they told us during the financial aid presentation that the school comes up as univ of vermont school of agriculture or something like that.

they said not to worry, that was the old name of the school and medical admissions will receive your file regardless

Thanks! I was wondering why I couldn't find UVM COM!

I just used 003696. It's the only one listed for UVM, well at least I think 😉

Ohhhh UVM why do I love you so.
Interviewed last week, now just waiting for some love (or something other than love). Of course I did totally fall for the curriculum/campus/downtown as anticipated, so now it's just a matter of bracing myself.

So my interviewer was telling me about how they assign a point value to all the different aspects of your application (your experiences, GPA, MCAT, interview, recommendations... etc.) and I'm wondering this:

Does an applicant already receive scores for everything but the interview and then get invited based on those scores, with a final decision weighing mostly on how that pre-interview score and the interview score add up?

Any thoughts? Did anyone else hear about this from their interviewers?

Oh - and for all you with upcoming interviews/still waiting for an invite: in the presentation they said "there are still a large number of spots open in the class" and also that last year they accepted 220 for the 100 person class, so there should be lots of late waitlist movement (maybe due to the high tuition, as others have noted). So, yay!! 🙂

I interviewed mid Feb and we were told that the admissions committe was going to meet sometime in March to determine our fates. Anybody know when they will be meeting again and when we can expect some news?

You might hear bak even sooner. They told me like 4 to 6 weeks and in 2 weeks my status updated.

Does anyone know the average step 1 score for UVM? I'm just wondering how the VIC affects their board scores...

Dunno about numbers, but http://www.med.uvm.edu/admissions/TB20+BL.asp?SiteAreaID=597 says they're consistently "at or above" national averages.

Honestly I would expect usually above... though it's probably harder for profs to teach the VIC, I bet it's a lot easier for students to retain all the knowledge.

Yeah, the way I see it, as long as they score average or above thats good. After all, its the student who takes the boards, not the school. As long as the school average isn't below the national average, we know that the curriculum is up to snuff.

The rest is up to the student.

Addi and the Vermont thread have been awfully quiet lately!!

Anybody know when financial aid packages come out? The website vaguely says "spring."

Edit: Considering this is New England, perhaps by "spring" they mean never!

Ummm, I know. Where did everyone go??? This thread being so freaking bumpin' was like half the reason I applied to this school. I'm just kidding. But seriously, where is everyone? Is no one else having nightmares about the OAC?

For me it's just been so incredibly long without anything happening (int. in sept) I just can't bring myself to care as much anymore. Not that I wouldn't be ecstatic to get in, I just can't be anxious on a regular basis at this point while I wait. I think they must be approaching oos-ers differently than in the past, given that there has been so little movement from the waitlist, unlike in past years where you'd hear about a steady stream of oos-ers getting in.

Hello All! I'm still around...I've just been one of those creepy lurkers as of late. But I am glad to be missed (thanks scrubs)!

I am still incredibly excited about UVM COM and am counting down the days till I quit my job (May 31st) and enjoy summer before intensity starts.

I haven't heard anything about second look yet and I guess it's because not all final decisions have been made but I'm really excited about it and hope to meet a few of you there!

Oh and I'm already apartment hunting FYI. You can never start too early.

And BTW, I was this close to making a facebook group for UVM COM Class of 2013 but then didn't because I don't know how many people have actually made their decisions yet.

Hope everyone is doing well! Hang in there! I know quite a few OOSers from 2012 didn't hear until May/June. So it can be a long haul, but well worth it!

As always I'm available for any VT/Burlington questions!

Glad you haven't disappeared on us, Addi.

Just got the e-mail about second look! It's on May 8 and sounds awesome - I'll post the info here:

We have set the date for our annual Closer Look Day for accepted applicants for May 8, 2009 and we hope you can join us. You'll have the opportunity for an inside look at the UVM College of Medicine -- up close and hands-on. Come and experience the Vermont Integrated Curriculum first-hand, through activities including working with standardized patients, and an in-depth tour of COMET. You will tour and meet with physicians from our primary clinical partner, Fletcher Allen, as well as learn more about financing your medical education, and hear how students manage life outside of medical school (not only possible but encouraged!).

I'm really sad I won't be able to make it because I have another Second Look the same day 🙁

I just got the second look info as well! And they finally let us know when orientation will be! August 10!

Woohoo! Just got mine too! I'm excited and will definitely be there provided I can get the day off from work. It sounds really fun!

So Keek are you set on going to UVM or are you still in the decision making process?

Scrubs, you'll be missed!

Anyone else planning on going?

Oh my, this suspense is just killing me. Anybody know how long I should expect to wait after a mid Feb interview?

Have any interview invites been going out lately? I would love the chance to interview here and am hoping there are still some dates left!

I wouldn't hesitate to call Patrick just as a casual inquiry. He's always been incredibly friendly and helpful.

We should hear back by March 24th.

Did you get that info from the admissions office? And do you know if that is for everyone who has interviewed so far or just people from your interview day?

Ya, this came from the admissions office. I'm not sure if this applies to everyone that has interviewed thus far, however. My interview was mid Feb. I'm assuming that this date applies to all those who interviewed in Feb (and havent heard back yet) and probably those who interviewed in the beginning of March.

I interviewed mid-February as well and the school truly solidified as my top choice then and there. I also really liked everyone that interviewed that day.

It was a great group to say the least and I wish everyone the best of luck!

Awesome Bombas! I'm so glad you felt that way! That's the exact sentiment I had after interviewing there. The school/curriculum/students/faculty/staff are all so amazing and I am thrilled with the opportunity to start in August!

We should hear back by March 24th.

Do you think that means today? I'm nervous!

Edit: I just checked and my status changed from interview to out-of-area waitlist. Yay! I hope everyone else gets some good news today.

I got waitlisted as well.

Fingers crossed really tight now!

Out of Area waitlist as well. Do most OOS people get placed on this waitlist?

We were all OOS on the mid-February interview, so I'll take it as a gain.

Who are you guys? Haha -- I picked up two face-up pennies that fell out of Patrick's pocket for good luck, anyone remember?

I just got the Out of Area waitlist message today too. I guess that's a good thing!?

Do you guys think we're looking at May to hear more?

Does anyone know if there's any chance of learning more sooner or if in the past there's only been movement during May/June??! :xf:

Does anyone want to chime in about how this really goes down, or am I left with my UVM interviewer's advice that, "If you don't hear back by July, it's probably not happening." (He said that with a straight face, by the way!)

Help!

FAME (Maine) waitlist

:xf:Fingers crossed--I LOVE this school!

What gives here? I only know of one person coming off the OOS waitlist (Keek) and one person being accepted outright (shnuffles) since January. Otherwise, it seems that everyone else has been waitlisted. When exactly are they planning on filling the class????? 😕

Hang in there guys. I'm no UVM COM expert but what I do know is that virtually every OOS applicant is first placed on this OOS waitlist. So it's definitely NOT a bad thing.

I also know that there was a large surge of movement from the waitlist last year in May. I'm not saying that you'll have to wait that long to know but that this was true of last years applicant group.

Good Luck to all!

I am sure they are just trying to get their 40-ish Vermonite acceptance deposits before they start sending out OOS acceptances.

Are people being rejected? Or is EVERYBODY put on the OOS Waitlist?

I like to imagine you all having the same experience as me over the last 24 hours. It goes something like this:

You: I just got waitlisted at UVM
Your friend/mom/significant other: Oh! That's... awe...some? awful?

And then you both stare at each other for a few seconds trying to figure out from the other's facial expression if it's good news or bad news.

I do know of people who have been rejected. I wouldn't be able to speak intelligently about numbers but I have come in contact with some.

There have been a bunch of PRE-interview rejections, but--with the caveat that my only info comes from this thread--it seems that post-interview rejections are fairly rare. They do happen, though: I know I've read about one or two here.

Of course, it could be that a larger number of interviewees are rejected than we think, but haven't posted here. It's pretty understandable: people are much more eager to report positive news than negative news.

That's hilarious. I've seriously had exactly that same conservation several times now! 🙂

I'm thinking the OOS waitlist is going to see a lot more movement at the end of April when they "complete our interview and review process" - who knows why it's different this year, and it completely sucks, but that's my guess.
