does anyone have any idea what to write for the 500 characters?

I would love any and all advice but especially some perspective from those that got interviews/were accepted

Thanks

Should I apply to Jefferson? I have no ties to the school nor the state and my stats are only ok. I will be in a master's of science program this year though.

Also, does anyone know if you add additional schools to your amcas, will that push you back in being verified or does that not effect it?

does not affect it. Add if you are interested.

My experience with the masters programs is it doesn't count for much until you have the masters degree and finished your thesis defense. I would leave AMCAS out of it and just send them the info in an update letter.

As for if you should apply? well, do you you want to go there? and Are your stats good enough to get in? I wouldn't apply if you have a 3.1 and 26 on the MCAT.

I have 3.7 and i got a 28Q on the MCAT

a 28 is too low for near everywhere, but if you are a URM, good app otherwise, who knows there are always chances. Jefferson does accept people with that low of an mcat, so assuming your MCAT isnt horribly unbalanced, then certainly its feasible to add this.

aren't we supposed to be encouraging each other here? 🙁 i have a 29Q and a 3.6 from yale and you've just made me feel like i'm wasting my time and thousands of dollars...

Yeah. If you applied broadly and early enough and you have interesting ECs you should have a decent chance of getting into at least one school. I have a 29 on my MCAT and I'm currently sitting on two interviews. That doesn't mean I'll 100% get accepted, but it's a big step in the right direction. So don't give up!

oh hey Im not saying you have no chance...i have a 3.8 and 29Q mcat myself, i feel i have little chance also. I didnt mean it to be demeaning and i hope i did not come off like that. But i like to keep it real and be honest. Looking through the msar and talking to a few adcomms, it seems a 29 is just about the lowest most like to accept barring extreme disadvantage or URM status. There are apparently about 3000 people witha 27-29 mcat accepted each year, so its not impossible, Im just saying that its hard for those of us with a <31 mcat. Especially if you have <9 in any section. It just doesnt look good. I mean 32 is becomming the new 30 mcat.

I have one interview so far with my stats, luun has a few so obvious its not impossible, but just saying its not going to be easy for any of us. You gotta look at it like this. There are many people who have the 3.8+ 34+ mcat...why are they going to take us who have poorer mcats then this? What makes you so special? stats arent everything but theres gotta be something on your app that makes them think you are a great candidate despite a less then stellar mcat. If you feel you have that then apply, i know i did and i hope i and others have success who do not have the SDN 35 mcat average😛

You just have to believe in yourself. Not everyone who gets in to medical school have 30+ MCATS and 4.0's (people who score lower than us get in too)

I received an interview last year and was put on the waitlist, so I know I wasn't just being wishful...I'm hoping doing well in my masters program will give me that something extra to get in 🙂

Just walked by Jeff last night when I went out for some drinks. Oh how I love thee. Why won't you send me an interview?

About how long does it take for Jefferson to download letters? Thats the only thing keeping me from being complete here.

just checked my email... interview invite sent at 9 PM... sweet end to a friday night

Could be a glitch in their system that prevents your status page from being updated. I had the same problem (submitted secondary 7/2... by 8/2 still missing LOR's) so I called in. The lady took down my name and AMCAS ID to double check and updated my page within the next hour. If it has been over 2 weeks since you submitted the secondary, I'd give them a call. 🙂

im not sure of the exact date but around july 10th is when i checked the status site and saw that i was complete

So I was checking my status on the site and they have yet to download my letters of recommendation, but under Interview Status it says Interview Offered with a date. Can they even offer interviews before an app is complete? I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this issue.

their status site is kinda iffy. anyways, I would say it's pretty safe to say that you have an interview 🙂

Congrats! I am pretty sure this is an interview invite. Most people on the thread said it showed up on their status before they got an email about it.

I don't see any Interview invite status button or tab on my page. Does it only show up for people who got an invitation?

Yup, for now the rest of us wait. 6 of my schools are sending out invites and I have none yet, hope thats not a bad sign.

they need to show some brotherly love here but they be fakin jax. i interviewed for a medical assistant position in their main line outpatient dermatology office and didn't call them back when they offered me the job. that woman looked mean too.

if the phillies or the eagles win this year and i get no love from jefferson... someone's surgical supplies are gonna get looted.

I'm in the same boat. Engineer with lower stats than you and nothing yet. Hey, it doesn't mean I'm rejected yet though (glass half full).

Same boat here..... although I tell myself, if I didn't hear anything today, then I didn't get rejected today, did I?? 😉

EDIT: Oops, I have 1 interview. But I stand by waiting and waiting on all the rest who are sending out invites <fingers crossed> 😉 Hoping it's not a bad sign I haven't heard yet.

Just got the interview invite. Not a glitch!

Got an interview for 9/30!!! I was complete on July 15 and got an interview on July 30. MCAT 31 and g.p.a. 3.8 overall.

Hi guys, In the 500 character box, would be wiser to address my low GPA for one year due to family issues or write on how much I want to go to the school? What do you guys think will be better? Thanks in advance.🙂

I apologize if this has been addressed, but before I add Jefferson I'm trying to determine whether they will accept a semester of Biochem in place of Orgo 2. The only thing i could find on their website was:

A strong preparation in the sciences basic to medical school studies is advised. A variety of college course formats and combinations, including biology, general and organic chemistry and physics are a minimum. Courses taken to meet the basic requirements should be, in general, comparable to courses accepted for concentration in these disciplines. Courses taken should be supplemented by laboratory experiences.

seems kinda vague. does anyone know for sure? if not, i will send them an email.

also for those of you who live out there . . . whats living like out there? what's rent like for a 1br? Is parking a huge hassle? is traffic really bad?
are there suburbs around there? i'm just starting to hate life in chicago and i dont want to end up somewhere thats exactly like it as far as all those things are concerned.

philadelphia is the 5/6th largest city in the US and one of the more packed ones. It is kinda like New York mixed with Boston. More towards NY.

A rent for 1br in center city could be at the very lowest $800/month to $1500/month. The price is, of course, if you don't share it. Most likely, it will be around 900-1100 for a 1br. Is parking a hassle in center city? yes. Is traffic really bad. During rush hours. Not as much as NYC or DC. There are tons of nice suburb type place in Main Line Philadelphia.

great city

The best would probably to call at this point. I don't think it will be very likely to substitute Biochem for Orgo 2 unless Orgo 2 is not offered at your institution. There will also be a discrepancy then with the lab requirement unless Biochem also offered a lab. I know most med schools require 1 year orgo + lab. My brother is applying for UCSF Dent and had a similar problem with the Gen Chem Lab prereq (AP'ed out). After calling, the lady said they would make an exception by accepting his Biochem lab as a substitute. Never know unless you find out from an official source. 🙂

for people who didn't put SAT scores on secondary ( I took ACT) did you just put "0" in both boxes

for those of you who already submitted: did your status check still showed "no" by secondary received and payment received.

Yep. How long after submission does it update?

Also, if you submitted once, does it give you the option to submit again? I have this option...I was wondering if I should just submit again? Maybe it never really went through?

It might have never submitted because mine immediately after would not let me submit it again, it said it was already submitted.

Is this giltchy for anyone else or what? I thought I had submitted a few weeks ago, today i went to check status updates, after logging in i got two options:

Complete Secondary Application
Display APplication Status

I clocked on the status one and it noted that my secondary was not in yet. This kinda freaked me out at which point i went back to the previous page and clicked on the "Complete Secondary Application" page. CLicking on that took me to the application and everything on there was blank. I filled it out again and submitted.

The confusing part though is that I can go back to the "Complete application" link and I will get a blank form to fill out again....what's going on with this? 😕

Everyone has those two options. Call them.

Not me... ever since I submitted, I can click on "complete application", but after I do, the page says, "our records show you have already submitted, therefore the application isnt available to you" or something.

Secondary submitted! I cannot wait to interview here 😀

But you still have the link saying 'complete secondary application'. That's what I meant.

That happened to me too, even after I got an interview...I called them to ask about it and they immediately changed it. So even though it says your letters aren't received, there's a pretty good chance that they are. I would call if you want to make sure. The woman I spoke with was pretty nice about it.

I submitted my secondary on 7/13 and my letters were uploaded to AMCAS on 7/21. I was complete 7/29. Haven't heard anything yet...

Same here. I filled it out again and re-submitted. However, even after this, I am still able to re-fill. Not going to re-fill a third time, however. I'll just wait and maybe call them in a few days.

A little overconfident, aren't we? Not to be a Debbie Downer but, if you haven't been through it before, you will find that this whole process is a crap shoot. You have decent stats (although a 33N is hardly "slaughter[ing] the MCAT") but every year people with stats just as good as yours end up without an acceptance. And every year people with stats significantly worse than yours get admitted to some pretty decent schools. The fact that you applied to so few schools isn't going to help either. Good luck. I hope it works out for you.

i'm filling out the secondary application right now and it says that "If you are unable to supply the requested recommendations please indicate this in the optional text box provided near the bottom of this form (Additional Information)."

is that referring to if you are unable to submit all 4 LORs or if you are unable to submit an LOR from a bio, chem, phys and humanities prof?

i don't have a letter from a phys professor. should i indicate that or is it only for people who don't have 4 LORs to submit? THANKS!!!

She is a non-traditional and has very good reasons to be applying around the area. However, what you said is right - people with much better stats and credentials sometimes end up with no acceptance.

Klemptor: Hopefully you are a good writer and have written kick ass essays because thats important in non-trads more so than normal applicants. My best wishes to you and I really hope one of these schools accepts you! 🙂

if we have yes for everything, is it considered as complete?
