I want to go here so bad! Any news about waitlist movement?

Yea vermont has been super slow with waitlist, I wonder whats going on.

I love how excited Addison is about UVM! I am totally with you.

My status just switched from the "further review" to the "may message". I can't remember when I submitted, but it was probably in November. Or was it October? Hmm...:xf:

how does the waitlist normally work, is it rolling or do they waitlist everyone and review again after they have finished interviewing. It seems like not too many ppl have been accepted so far.

In past years it was rolling, and Patrick says it still is, but yeah, this year seems to be proceeding differently. 🙁

Do y'all think I should consider an interview in March to be a waitlist-only interview?

Hey guys! I interviewed at UVM a couple weeks ago and absolutely loved the school. Just wondering, where online can you find your status changes? Also, at the interview, they mentioned that we would be hearing something back around the middle of Feb. Do they generally run on schedule for these things? Thanks and good luck to everyone!:luck::xf::luck:

pretty much all UVM interviews are waitlist only, they seem to waitlist everyone and accept as they go along. So its a slow process.

I havent heard anything form vermont for 3 months... guessing a rejection.

Has anyone had any luck with in the area or letters of interest to get interviews?

really love this school and would love an interview

I'm convinced a letter of interest is how I got my interview invitation at UVM. I sent it in and within a week I was small pooled and two days later I received an interview invitation. If you're really interested in the school it can't hurt. I'm also not sure if it's going to help that much this late in the season unless you've already been small pooled.

Hope that helps! UVM is an awesome school and I'm so excited to start this coming August!

Small pooled for lots of months now... think there are still interviews being tossed around, or maybe they just forgot to reject me?

PS anyone else having issues with the OAC right now?

But how did you go about sending the letter. I think, if I remember correctly, Patrick recieved it and said that they don't take updates.... or maybe I'm lying. I'm in between classes right now at school and can't look up my email threads with UVM. But, in any case, did you just email it (addressing it to Patrick) or snail mail it (adderessing it to Admissions)?
😕

I talked to Patrick in the fall and he told me to email it to the med admissions email address found on the OAC (don't know it off the top my head). He then sent me an email letting me know the letter had been placed in my file.

Also I addressed it to the admissions committee. They are the ones who make the decisions so it better be to them! 🙂

Hope that helps! Good luck! UVM is a great school and I hope you get some positive feedback!

Disregard my last post... my OAC was messed up because they were switching me from small pooled to interview. SO EXCITED

Any words of wisdom from those in/already interviewed?

Words of advice: Of course look at the interview feedback section of SDN. Really helps. But what I think UVM COM is really looking for are people who are a)really passionate about medicine/health care and b) that you really are interested in moving to Vermont.

Being a California state resident myself I think it was really important to drive home how much I like Vermont, particularly Burlington, as well as how important it is to me to study medicine in a state like VT.

I'm a west coast girl who is currently living in Burlington. So if any of you have questions about Burlington or Vermont in general I'd be more than happy to address them. Also, I know quite a few M1s and some M2s, so I can also give a little bit (though not much) of feedback about COM as well.

Me too. I emailed an LOI about a week after I was marked complete; I was small pooled 3 weeks later, and invited for an interview the following day.

I interviewed early in January, and now I'm biting my nails waiting to hear if I get in. (Pleeeeeeeeease ...) I loved the school--it's definitely my #1 choice.

P.S. To the person who thought UVM doesn't take updates, they do--just keep them short and to the point. (That's what they told us at my interview day.)

Hey guys,

is UVM the school that considers NH residents? I haven't been able to find any info on that...

As far as I'm aware, the only school that gives any special consideration to NH residents is Dartmouth--which tries to give approximately 5-7 of their positions each year to in-state folks.

I'm not aware of any special consideration UVM takes for NH (other than if you get an interview they might think you were more likely to come given your geographic proximity).

UVM's special considration for Maine folks comes from the fact that the state of Maine pays money to UVM to take a certain # of their state's students.

NH does not provide any financial incentives for other schools to take its students--and thus, NH is one of the hardest states to have residency in and get into medical school.

Take this from a former NH resident, who was not very sorry to give up residency there for this process!

:luck::luck: with the process

Thanks Addison!! All really great advice. I know a few people in Burlington but will definitely have to brush up on my VT trivia. I'm a New Englander all the way so it shouldn't be too much of a stretch.

I've been hoping for this for so many months, I seriously fist-pumped when I saw my new status (and again when I got the email, haha).

I was just small pooled today after being complete since mid Sept. wow. Anyone know how full they are/how many interviews are left?

I got an acceptance offer via email yesterday (2/10) afternoon! So excited! I'm out of state, interviewed 10/7 and was eventually placed on the out of area/alternate list, until now.

do you mind me asking what your stats are and if you sent any update letters? i really want to get of the waitlist here!

Congratulations! It's good to know there's some hope for waitlisted OOS students. I just got waitlisted today myself (interviewed 1/6). UVM is my top choice and I'd really, really love to go there.

I sent a few letters, and I'm inclined to think that helped a lot, tho who knows. I sent letters of interest (basically saying what in particular I liked about the school and why I'd fit in well there) to the ad. com. and to my interviewer (we got along pretty well, I thought). My interviewer said he forwarded my letter to the ad com (so don't write the same things if you write two letters!) Then I waited a couple of months and sent a second letter of interest/update letter just to the ad. com. (Jan 19, I think). I got a 35 on the mcat. Good luck -- I also really loved this school!

Congrats shnuffles!!

Hey is anyone else interviewing next Tuesday also?

My last interview group was completely without any SDNers and it kind of broke my heart. The admissions people said "and we do make an effort to read the SDN interview feedback and incorporate it into what we do here" and it was just 10 blank, confused looking faces. I'm thinking it won't be like that at UVM.

Good Luck Raraxavis! I hope you enjoy your interview day! I know I did!!!

Thanks! My gpa is abysmal, so I'm not sure why they're letting me interview... but I'm definitely not complaining. My biggest worry is that I'm going to totally fall in love with the school (and Burlington - so my kind of town). My car got stolen this week so I'm really ready to get out of the city and back into a nice, middleofthewilderness crunchyville.

I'm really sorry about your car!! That's awful... If you want crunchyville, I think you will fall in love with Burlington... and honestly, of all the schools I visited, UVM was the prettiest hands down. The hospital is gorgeous. GOOD LUCK!!!!!! They're so nice there, so don't stress at all.

Wow I just got an interview invite from UVM for March 10th. I thought I was getting auto rejected for being an OOS applicant. I haven't heard a peep from them until this morning. 🙂

Haha thanks for your sympathy, the car was costing me ridiculous sums of money every month between parking and all the break-in repairs (there's nothing like living on the wrong side of the tracks!) so maybe this will be a good thing.

And are you sure... prettier than Worcester? 😛

Well come on now, nothing's prettier than Worcester!!

Also, as a side note, I interviewed in Burlington in Vermont so I got all the foliage views... gorrrrrgeous. (A girl at my interview also asked: is it safe to walk around Burlington? ...she was from Chicago. We all cracked up for awhile.)

Its so safe in vermont that my host left his apartment unlocked all day so i can get back in without keys. Coming cali i was shocked and paranoid all day

i fell in LOVE with vermont. omg...i'm praying i get in...

does anyone know what the stats are at this point? how many interviewed, how many accepted, waitlisted, rejected. and of course how many students the school plans to accept?

So I've interviewed at harvard, hopkins, columbia and UCSF and I just got rejected pre-interview from vermont.... 😕 what a damn crazy and random process. I was looking forward to visiting vermont too. oh well.

They probably thought you wouldn't go there anyway even if you got in because of your excellent credentials and their tuition.

I'll probably be canceling my interview, so maybe someone will get a late March slot pretty soon. 🙂
