I'm not sure if I understand your question... But: Technically, no one is on the wait list yet. It is being formulated today. It is a possibility, maybe not a probability, that some people will be rejected instead of receiving a wait list spot. You will hear officially today. Everyone else is on "hold" until either WL or rejected today. I would assume 99.9% will be WLed.
 
I'm an M1 here at MCV and I just wanted to wish you all luck. I haven't followed this thread this year, but I was completely glued to last year's thread as I'm sure many of you are currently.

Everyone's circumstances are different but hopefully my story will give you guys some hope. I had decent stats (3.8 overall, 3.7 bcmp, 31 MCAT), but I applied late to med schools as I had a lot going on at work (I sent out my secondary apps in late oct/early nov). Anyway, I applied to 12 schools and ended up interviewing at 8 of them. After my interviews, I didn't hear anything but rejections and waitlist notifications until the middle of May. The worst part was getting a rejection letter from 2 different schools after an interviewer at each school had pretty much said something like, "you are exactly what we are looking for, I am going to recommend you for admission. I'll see you here next year". After those rejections, I was so sure that I wasn't going to hear any positive news, that I started filling out the AMCAS for the following year. Fortunately, from mid-may to early June, I got 4 acceptances.

It is a long and frustrating process that is dragged out much more than it needs to be. There will be waitlist movement at pretty much every school in the country. People will hold on to all of their spots as long as they can as they are waiting for financial aid packages. It sucks, but that's the truth. The good news is, that if you do end up getting on a waitlist, you still HAVE a chance.

I know it is hard, but just stay hopeful. If you don't get in this year, then try not to take a rejection personally (trust me I know how easy it is to do...). Even if your interview goes well, your interviewer can only do so much sometimes as they have to "sell" you to the rest of the admissions committee at most school.


Also, I'm sure that others have mentioned it already, but this really is a great school. The education is great and the class is diverse. Lots of really nice and very smart people make up my class and I’m sure the same will be true for next year’s class. Our national match rate for the graduating class was 96% (national avg is 93%). Also, our board scores are great.

This is good to hear. I'm glad it worked out for you and am crossing my fingers for a similar situation. I'm on two wait lists with no acceptances and am in a constant state of stress because of it. I'll just wait some more and hope! :scared:

Joke's on us... we chose it. Which makes it that much more comical. BIG SIGH. I say we all go out for a drink.
 
Waitlisted...oh the agony of waiting....


"Here is the information that you have been anxiously awaiting. While we regret that we are unable to offer you a place in the class immediately, we are pleased to advise you that you have been placed on our alternate list. We do anticipate withdrawals from the class over the next several months with the peak coming around May 15, when candidates holding multiple acceptances are asked to send their final acceptance to the schools. As you know, we do not give out any details on your rank on the list. Be assured we will notify you immediately when we are able to offer you an acceptance. In the event that we do not have sufficient withdrawals to be able to offer you a seat you will be notified immediately after our orientation, which is mid-August.

We are anxious to assure you that we found you to be a relatively strong candidate and that the large applicant pool is the primary reason that we are unable to make an offer at this time. If you are not accepted elsewhere, you should apply early this next summer even if you still remain on our alternate list. If you wait for final notification from us, it will put you at a disadvantage for the following year.

We would appreciate your completion of the Alternate List Form, which we have provided at the top of this page. It allows us to track your status and interest in our school. If you have been accepted elsewhere and do not wish to remain on the alternate list, you may withdraw your application by following the instructions on the Alternate List Form; it would be of great assistance if we knew which candidates are still interested in our school.

We expect you to use this form even later in the summer should you be accepted elsewhere and no longer wish to be considered. And I'll tell you what: I will just fall over if I'm waiting with such anticipation and I get one of those pleasant and cordial rejections! Wouldn't that be the icing on the cake!? At least I'm in a good mood about it!

wait listed... which is good news this time. Anyone know the size of the wait list? Or how many people usually come off of it? Do they give preference to people with no acceptances?

Good luck to everyone still waiting. Unfortunately, it will probably be semi-quiet between now and May 15th but as it gets closer people will start to drop acceptances and there is usually a good amount of waitlist movement on May 15-16. So good luck everyone!:luck::xf:

wonder if being accepted at a D.O. school counts to VCU as being accepted "elsewhere." What do you guys think?

I would say no, because it's a totally different application process. I would assume that they are referring to Aallopathic medical schools only, but that's just my guess.

In other news, I have been waitlisted as well. I guess it is better than being rejected but this is pretty much my only shot so I'm going crazy waiting!

And btw, all of you seem like really amazing people! I hope we can all get in and have a great time as the Class of 2013!!

Waitlisted here as well. I went ahead and put accepted elsewhere (with a DO acceptance). I considered that it's another application process and everything, but I think they want to know where you stand overall.

And to the rest of you, I've really grown attached to all of you despite the anonymity and the distance between us. I look forward to a medical school career and/or career in medicine with all of you!
 
Waitlisted. Holding on to two waitlist spots. Wow, I am not prepared to reapply-really hope I get accepted. Hang in there everyone and I'll try to follow my own advice too.
 
Definitely not looking forward to reapplying while still on 2 waitlists. No fun.
 
I have an idea 👍. This may cause a lot of grief/stress, but all of us who got waitlisted lets count off to see how many of us there are. :idea:

But the fact that they're actually taking into account whether we've been accepted elsewhere or not makes me feel slightly better/worse, depending on what they're doing with it. For a minute, I thought they were gonna bump up those who have no acceptances (since they're likely to actually come to vcu if accepted), but now I'm doubting myself and wondering if they'll bump down those who haven't been accepted anywhere (since this may suggest negative things about the applicant.... not making it anywhere?!). And ugh, all in all, stressing myself out.

From what I heard when I was applying they use it as another tie breaker if your ranking matches someone else, especially in the summer when they need to fill spots quickly-They take the person with no acceptances first because they know you'll accept the spot.

Really?! Great 🙁 Is it possible to change my acceptance status then? Haha. I like how the option for having another acceptance says "still be considered," but the option for no acceptances says "alternate list." I wonder if that actually means anything.
 
i was surprised to get waitlisted.....but only because i had (or at least i thought i had) withdrawn in early february!

any one else have issues using the online withdraw from waitlist thing? i was having probs with it and called them to have them remove me (again). i just hope it happens this time around.
