thanks =) do they take a long time to send them after they receive the applications?!

For question #5:
Please describe any self-education, research, or independent scholastic work have you undertaken and what do you feel you have accomplished in this work.

Is it mainly asking about independent work? I've done research with other students in a group, does that count?

For those of us who sent the express mail with about 1-1.5 week left to our deadline, you think we'll be alright? I hope they mark somehow when they receive the mail in the office...because they are probably backed up and won't mark us complete right away.

Anyone ask admissions about this?

I'm a little less than 2 weeks out from the 30 day mark, and I did the whole $17 express overnight deal, which comes with a tracking number that you can follow online. When they sign for it, it shows on the tracking page. I'm going with that as proof of submission within their 30 deadline. It just says they have to receive it within 30 days, not that you have to be complete.

Edit: NM, it doesn't even have to be received, only "mailed by the due date". Dunno who would want to cut it that close though..

Mine is due Sept. 5, but I sent it express mail on late afternoon Sept. 2. I didn't realize the 1 month deadline due to a bunch of secondaries I had to do before this one, and money issues. But hopefully it gets through, I really like this school :xf:

me niether... i didn't notice the deadline

i submitted the online a day before, and 1-day'd the actual mailing in app. guess i didn't make the cut...

🙁

There's an online portion? I was under the impression that you were just supposed to print out what you did online and mail it

Did I miss something?

Did you find out by status? And you paid the $75, and they won't even look at it? 👎

no clue...

i havent heard a single thing... which i assumed meant i missed the cutoff

and yea there was an online part. just the secondary typed in, which you THEN had to print. when i tried to re-access, it said something like "you've already completed the online section"

i know THAT part was in on the deadline, but most likely my mailing thing wasn't, which is why i assumed this was a silent rejection

Just wanted to address people who are concerned about having their application turned in late. Most likely it isn't an issue at all--my application arrived late last year and everything worked out just fine for me 🙂.

If possible try and get your applications in on time. But, I believe that everyone is given a grace period. If you think your application may arrive late though, it wouldn't hurt to give the admissions committee a call and give them a heads up. Overall, they are very welcoming and forgiving, and I doubt they would make a big deal.

And yes, unfortunately their tiny office is inundated with applications, etc. Especially right now apparently--they told me they have a lot more applications right now than the same time last year, yet no additional staff. Loyola is not known for moving fast at all. And only about five people interview each day. But if you interview, it'll be worth it 🙂

i was printing my application and somehow it didn't print the entire application and i didn't see that right away. any suggestion?? Is there anyway to see the completed secondary again? i logged in to see but it just says [SIZE=+1]Your application has been finalized. You are no longer able to access this information online.

I would just call them Tuesday (after labor day) and ask them what to do. Trust me, you are probably not the first person who this has happened to.

are they close on monday?? my school is open 🙁

I got an interview here, but can't find anything out about student hosts? Does anyone know if Loyola offers student hosts and, if so, where I could find out more about it?

Itll be explained in the packet you'll receive.

Yay finally finished this secondary. Going in the mail today.

So I'm trying to brainstorm a bunch of material for these essays, and I could really use some input to see if I'm going in the right direction....

Essay #1: Does it have to be medically pertinent? I like my essay from MSU for a personally rewarding experience, with my trip to Israel for 10 days. I feel I gained a solid sense of personal identity and a greater appreciation for diverse cultures. Otherwise, I could talk about my decision-making process with transferring schools, or my grandfather as an influential person for me (but this isn't really an isolated experience or incidence). I don't know, I haven't had a specifically riveting experience here...

Essay #2: By "working with," do they mean as a team member (i.e. UIC's "interdisciplinary team" -esque, with the many backgrounds, ooooor as the subjects I worked with, like if I taught a health class for underpriveleged high schools from an impoverished, "diverse" neighborhood. A lot of schools aim for a diverse class with a combined rich background, so I'm trying to figure out what angle they're getting at.

Essay #5: Someone already asked about the research experience, but no one answered him/her. If we didn't undertake the research ourselves, but rather we assisted on the team, that counts, correct?

Essay #6: Do we leave this blank if we're going to be a full-time student, or should we still list our activities and whatnot?

Essay #7: Is this honestly just an updated information essay or could it be interpreted as a, "why Stritch?" question, like a last heave ho lasting impression question?

Thanks so much guys! For any help, much appreciated!

This secondary was such a beast, and it was my last of 25. But surprisingly, I thought it was my best work overall. Even tho it took the whole 4 weeks lol.:meanie:

Same here, in fact I almost wish I could take what I wrote for Loyola and replace the garbage I put out in my early secondaries. Oh well...

invite 🙂

10/10 so far w/ 0 rejections.

You seriously going to go to all those interviews?! 🙂

At least when you make your pick of where you want to go, a dozen slots will open up!

If anyone feels like they could give me good quick feedback from my post above, I would greatly appreciate it!

does loyola screen?

Yes, they do screen. However, the screening numbers are very low...I don't know what they are for certain, but look at past MDapplicants cycles and you'll see that the cutoffs must be ridiculously low

you're kinda askin a lot. I bet if you use some good judgment interpreting your essays, you'll be fine. the way I see it, if a school isn't explicit about something in an essay, then you have some wiggle room. there is no need for every single person to respond to each essay exactly the same.

True true, but alright, one quick question then. As for essay #1, would it be a taboo to talk about that Israel experience that I mentioned? I ask that because of the Jesuit school, I wonder how adamant they are about not mentioning things otherwise. It was really just eye opening in that it gave me a strong appreciation for how rich each culture's background is (you know, applied more broadly).

What do you think, should I not touch that?

It would do you good to discuss something like that. it sounds like it was a big life changing experience for you, and that's the kind of thing that brings life to your app. i vote go for it. 🙂

I never received a secondary from here and I was verified in early August. WTF?

it took a long time for me to get mine as well. I think they just have lots of applications. You will get it but probalby only in a few weeks 🙁 It really says nothing about how qualified you are as an applicant- they are just slow

P.S. I love your screen name- Zona Pellucida- only bio insiders get this 🙂

According to the admissions office, it can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks from verification so you should be receiving it soon.

What do you guys think, does question #7 also allow room for making a lasting impression by discussing one last point about ourselves, or should it really just be left blank if we have no updates or gaps that need explaining?

Also, should we literally just leave #6 blank if we're going to be a full-time student, or mention other activities we're going to be involved in?

Thanks guys!

I think just indicate that you're a full time student for #6. They just want to know what people are up to during their year off, if you're taking a year off.

For #7 I just stated that my info was completely up to date. I think its a spot to add on any activities that you may have become involved with since you submitted your primary, or if there were any changes like an address change.

that's how I understood those, but anyone please correct me if I'm wrong. good luck! 🙂

Am I the only person who hasn't received a secondary yet? I submitted my primary 8/4 and was verified 8/27. My MCAT scores came in on 9/1. All decent stats... what does this mean that I haven't gotten a secondary?

It means nothing except for submitting your AMCAS relatively late. If you had just read four posts above you, you will see that most people had to wait 3-4 weeks to get the secondary. You were just verified 8/27. I was verified in June and didn't get my secondary until 8/11.

lstone13, keep this in mind ^. It took me a long time after my mcat scores were in to get a secondary from them. about 3-4 weeks after the rest of my schools sent theirs to me

Hey guys my file was complete on August 6th and I still haven't heard anything. Do the time lengths vary? I just know some people have already gotten interviews and I'm getting slightly paranoid that maybe something got held up with my application. Thanks 🙂

i received the secondary invite.
and came here of course to read q's before paying $75 to complete their secondary.
can i ask what the format is...is it a pdf you fill out and send in, or is it electronic submission?

their questions overlap all over the place...i want to just write one essay which addresses a few questions at once...which is do-able if I fill out and send in forms, but not do-able if it's electronic?

so, what's the word...paper or bytes?

thx

Kinda both. You have to fill it out, certify/submit/I forget what they call it, and the print it out and send it. Just write each essay separately--you don't have to take all 25 lines.

hm, now I'm wondering if I mixed this up with another school's submit online/send in paper copy, but I'm pretty sure it was this weird, annoying way.

I know this is way last minute for what I was intending, but I still have one essay for this secondary that I haven't had anyone look over. Would anyone mind reading through it for me? I would GREATLY appreciate it!

Eva, I can look over your secondary if you want. Just PM me the essay. I've already submitted mine for this school. Good luck!

I mailed my app to them 2 and a half weeks ago and haven't received a "your file is complete" e-mail yet. Anyone else in this boat?
