no i didn't know vcu was on cbc?

The School of Medicine has recently become aware that our affiliated Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Central State Hospital are conducting finger printing and subsequent criminal background checks on all students rotating through their facilities. During these checks, several students have had positive “hits.” All positive findings are fully investigated by the Associate Dean of Student Affairs.
This year the Association of American Medical Colleges is developing guidance for Schools of Medicine on the issue of criminal background checks. The School of Medicine will remain in concert with the AAMC guidelines and therefore the School has deferred development of a final policy for Admissions until such guidance is available.
Current standards rely on the student’s self report in the application process through AMCAS. A copy of the School’s Interim Criminal Background Check Policy is available in the online Student Handbook. Please be aware of this policy prior to completing an application to the School of Medicine.

so i don't get it. from what i see, there isn't a background check YET. they just say in the future there might be. and they call you? i was under the impression the status just changes online?

Don't do that! Otherwise you won't get the email! That is how VCU notifies (I don't know if they do phone calls after, but the initial notification is an email telling you about your status change on the website)

I know a few people who received phone calls in December. It's just a nice touch and is an encouraging thing if a school is willing to call to make its offers rather than sending an email. But, you are correct. The email is the most immediate way to know. 6:04pm.

As far as I know VCU will only call if you applied MD/PhD or if it is very late in summer and they are trying to fill a last minute opening in the class.

15 mins to go! however, unfortunately i am not expecting an offer today, because i had emailed the dean and she said it might come by March 15th or May 15th based on last year's data. good luck everyone and congrats in advance to those who will get in today!

The dean gave you this information over email? I didn't think it was possible for them to disclose anything like that...

Just acceptances and rejections. No waitlist formed until post-march 15. No update means you're still on hold.

I also got an acceptance today! For all those curious, I interviewed in Nov and my stats are: 3.3 undergrad, 3.6 grad, 10/10/11 MCATs. Good luck to those still waiting!

Usually this holds true. There have been instances where they have rejected a few people at the bottom of the list-they try not lead you on if the waitlist is huge and you have no chance but it's not common to be rejected at that point.

Congrats to those accepted, and good luck to those still waiting. I know how it feels, believe me.

I'm getting a little tired of this ridiculous waiting... it's just hard to keep "waiting" when I've been waiting for such a long time now. It's really testing my mentality and patience... and now it's just turning into anger. I'm not sure how my situation will change by holding me in limbo-land for 1.5 more months since I've already been waiting for 3+ months, but whatever. Priority score, blah blah blah, I know.

Funkmonk: I looked at your profile. I went to school in Texas (Baylor) and I'm shocked you didn't get accepted by UTSA. UTSW and UTMB are GREAT schools. Have a few friends there who love it. And P.S. there are a lot of Californians in Texas and the ones I know love it... although disappointed with the beach.
