I interviewed on October 30th, and was accepted on the 25th, if that helps.

Thank you for making the holidays a hundred-times less stressful, Toledo.

Hi all! I have been reading on this thread, trying to guess when I will get an interview to Toledo if I do...I am starting to worry A LOT. Do you guys know when they stop inviting people for interviews or if a instate 29MCAT/3.7GPA applicant has a chance?? Maybe I was delusional this whole time...😕

Based on numbers alone I can't imagine why they wouldn't give you an interview.

are you OOS, i havent gotten an interview from them either

First off before I state my question, I don't mean to be presumptuous nor arrogant, I recognize that my MCAT is average. Having this said, I am an OH resident, completed UCs SMP with respectable grades and was counting on Toledo as a highly probably interview. My volunteerism is appreciable, although not as extensive as some of the people I see on SDN. Has anyone else not heard a word from them and thought that maybe they would have?

3.5 undergrad Biochem, SMP 3.93, 30P, application complete late August.

Any insight would be appreciated.

i actually have a question rather than an answer for you(sorry🙂). i was considering SMPs, looking at Toledo and UC specifically. I have 3.7 cum, 29MCAT and average ecs. Were you in the same boat? What did you think of the SMP, how was your experience? Are you having any luck with the degree?

...How low is your sGPA? I don't think you need to do a SMP with a 3.7 gpa. It'd probably help more to either retake your mcats or improve your average ECs. Sorry, I know that's not what you were asking the other poster about, just throwing my opinion out there.

i definitely didn't "expect" an interview from toledo, but i thought i had a good chance. 3.50 cgpa, 3.40 sgpa, 34 mcat. decent ECs but OOS

For those who have interviewed, have you found it to be more In-State students than out?
I have had my application complete at UT for some time now and haven't heard from them.

I'm thinking about calling them tomorrow to get an application status.

Would it help to send another letter of recommendation from a UT graduate, even after the ones I submitted? Your thoughts?

At my interview it was a pretty even split between IS and OOS, there were about 8-9 interviewees and I think there were 4 of us OOSers.

I interviewed on a Monday though, I imagine Monday is one of the more popular interview day choices for OOS students.

Mostly ISers at mine.

i just got a continue to review email (pre-interview). anyone else?

hey i did too! are you taking this as a positive or negative sign? i was leaning towards positive since they haven't outright rejected me.. also it said that they would send snail mail soon regarding the decision, what does that mean? i thought they just emailed you if you got an interview?

I don't think it means anything. They are just being nice and keeping us informed. I don't believe that they have rejected anyone pre-interview yet... from the email, it seems that will start happening at the end of February (by snail mail). Good luck.

Same here. I am also going to go on a limb and say that they sent the invites to only a small group of people withing the large "waiting to be interviewed" group...or so I hope.

uhoh, i did not get this email >> probable rejection i'm guessing. can someone post the email?

Yeah, seriously. They wouldn't go out of their way to say "hang on, we haven't forgotten about you" if they were already planning on rejecting us. I just took it as a "you weren't at the top of our list, but that doesn't mean you're off our list, we just haven't decided what to do with you and appreciate your patience"-type email.

Or it could mean "You'll get your rejection letter in late-Febuary, so stop calling/emailing us so we can focus on the important people." 😀

Here is the email:

Greetings!
Your application for admissions to the University of Toledo College of Medicine is still under review for an interview decision. We are scheduled to interview through mid-April and expect most interview decisions to be made by late February. The committee is working diligently to thoroughly review all of the files in a timely manner and we ask your patience as we have received a record number of applications this year. All applicants will be notified of a decision by regular mail as soon as possible. Thank you for your continued interest in the University of Toledo. If you are no longer interested in attending UT, please let me know otherwise, it is not necessary for you to respond to this email.

When I saw the "Greetings!" in gmail I almost had a heart attack. blahhhh.

thanks havehope. has anyone else not received this email?

check your spam filter. after checking your mdapps, I can almost guarantee you got it.

I got it and I'm OOS with a 3.63 and 26R. I would bet my life on it that this email means nothing. it was not emailed to only a small group who may be interviewed. I bet you anything they sent it to every applicant who has not been granted an interview yet. has Toledo even rejected anyone yet? I doubt it. it's just a courtesy email. call them if you want to know the definite answer...and please post that answer on here because now you guys got me thinking maybe is this some form of good news.

hey guys just to let you know i had a semi freakout and called sandy hassell once i received the email to make sure this wasn't some polite way to let us know we were about to be rejected via snail mail... i asked her if it meant that my application was being re-reviewed and she said she didn't know. hope this helps...

has anyone been rejected yet? or is there anyone who has not received this email who also hasn't heard word from toledo?

also i agree...when i said greetings my mind warped and thought it said congratulations haha!

The timing of the email we all have been receiving came as a shock since i just posted yesterday night about how I haven't heard anything from them.
What a coincidence!

I agree with Utahjazz; just a way for them to communicate that we won't be hearing anything good or bad from them being that it's the end of the year aka holiday season aka what it typically referred to as the "first half of the application cycle"

At least this is how I interpreted it!
But if you look at that email--- those of you out there that have been accepted to other schools and not even considering UT, you should probs email Sandy and tell her because I really want an interview there since it's so close to home!

i did check my spam filter. i can't call. what am i supposed to say. so ... on sdn i read that you sent out this email, i didn't get it. what does that mean?

For what its worth, I think Toledo is responsive to letters. In the same envelope with my secondary, i included a letter. I figured I had less of a shot since I'm a California resident. But I was born in Toledo and have lots of family there. I did get an interview and I LOVED the school.

So email or no email, if you're really interested let them know! I'm anxiously waiting my decision which won't be mailed out until January. Time goes by so slowly...

I agree...although I have yet to receive an interview invite I sent them a Letter of Intent a few weeks ago. Also I agree with the preceeding posts: if you have no interest in UT please please please email Sandy!

hahaha the preceding post was me.
But I hate to sound naïve, but what is exactly do you mean by letter of intent. I always took it that a LOI was for after an interview; the form of communication to accept the admission offered to a student?

Is that not correct? I think I'm going to try to send a letter of rec from a graduate of UT. It's my first choice and I want that point to come across via a letter from a graduate who, one, knows me and two, knows my desire to study at this school/work in the area.

For you LOI, what kind of info did you put in it? I'm guessing you sent it snailmail? PM if it's necessary because i really want to recieve an interview from UT

i got an interview invite a few days ago but im withdrawing my application. Good luck everyone! :luck:

I didn't send a letter of Intent, but rather of Interest. I just wanted to let them know that I had ties to the state because apparently every medical school hates Californians (especially California schools). A letter of intent states that you want to go there for sure, and you will if you are accepted. I have sent a couple pre-interview letters simply expressing my interest in the school, noting specific programs they have that I would like to take part in or specific ties to the community around the school. It doesn't hurt to be persistent, especially if you are interested. I also think email tends to work best, especially if you ask them to print it out and add it to your file and attach it. I sent mine snail mail to UT because I sent it in wiht my secondary. You can also send updates to schools to let them know you are still interested as well

no you're totally right i just kind of went out on a whim and sent a sort of letter of interest...i actually emailed it as an attachment along with an unofficial transcript because i'm currently in an mhs program (i'm constantly emailing back and forth with sandy--i'm sure all of you are). i just wanted to make it clear that i wasn't applying for the sake of it but i was applying because i was geniunely interested in the school.

I know that UC has heightened it's entrance standards for the SMP significantly, so much so that the MCAT you need to get into the SMP would also get you in medical school. SMPs are geared toward helping students who suffer from low undergraduate GPAs.

It may help to read my MDapps page. I liked my classmates and made some med student friends. It is a huge commitment in terms of studying, pretty much like first year of medical school. You must realize that there is no time to work nor screw around. It is a double edged sword, doing good in the program may give you a huge boost but doing poorely in the program may only confirm admissions committee suspicions about one's capabilities.

Any luck with the degree? Not in yet. I have 5 interviews so far though that I don't think (in fact I would bet) that I would have gotten without my M.S.
Hope this helps.

i'd definitely look into changing your SDN status 😉

no prob- it is a 3.3-3.4 (probably a 3.4 by graduation) and i am from Ohio

Brentb23,
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, that double edged sword is EXACTLY what i have been worried about. I think I speak for all of us when I say that medical school application process really makes one doubtful or at least question our own abilities. The waiting is horrible. I would really like to know some more information about your experience, would you be okay with email perhaps? I will PM you mine (I am kinda new to SDN, so Ill try my best). If you dont have time, I completely understand. Thanks a bunch, and GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

I got that e-mail, too. I applied pretty recently (complete around 12/8), but I'm done with school and on break in the area. I contacted them (phone) about a possible interview (12/15) before going back to school and a person in the admissions office said she would send my file to be reviewed by the ADCOM.
I got an e-mail interview invite yesterday.

So, basically, the status update e-mail doesn't mean rejection, to anyone thinking that. It's quite possible that your file hasn't been reviewed yet; you might want to contact them to learn more.

Yeah I got my interview by an "in the area" email. They got back to me the next day. They are so nice! I won't hear back until January, but if I can't stay in California, I am definitely going to UT (if I'm accepted of course).

So get in touch with them!!! They are very responsive :luck:

What did you say on the phone? I'm in the same boat as you and will be returning to Ohio for the holidays..granted I'll be home for an entire month. I was actually thinking of driving to UT to drop off my latest transcript...

Woo hoo! Accepted today! I LOVED UT and am really stoked about this!
:soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:

I'm wondering if I should lie and tell them that I'm going to be "in the area" even though I'm not. I guess we'll see if it works. :meanie:

^^That would be pretty lame! I actually received an invitation to UCincinnati med school yesterday and emailed both Toledo and Case Western (I was on hold there) that I'd be in the area. Case Western emailed me back saying they did a final review and will not be interviewing me this year, and Toledo emailed me back saying they will try to speed up the admission committee's decision!

I've been meaning to ask this question for a while - any help would be appreciated.

Along with the acceptance letter, there was an Ohio residency application. I am from Ohio (born and raised, etc...), so I know I will be classified as a resident. The problem is that this application is so dam long. Do I have to fill it out just so I can recieve an accurate financial aid packet? Or do they send that residency application to everyone? Most likely, I am not going to Toledo, but I would change my mind if it was financially worth it, which is why I am really interested in that financial aid packet. I don't have a problem filling it out if I decide to attend, but I would rather make up my mind first about attending before spending a whole day filling this thing out.

:luck:

Any more new interviews issued since the new year?

Can anybody give a time frame on their interview-to-descision turn around time, they said four-eight which is kind of broad has anyone ended up on either side of that scale, or should I expect six weeks?
