You're not a noob when you realize how little you know - and how little you'll still know the day you die.

By definition, humankind is nubile. So there will be no end to our epic phails through the ages.

I don't understand why required attendance is such a big deal. If I go to a med school, I want there to be required attendance.

I am going to FSUCOM next year regardless. But its nice to have the option of skipping a class if needed.

Did you defer or already get accepted EDP? Haven't really paid attention

I defer

I checked out your MDapp, nice job of already getting an interview 👍

Thanks friend... really gunning for a FSU interview though

Im pretty sure you will get one, my stats was around your area. I just think the northern school gives out interview earlier, its a big waiting game

Ok, so, I tried to skim over the postings for this year and last year's Secondary Threads for the information I am looking for. I was hoping Locus, Mop, or anyone else that has interviewed for FSU could answer these questions. My post is long so I bolded the actual questions.

I am applying early decision and trying to get my application out as soon as possible. I worked the hell out of my AMCAS, personal statement, and Work/Activities. I was wondering if the interviewers will even have viewed my AMCAS, most notably my work and activities, when they interview me. I mentioned most of my significant travel experiences in solid detail and I was wondering if I should mention them again in my secondary, how in-depth I should go, etc.

This is my second round of med school interviews as I didn't get in last year. I know that I had an interviewer at one school last year who somehow, through a miscommunication or something of the sort, had never seen my file before. She had to skim over my primary that I had agonized over in about 5 minutes, and never saw my secondary at all. I know I am all over the place, but how well read will the interviewers be on me, at FSU. If anybody applied and interviewed early decision, just in case the interview process is different, I'd love to hear from them particularly. Thanks.

Both my interviewers knew my AMCAS pretty well, they asked me about my traveling experience, they cover all their based pretty well GPA, MCAT, grades. One of the person even quoted one of sentence that I wrote in the secondary and asked me about it like "you wrote here that you................... can you explain that to me why did you write that". It was a stupid sentence that I knew would comeback and bit me 😀

The only think they didnt really ask me was my different organizations that I was involved in. They even asked me the information that I sent them in my update letter.

One of the prompt on the secondary is about travelling, so you should mention it there in detail if you want.

hi i am a re-applicant & applied extremely late last year and now am getting an earlier start & wondered what you guys thought about if teh info i write in the secondaries should change at all?? or maybe they didnt even read it or remember that from last year?
thanks😳😳

thanks locus. I just basically reiterated in the secondary, in terms of traveling, what I said in my AMCAS. I hope this is alright with them.

My interviewers had all of my information right in front of them. Grades, essays, experiences, etc. If things haven't changed then don't add more. It doesn't have to be a novel. I think most admissions offices appreciate concise applicants. I used a ton of bullet points on my FSU secondary.

I think you will be fine, since you cant change your PS on your AMCAS and one of the prompt ask for traveling experience, so you have to mention it again. Good luck to ya!!

I just wondering how long it takes to hear back from FSU after you get the "your app is waiting for review by the committee"? A month or two? ;( im scared

I'm an EDP applicant complete July 1st and still waiting. They said mid-August for us. Isn't that like...now?🙂

For the parents traits question. How in depth should I be going? Can I just list the traits they have, a little bit about them, and then the traits I posses? or do you think I should go a little bit further and describe in what way posses those traits. give a littel story of each or something like that?

i would just state anything interesting about them (born in Ukraine, president of Boston Scientific, quadriplegic, etc.)

Those interested...I spoke with FSU today and they will begin inviting EDP'ers for interviews later this week or early next week. Damn I'm anxious 🙂

BTW, any other EDP'ers out there??

Good luck to ya!!

NP, it's the American way to blame others.😀

Hey, when I interview there I'll put in a good word for ya...what's your name?

No it will be good, I promise. Are you applying to FSU as well? I could do the same for you.😉haha

I'm a reapplicant as well, and I asked one of the schools I applied to last year(Case Western) this question. The answer was that I should write new ones, or else they may think that I'm lazy. However, the only thing consistent about medical schools is that they're wildly inconsistent, so FSU may not have the same expectations. Just to be safe, I'm rewriting all of my essays.

I am in fact applying to FSU...let's hope for some good news!!

I am a reapplicant as well and I can not understand why anyone would submit the same essays as last year. Obviously they did not stand out enough to want you at their school. If the essay is unique, you could keep the same premise but tie in your new experiences to it

What is the deal with the parents and siblings question on the secondary??? What are they looking for in an answer? Surely they don't actually care where my parents were born.

Anybody have advice/example of what they wrote in last year?

I think the question is design to get to know your background, your support system, and your environment (if you have a disfunctional family or a great family). I wrote a great deal on this since my dad had an interesting story to tell (I went over the word limit, I called FSU and they didnt mind). I follow the instruction so in the end it was kinna long

For both mother and father give the following:

* Where they were raised
* 4-5 traits that would describe him/her to a stranger
* Traits you get from him/her
* Your rapport with him/her
* His/her hobbies or interests
Its up to you in the end

Seriously, don't look so much into it. Just answer the questions. They aren't trying to trick you. Use those freshman composition class skillz.

Does anyone know when regular admission invites go out?

I don't think there is a set date, but I'd estimate they start coming out when the EDP people are all scheduled and interviewing.

so misspoh, how's it feel to be done with one semester of med school already? are u excited for the fall semester to begin

More excited to not be called "miss". 😉

But yea, the first year here is supposed to be relatively easy. I'm glad to not have to set foot in the anatomy lab, at least with bodies.

You havent set foot in the anatomy lab? A friend I have that goes there told me all she has done is anatomy...how does that work? Do you guys do rotations or something?

LOL wow sorry about that, i actually have a friend whose screen name is MissPao. can u blame me too much? 😛

What are yous guys putting for the "travel experiences" section of the secondary? Should I just write about real 'travel' experience (vacations, international volunteering,) or should I include the 2202939948 times I've moved as well? 🙄 baby's first secondary application here.

Has anyone gone on the tour of the SOM here? I noticed online you can book tours. Anyone with experience think it is worth a visit? Its only 45 min long so it cant be too in depth.

Also, do you think bringing my pregnant wife on the tour would be a bad idea? I dont want anyone in admissions thinking I would be less committed to my studies because I will have an infant but at the same time its a day trip and shes just as interested as it will be the next 4 years of her life as well.

If you're a non-trad I really don't think it will matter.
