luck:

I interviewed on 12/10 and haven't heard a thing. CultureDoc got notice and he's OOS too. does anyone know if it's ranked or something. from what i understood at the interview it was a first-in first-out deal. very dissapointing procedure as this was my #1 but they didn't get back to me in time so i had to send $2000 non refundable deposit to a DO school. arggh. I'm totally stoked about that other school, but $2000 vs $200 (refundable),...

Congratulations!

I'd bet the two weeks is from when the letter is dated. They wouldn't have any way of knowing when the letter actually gets to you, so I'd bet they start counting from the date they do know. Just give them a call to let them know you just got the letter, and I'm sure they'll be cool with it.

What do you mean first in/first out?

As far as I know, the only people who had heard ANYTHING so far were all accepted.

I think today was the last ad com meeting, so they'll have to let us know after this right? That's what they said at my interview which was in early Feb. But still til May 15 (?) before waitlist rankings?

If it's like last cycle, the AdCom will send out a last wave of letters to everyone. A few acceptances, some rejections, and the rest are waitlist notifications. If you're on the waitlist, you'll have to wait until May 15th to know which third of the waitlist you're actually on. It's nice they let you know if you're on the waitlist before the 15th, but it does seem to prolong the pain a bit.

by first in first out i meant that those who interviewed earlier would be notified earlier, ie in the order that they interviewed. they didn't make it sound like only the acceptances would know in the 1 month turn-aruond they quoted. if that is the case, i guess it's pretty typical. maybe i just thought i did better than i actually did. here's to eating humble pie 😛

I hear that U of L is a terrrrrrrrrrible place.

Anyone with an acceptance should probably not go there. Yep. Hear it's a terrible terrible place.

aka: got the waitlist email today. 🙂

Here's some good voodoo vibes for top third of the list! haha

Aw, sorry to hear about the WL, beauregard. I have heard that there is quite a bit of movement (like half-ish of the list), so lots of luck to you! :luck:

Irish - so sorry to hear it's been so long for you. What I understood about the admission process at UofL, though, was that at each committee meeting, if you were discussed, you could either be rejected, admitted, or passed over until the next meeting . . . and then the next meeting you you could be passed over again, etc. What sucks about that is that you just never know if you haven't been discussed or if you've been discussed and they've passed on you until next time. My state school (Mizzou) was at least nice enough to tell you once a month whether your file had been considered and was still in contention.

:luck: to you - I hope you hear something positive soon!

P.S. - those DO schools totally suck with their non-refundable deposits. That REALLY bites. (and man, I would SO not have the money to do that!)

Thanks! Yep, I got on it, sent my stuff in, and got my Blackboard site access today (2-week mark!). Woo-hoo! I feel official now. 😀

I have a good attitude about the waitlist! Way better than a rejection!

And my mcat score was terrrrrrrible so I'm down! Just hoping to be in the top half-ish! 🙂

Good attitude to have! Your situation sounds about exactly what mine was last cycle. I ended up in the bottom half of the waitlist and retook the MCAT. I scored much better and got an acceptance this cycle. Keep hoping for the top half of the waitlist, but keep in mind that it can still happen for you if you don't get it.

No worries. I'm going to battle with the MCAT on May 2. I heard it's pretty scared already. 🙂

It seems like email was sent to all the students put on wait list on March 26. Did you get one? I spoke to admission office and was told that if your status has not changed then you will receive an email for wait list or a rejection letter in the mail.

I think that was the case.

I got a waitlist email, and my status still hasn't changed, even after I replied to accept a waitlist position.

But I know some other people whose status didn't change but they haven't heard anything still. 😕😕😕

So do we have to wait until May 8 to hear any good news or will they start offering acceptances as soon as spot opens up after April 3?

Why would spots open specifically on April 3 or May 8?

May 15th is the day you have to drop all but one acceptances to still get your deposit back, so that's probably the day that will see the most spots freed up around the country.

I don't know about April 3, but May 8 is the day that they are releasing the waitlist positions for some reason. I was surprised that it wasn't after May 15th too.

I doubt that they will give out many acceptances before then though, right? I'm not holding out any hope anyway. 🙂

The main reason of my statement was that people accept or decline offers all the time once they get their top choice school acceptance. Also based on the content of the email it sounds like they will start offering the positions once they receive all the responses.

I got my rejection letter yesterday and there was an entire paragraph talking about how I should consider their MPH program instead... seems inappropriate.

Man that sucks, but it seems like you're going to be happy at Arizona. You don't want to pay OOS tuition anyway. 👍

Definitely. I applied to UofL because I grew up in Louisville, graduated from St. X in '05. It would be kinda nice to move back there and be around the people I grew up with, but it would have been really expensive. AZ was my first choice all along so I'll be more than happy there 🙂

Well, sucks you won't be back here, but at least the weather in AZ is much nicer. 👍

Speaking of nice weather, it's really starting to get warm here. Anyone torn between UK and UofL should consider that Louisville has some really good places all within walking distance. Just sayin...

Have you decided, LossForWords?Any thoughts? It would be nice if UofL will freeze OOS tuition, the school would not confirm it.

Oh, I've decided on UofL (hence the avatar). I just dig the city more and I'm trying to break out of a family mold a little bit. Lexington is great and all, but I feel like Louisville is much more conducive to the kind of life I want to lead in med school.

I will be withdrawing this week so at least one spot will be opening up for those of you on the waitlist!! Good luck guys, I loved UofL but am out of state and my financial aid package is awful...

Who's tired of waiting for May 8 to find out your place on the waitlist?

:hello: <--- this is me saying: "Me! Me!"

This is what this process feels like. And I'm the banana. :diebanana:

Hi guys,

First post, but i've been following the thread for awhile now.

I know the waitlist rankings were supposed to be released today by 5pm. My status hasn't changed. Anyone else with the same situation?

Mine changed. Middle third. So the wait continues! And... what now?

Anyone get good news?

Been put in the top third of the waitlist. Is there any historical data on number of people accepted off waitlist and from how hi/low in the rank they get?

If I'm remembering correctly from what Ms. Osbourne said at my interview, since she's worked there (15 years or so) the top third of the list has always gotten in. And in most years, the top half has gotten in. So.. I'd say you're most likely in a good place!

Congrats!

But.... as someone who's in the middle third, I'd say you probably don't want to go there. Louisville's awful awful awful, right?!?!! 😍

Man, middle third has to sting because it's just more hurry-up-and-wait. Top half always gets in, bottom third rarely gets in, but the middle still isn't really an answer. Just more waiting. Good luck! :luck:

Yeah I don't doubt middle third stings, but at least there is a shot. I can tell you though that the strong likelihood of rejection in the bottom third has a sting unique unto itself. I'm beginning to think that the fates thought I needed to enroll in humility school rather than medical school because all I've gotten so far is a large dose of humble pie. Well I suppose that is how it goes sometimes... (I am actually quite an optimistic person, despite my tone, LOL)

Good luck and patience to all my fellow waitlisters!!

How long does it take to hand out acceptances to those in the top third?

That's exactly right. I'm already preparing to reapply, so really I feel like I would have almost rather just had some kind of certainty-- no matter what it was, you know?

I'm a big kid. With a big kid job. And big kid responsibilities. It would be nearly impossible for me to pack up and move if I found out I was in like 2 weeks before classes started.

Any ideas on how quick notifications go out to the waitlist?

I am also in OOS top 1/3. I don't have any acceptance as yet from anywhere. What are my chances and how long do I have to wait? Do they call, or send the acceptance by snail mail or email? Thanks!!

I'm almost 100% sure they only notify by snail mail. I would image the biggest flurry of letters going out will be soon after the 15th with it tapering off from there. I think most of the movement happens before the middle of July, but there are always exceptions. Good luck!
