sorry to hear that.. when were you approved by the way?

rejection! bah. (Complete on 7/14; GPA/MCAT around the mean for the school)👎

Jeez! So many rejections.

Btw, I've given up posting on SDN because any time I'm not on for even just an hour pages of convo show up. lol

I've reverted back to being a lurker.

Aw, I kinda think it's a interesting break in the high stress questions that pop up. I mean, I guess it would be annoying if you're just looking for info. I think it's funny to read, but then I can't really say much because there's always so much backstory.

I don't even glance at the Class of 2014 thread. lol No point! No matter what new message from that forum I receive in my e-mail, the topic has already changed at least 3 times by the time I get to SDN. lol

I think it's mainly camaras2480 and BlueElmo--they have been cluttering up the forums with their off-topic chit-chat and flirting over the last couple of weeks. It's super annoying having to go through pages and pages of a thread, only to find 2 or 3 "real" posts.

Hahaha awesome.

ahah yah whats wrong those 2!!! 😛.

Anyways rejected today, though the email was the nicest rejection email i think thats ever been written in the history of rejections letters lol. Pretty nice👍. Was completed 7/14...here was part of the letter for those who are lucky enough not to get it 🙂

"We acknowledge and respect your accomplishments and recognize that our inability to offer you an opportunity to complete the admissions process is a loss for Boston University. Please accept our best wishes for all your future endeavors."

so they are really going day by day and rejecting applicants as they arrive what is up with that?! good luck with the rest of the schools!! there are still 40+ to get good news from 😉

sorry to everyone who got rejected 🙁

I feel like i have 6 more days to live, if this is the rate they are going at =p

Woah woah woah. My status page said I don't get an interview, but I didn't get a rejection e-mail. Explain!

EDIT: JK. I got the e-mail but hadn't read it carefully since I was on a public workstation. False alarm!

So theory. I found this on a thread from last year. I figure if you haven't been rejected in this first batch you move onto round 2. Last year they didn't seem to give out any interviews until later in August. So still a lot to go through. So if you haven't gotten a rejection letter yet with this batch, you're probably not necessarily going to get an interview but you've probably passed the first step.

Our application process, in general terms, proceeds as follows:

1. Our first step each year is to establish a universe of academically prepared individuals within the pool of candidates who file initial applications with us. This year, it looks like we will be working with approximately 12,000 applications. The initial screening step is based largely, but not exclusively, upon quantitative data such as academic performance at the undergraduate, postbaccalaureate and graduate levels, MCAT scores, and academic rank of the educational institution(s). Various aspects of life history are also considered. In recent years we have had almost 5000 applications pass this initial screen and move on to additional review and consideration.

2. Next, we review the remaining folders in even greater detail, struggling to identify the candidates with special or unusual characteristics that suggest they may be particularly well suited to attending our medical school. Of the approximately 5,000 applicants reviewed at this level, we have capacity to interview only about 1,000, so we are forced to make many arbitrary and subjective decisions. Our focus is on a comprehensive, holistic evaluation of each applicant, incorporating academic and nonacademic factors in a highly individualized review. Once again, it is extremely unusual for a decision to be made on the basis of only 1 factor. Rather, these decisions reflect our sense of the overall portfolio.

3. After interview the folders are reviewed yet again, this time with the interviewer's report providing important, but not necessarily determinative, guidance in our final decision about acceptance. By this stage of the process each applicant folder has been scrutinized and discussed by no fewer than 8 members of the Committee on Admissions.

Please accept our best wishes as you pursue other options to begin your career in Medicine.

Sincerely,

Robert A. Witzburg, M.D.
Associate Dean and Director of Admissions

sigh. i love BU. not sure why that message from dean witzburg made me think this... but i do 😍 :xf::xf::xf:

I'm kind of confused. If they cut from 12,000 to 5,000 in an academic screen, you'd think that the cutoff would be pretty high-- 3.7+, 34+. How is it then that a LOT of their acceptees have numbers below that? Or that our SDNers with high stats have been rejected?

as conjectured earlier, they don't want to waste their time on applicants who are using BU as a safety

For the grid in the letters of recommendation section, is there any way to specify my relationship to the letter writer? Please help!

I was under the impression that you can't edit the grid for LORs - I thought it automatically updates when they download the letters from AMCAS and upload them to your file.

Mentally preparing myself for my first rejection, which should be out in two days.

BU's innovatively crappy secondary has already given me a reason to dislike the school, but if they give me an invite I'll gladly shut up.

From my complete email from BU.
Applications are reviewed in the order in which they were completed, and as we have received a large number of early applications this year, please understand that this may take some time.
I'm not sure if that means that they're reviewing 7/15 today, and 7/16 tomorrow, 7/17 the next day....etc. I get the feeling they can probably make more progress than that in a day, but then they probably take days off.

Agreed. There are limits to how much random conversations I can read through in order to find a few morsels of usefulness. A small amount is fine and expected but its gotten out of hand I feel. To each their own I guess. Good luck to everyone!

i was complete 7/16 as well. i'm guessing tomorrow will be a sad day (due to my first rejection). i hope they don't think that BU is a "safety" of mine b/c it's actually one of my top choices...

I applied last year (2008) and here is my time line:

Secondary received: 3-Jul
Secondary submitted: 9-Jul
Secondary complete: 22-Jul
Interview Invite received: 2-Sep
Interview: 8-Oct
Accepted: Jan-11

Don't worry to get your classes exactly right on the grid. BU asked us to bring a list of requirements to our interview day. Make sure your courses are all green, but don't worry to get it perfect.

I don't believe that BU discriminates against applicants with good MCATs and grades.

Anybody hear back about rejections today?

Rejected. That's just such a depressing start to hearing back from schools.
