oh fudge it all.

i'm guessing if we haven't heard by now it's probably a waitlist/rejection +pity++

I'm willing them to send me an acceptance letter. So far, it hasn't worked.

Lawls, The Secret?

i've been trying that for the past 10 months... so far it hasn't worked hahaha. Let me know if you get any results, maybe i'm doing it wrong.

If that's the case, we're both doing it wrong. Maybe we should be talking to someone who was actually accepted.

Every time my email dings I get excited. But it has been an HOUR. This is the time when I feel like leaving angry voicemail messages.

maybe its by alphabet or amcas number and the computer hasn't run through all the names yet...wishful thinking

I keep trying to think of reasons too... I just keep circling back to "it must be bad." But I will probably sit in front of my computer all night until I get something.

Go ahead and log into the status website. It's possible that the email was somehow held up when it was sent out, but the website was updated at 6. That will tell you your current status accurately, and if it hasn't changed, it's not going to until the waitlist is set up.

I have been doing that religiously. Nothing has changed. Same message for the last ?? I've lost count of the number of months. The question remains: is VCU going to further test my mental status by possibly sending a rejection when I'm thinking I'm waiting for a waitlist spot? If we only had a crystal ball.

Thanks for the info... somethings better than nothing in that respect!

If nothing has changed, then go ahead and get some sleep tonight and wait until they put the waitlist together. Historically they have comprised the waitlist of almost everyone that hadn't yet been already rejected/offered a seat. It's possible that a rejection could be forthcoming when they create the waitlist (as there is no sense putting people with no reasonable chance of getting off the waitlist on it), but at least then you'd know that you didn't have a chance of coming off the waitlist and enduring all those additional months of torture.

And the other thing - the probability of getting rejected now is pretty low. Most likely you will be on the waitlist if you haven't been accepted today.

Thanks. I appreciate your help. I'll actually be at VCU in a couple of weeks, maybe by then I'll know and I can get a meeting with Whitehurst-Cook.

Good night all, and good luck!!

And keep in mind that people need to accept/reject the offers they just received within 2 weeks, so when people turn down spots more will be accepted. And there is usually a good amount of movement on May 15 once people have drop down to holding only 1 acceptance...AND VCU's waitlist does traditionally move pretty well. I was accepted 3 weeks before classes start 2 years ago.

Thanks. That's comforting. P.S. I might see you next Monday-- I'm teaching the female pelvic exam! Get excited!!

well, i'm glad to find out i'm not the only one freakin' out about a silly deadline.

i guess i'm joining the world of the waitlist? hooray for that.

hope you all do well,

the waiting is definitely the worst part.

good luck everyone

I am also waiting for the waiting list.

Could anyone tell me how many oos interview and acceptance last year?

Thanks.

This is non sense. I am about to give up on the whole med school thing, seriously. Why would your interviewer tell you in so many words that you are in, and then nothing.. Why would they give us an exact date and then just keep us hanging like that? why? why? whyyyy?

Im glad that Im not the only one feeling the same way though. Welcome to the glory of being pre-meds my friends..

They banned physical torture in prisons, but I really think this is worse...

arrghhh

I too am disappointed with the way VCU is handling this. Couldn't they have given us SOME indication that they considered our applications?

Let's look at it from their point of view and try to understand why they're doing this to us:

A friend once told me that in sports, "greatness is measured by the number of dreams you can destroy."

Perhaps this applies here???

so... is it just me or has no one else's status been updated?? it said that today after 6pm we should be able to see our final decisions, and i assumed that today was the last day they were announcing decisions, so whatever our final status is, it should have been updated by today (for everyoneeeeee). am i not correct?!?!?!

Edit: I just read some of the posts and since I wasn't logged on, all the timestamps on the posts were off by 3 hours. No wonder this thread seemed "inactive" after 6 pm... ok, so you all are assuming that if we haven't had a status update by now we're waitlisted? Hm... has ANYONE here had a status change?? :-/

Did they give out acceptances the same time as rejections? or are we expecting rejections as well?

....this is depressing...

For those of us still waiting, I found this on the VCU SOM website under FAQ. It was encouraging, so I thought I should share:

Why haven't I received correspondence from you yet, when my interview was months ago?
You should have received an e-mail within a few weeks of your interview, advising you to check the status page where you would be placed on hold or notified that we will not pursue your file further. For those on hold, no further correspondence will take place until we are ready to make an offer or place you on the alternate list.

To me that says we're either accepted or waitlisted. And from the info give earlier by current VCU students, that is, for the most part, true.

I hope this helps you guys... it gave me a glimmer of hope!

For those of us without a status change: we're basically still on hold.

This really just makes us suckers. Sad sad suckers. Funny that we chose this when we could have been cushy business majors.

AHHHH

i totally feel the same way. Anytime an interviewer comments something along those lines, i immediately feel sick and just KNOW that nothing good will come out of that school's decision.

It's like... i am so thankful for having the opportunity to interview... but ultimately if every SINGLE place is going to place me on a waiting list then really... that just sucks.

I really dunno how many times one can have their hopes completely crushed. This cycle of hope and despair is getting old real fast.

It's hard to be positive all the time ...

Bah. Sorry. i feel like a gross, immature, self-pitying whiner.

This really just makes us suckers. Sad sad suckers. Funny that we chose this when we could have been cushy business majors.

People having chosen that "cushy" business major are facing some pretty ugly reality right now. Hard pressed to find a job these days even for those with highly sought degrees - business is not one of those. The road to med school admission is tough, but look at the bright side: you could be unemployed with no prospects whatsoever.

I sense a lot of frustration and despair right now. Please do not speak in such ways and put yourselves down because of this. There is always hope and a chance to try again. Some people apply not one, twice, or even three times, but more and get into med school. Just because we've been waitlisted or rejected does not mean this is the end. Everything happens for a reason. There is a loving God guiding our lives and footsteps. Seek Him and He will lift you and honor the desires of your heart at the right time.

This is true. And well said. 🙂

all of you that are complaining and whining about the lack of information from VCU need to take a chill pill. VCU has gone above and beyond what most other schools do in terms of notifying and communicating with students. And all the talk about quitting your dream of medical school is worthless. if you're not prepared to take the lumps that come with applications then you shouldn't have applied in the first place.

i'm not saying this because i have a VCU acceptance (because i don't and i'm in the same boat as all of you) but if this is what you do then you should've been well aware of the risks before you embarked on this journey. there really is no real easy way to get into medical school so you just have to hang in there

but if you want to drop out by all means do so, it'll be beneficial to everyone else.

I think you just don't care about getting accepted to med school (partucularly VCU) as much as we do then, honestly. thanks for sharing your thoughts though. Just realize that people have different ways of handling things. If everybody were the same, the world would be super boring. By just encouraging people to drop out so it becomes beneficial to everyone else, shows your level of (or lack of) competitiveness.

Don't take thing personal, I am not trying to start a pointless argument that will take us no where here, but what you said was probably offensive to many people.

In any case, GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE 🙂. keep both your hope and chins up. It ain't the end of the world..

well actually, i do care about getting into VCU a lot. I greatly enjoyed my interview there and that school is one of my top choices. but not receiving an acceptance letter from them doesn't mean i'm going to complain and moan about them not treating us fairly. I mean, if you think VCU's correspondence is bad wait til you see Temple.

i just dont think its fair that people are blaming VCU and the people there for slighting them. Granted we all were anxious about that 6 pm deadline, but they've already been quite forthcoming with our status. Like an earlier poster said we should just chill and see what happens with the waitlist.

Just don't throw a tantrum when someone unexpected heads your way.

Phew i'm back now. Ok got that out of my system and good to go haha.

Guys we are all gonna be fine. The interviewees at VCU were some of the most genuine and good-hearted fellow people i've met. And i feel the same about most of you guys posting on SDN.

Maybe i'll call the office tomorrow and see whats up, if they can share any advice, etc.

*think positive thoughts* *think positive thoughts*

haha i swear you'd think i am trying to fly or something.

This is a forum on which students can discuss and share information about medical schools/getting into medical schools. This is what we are doing. I understand that you are frustrated with our discussion topics. The solution to that is to sit quietly and ignore it until you see something you wish to discuss. Some of us are (equally) frustrated and we will not apologize for that. The two things that will get you the farthest in medicine are compassion and empathy. I know this because I teach these communications skills at VCU SOM, EVMS, Duke, and many other schools, and their students are SCORED ON THEIR USAGE. Please keep this in mind when you enter medical school. Your lack of professionalism in the face of our frustration is noted, and will be obvious when you enter medical school.

Also remember that we may wind up in the same class, and you will be working very closely with us in many different situations. We will all be frustrated with one another at some point. But if we use our communications skills effectively, we will not be in the situation we are currently in.

And I will quote you jtse106 when I say,

"don't throw a tantrum..."

haha yes it does! I still am not sure why i chose it... it's really not the most fitting name haha.

I'm guessing you speak or understand Farsi/Dari/Tajiki/Urdu/Hindi?

i spoke with admission this morning, and was told that I did not make yesterday's offers, and they are working on compiling the waitlist, and we will know sometime next week if we are waitlisted or over and out.

hooray for more waiting.

to any of your that received acceptance, congratulations!

here is a big dose of good luck to all of us who are still waiting.. keep on waiting.. waiting for the world to change lol.. 😎

Yes, thanks! I hate calling on the day after the big news, because I know the phone probably doesn't stop ringing for days.

P.S. Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!! Perhaps we should all go out for some fun to take our minds off of waiting!

wow, i didn't know "Bahadur" had a meaning in Farsi/Dari/Tajiki...kinda cool how 3 other languages use the same word but i wouldn't understand any of 'em.

Does anyone know how many acceptances were given out last year from US News?? i know the year b4 it was 205 for OOS...

Scan through previous posts, I think I saw that information somewhere a while back.

Haha yea. There are a lot of similarities between Farsi and Urdu. Afterall, they use the same script . Oh and the Mughals, can't forget about them haha.

Hey it seems like we have a lot of CA people in here.

I've noticed the high number of Ca-ians also. At my interviews as well. Lots of Ca people going to med school I guess! All I ask is that you bring some sunshine with you if you come to Va.
