The same thing happened to me. They told me to call a week after I got my interview invite to see if there would be available slots. I checked online the next day and found one open.

The interview seems easy to handle. It's 1-on-1 for 1 hour or so. After we were done with the usual questions (why medicine? why VCU? what have you done to prepare for medicine? etc.. ), my interviewer and I ended up chatting about random things from Obama to day laborers to (oddly enough) German cars, especially VW/Audi.

Also, I saw your earlier post with your stats. I've heard that VCU heavily favors VA residents, so it looks like you're in a good position. I'm from MD, and I have pretty poor stats, so I'm really doubting my chances (even with my interviewer helping me out).

Good luck on your interview.

Thanks so much!! Considering right now this is the only chance I have, hopefully it's a good one. And don't get your hopes down just because you're OOS. If there's one thing I've learned about this process, its that you just never know what might push you over the edge.

Yea the interview date thing is kind of weird though, because they never told me to check for another date, nor did I try to change it. They just moved it up for me- although I'm certainly not complaining. Just ensures they have enough time to let the committee review it before March 15.

I'm glad to hear the interview is laid back. Besides, if I get the same interviewer as you, I'll be golden- my Jetta TDI is phenomenal.

Nope, Feb 1. I've heard that they send out a mass email sometime in the afternoon/evening -- wouldn't that be a nice Superbowl treat?

Sweet! I'm so glad you like the school and city! It's a great program and a great place to live!

Under the "Quick Links" on the blue toolbar at the top of the forums, click on "Edit Your Details." Then just put in your MDApps profile number where indicated.

Thanks for the tip, Chad.

But how do I get an MDApps profile number? Is this something that I should have written down at the time I registered for the forum?

Hah, I am a total sellout of my favored team (steelers) for an acceptance. If they should lose for me to get accepted then so be it...heck, let both teams lose! I just want to get accepted here!!

From VCU
We anticipate making offers October 15, December 15, February 1, and March 15.

01/26/2009 The VCU School of Medicine's next set of offers for admission to the class matriculating in August 2009 will be on Monday Feb 2, 2009. You will be able to check your status for change after 6pm that day. The Admissions Committee has met to discuss your file. Your application is being placed on hold for action at a later date. We anticipate making offers October 15, December 15, February 1, and March 15.

Its Feb 2. I called the office yesterday with some questions and they told me to expect potential updates after 6 PM on Monday.

jaDud and hero, you're right. I just called to confirm. Status will be updated (for some people) on Feb 2nd, NOT Feb 1st!

BOO. I can't take much more of this! And work is going really slowly these days so i have nothing to do except nitpick at my LOI and freak out on SDN and MDapps.

So does this have any bearing for those of us who are on the "we are interested in you, but have to wait for interview slot to open"....or am I up a creek already?

Will my non-interviewing self have a status update to look forward to on Monday?

I copied this from their website: We anticipate making offers October 15, December 15, February 1, and March 15.

Well, I will begin my obsessive email checking on Sunday, and if I don't hear anything I will try to avoid despair until Tuesday morning.

Well status updates are sent at 6:04 pm so you just have to compulsively check it around that time on Sunday. If nothing happens, then check again on Monday.

Those are separate from other decisions. You could get an interview at any date.

If my interview time at VCU is from 10:00 - 11:00 am, could somebody tell me when I will be able to leave?

Thanks.

I need this information to schedule my airticket now.

Everyone is done at around 2:30ish on your interview day. Takes about 15 minutes to get to the airport, there really is no line because its such a small airport, hope that helps! Good luck on your interview!

Thanks a lot!!!!!!!

Just remember guys, it's really called MCV and the computer lab is CBIL (pronounced si-bull), NOT CIRC. Bastards changed the computer lab's name over winter break, but we all know better.

Use those two acronyms and you're good to go.

Wait, they changed CBIL's name? Why on earth would they do that? CBIL is so much easier to say than CIRC (unless it's pronounced like "cirque").

My sister said it it pronounced like "cirque"...

 I refuse to call it CIRC too-it's CBIL no matter what they say.

Anybody know what time they update the application statuses today? Pre-superbowl I hope?

I have a nagging feeling that they won't update 'til tomorrow. It's Sunday!!!

Haha they updated their admissions login page saying that we'll be able to check for any status changes after 6pm tomorrow (Monday)...

That's one advantage of being on the West Coast....6pm in Virginia rolls around alot faster here 😀

Today's the big day (maybe)! Good luck to everyone!

Does anyone know if OOS applicants are accepted at the same time as IS? By this I mean do they tend to admit more IS upfront and save OOS for the final acceptance date? I'm trying not to get my hopes up for an acceptance today, that way I won't be too disappointed when/if I hear nothing -- but no luck.

i think they accept roughly equalnumbers of OOS and IS but because less IS apply, it's a higher percentage. i find out today too, good luck!

Weeee, 8 hours until we may or may not hear anything! haha, good luck everyone!

:luck:

I hear today too... really nervous!! Good luck to everyone waiting too!! 😱

Just FYI, there will only be about 20 OOS applicants accepted today. This is because VCU does not over-accept prior to March 15. Also note that 400 OOS applicants will have been interviewed by next month. :scared:

Basically, I won't be holding my breath.

Well, my chances just went down the drain :lame:

I just went onto VCU's website and it says that they only accept 80 OOS. But, there are other sources that say 80-86 OOS matriculate, so that can't be right. Does anyone recall how many OOS acceptances VCU gives out (approximately)?

Where did that info come from?

It's correct that about 80 matriculate, because they admit like ~120 or so off the waitlist after March 15 and throughout the summer. However, the total number of acceptances given out on December 15, October 15, February 2, and March 15 will equal about 80 (i.e. ~20 per acceptance date), because VCU is one of those schools that doesn't give out more acceptances than it has seats prior to the formation of the waitlist.

But this is also assuming that very few people withdraw their acceptances after getting the notification on one of the above dates.

Is there any chance we will hear before 6 pm?! I can't wait!

There is no chance you'll hear anything before 6:04 pm EST. The system is automatically set to update at that time daily.

Also, here is the out-of-state admissions data from Fall 2007 (class of 2011): 4887 applied, 383 interviewed, 205 were accepted, 80 enrolled.
