Mine was on Wed, 7/8 (very early in the morning of course). I haven't paid much attention to this year's thread, but after creeping on the beginning of last year's thread, I noticed that many of their LOR requests were in the wee hours b/t Tuesdays and Wednesdays...

Thanks 🙂 That just means I'll be more nervous now on Wednesday mornings when I check my e-mail, haha

🙂 My guess isn't based on a whole lot of observation, though...it really seems like Mayo sends out news regardless of the day of the week...I've already noticed Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights/mornings (not necessarily LOR requests)...which is crazy!!

Haha, I guess Mayo just really likes to keep their reputation of being super unpredictable

I'm really excited because I have Celiac disease so I can't eat any wheat or gluten. I've already been scoping out the restaurants and health food stores in Rochester and I found two pizza places that have gluten free pizza! You don't know how much I miss pizza! And they have an Italian restaurant that offers gluten free pasta. Plus they have a health food store called Gluten-Free Cupboard that is all gluten free food! They also have Indian restaurants which is a plus as far as I'm concerned since Indian food is my favorite!

I might be getting a little ahead of myself though, since I'm still waiting on AMCAS to verify my primary.

That's really exciting. I thought I had it good in my town, but gluten-free pizza... wow. 😍

can anyone verify this who lives/been to rochester. i've heard its sort of an old-folks town (ie not much there for young ppl to do). to what extent is this true or not true?

It's not like there's tons of stuff to do, but it's got all the normal things. Plenty of bars and everything, a mall, bowling, movie theatres, mini golf, beach, river, etc. As a young person, we always go to parties at each-other's places. If you're a big-city person though, you won't like it.

The only flights in/out of the Rochester airport are from/to St.Paul, Chicago, and Detroit. It's really small.

Roch has an airport, with frequent connections with the Minneapolis/St. Paul and Chicago airports, along with a number of other large cities. It's probably a little more expensive to get a connection to Rochester though, so you might want to compare car rental prices to connection fees. The drive is only ~1.5 hours.

True but the connecting flight to the cities is only like 15-20 minutes once you're in the air.

Yea very true, I've always just flown in and out of the cities.

Yeah I think it just depends on the variation in prices; sometimes it's a lot more expensive for the connection, sometimes it's not. kayak.com ---> major timesaver for price comparisons!

Yeah, and one of the places does delivery! Can you imagine being able to call and order a pizza for delivery! Wow! I haven't done that in 6 years! I was diagnosed when I was 16.

That would be awesome. My wife and 1.5 year old daughter have Celiac also.

Have you ever been to Picazzo's in Tempe or Scottsdale? They sell fresh GF pizza dough too!

No, I actually haven't gone anywhere in Arizona besides Tucson. I haven't been able to get away with school and work. Sounds great though. When I lived in Florida, there was a pizza place near me called Pizza Fusion and they had gluten free pizza that was pretty good. There's also a place in Eugene, Oregon, near where my mom lives. My mom and brother also have Celiac disease.

I'm sorry guys that stinks. I wonder if they send LOR's at the same time as rejections.... If so, I can't believe I'm still just floating around. They must have put me in a pile that's like "Maybe later, but not until we see who else we get"

Well, got the axe. Oh well.

i wish my prof would finish my last LOR so that I could send them in and get the rejection over with

Did you already have the LOR request then? Cause I think everyone whose been rejected so far hadn't gotten the request..... like me....

oh really? yeah I got the LOR request a while back, but I've been waiting on my last LOR (this is the case with all my freaking schools, it's starting to annoy me because I've finished so many of these dang essays and can't submit a single one). But if you haven't been rejected yet, then I'd say that's a plus... it seems like they sent out a wave of rejections tonight, so if you didn't get one then maybe there's something good coming your way.

On a side note, how are people with really good stats getting reject pre-LOR??? I know Mayo isn't a numbers school, but I would expect them to give the high-stats students a chance of some sort

Someone posted a while back that they only give out about 600-800 LOR requests... that doesn't sound like a simple stats cut. I'm sure many more than 600 apply with great stats.

I have bad stats and got an LOR request a few weeks ago. I will probably get rejected pre-interview, but they obviously don't take stats too seriously over a certain point.

My stats are similar to yours and I am in the same boat.

I'm just waiting for my rejection email...

This is, by far, my favorite emoticon of this entire applying process!

1st rejection as well...good luck to those still in the game! im unsubscribing lol

Amazing. I'd sure like to give it a try! Seriously, I think I could deal with the cold and the snow for 7-8 years if I could order pizza for delivery at home. It's been 6 years for me too.

Mayo Medical School + delivery gluten free pizza= happy me 😀

Sad to see you go, man. I really hoped they would give you a chance. Good luck elsewhere.

they don't have gluten free pizza other places? seems weird that this one little town does but the big cities out there don't, although ive never really looked into it

Yea, I'd say that if you have the LOR request you're safe at least for now. My stats aren't high--my GPA is but not my MCAT, and they still haven't rejected me. So they're definitely not going off of numbers anymore I don't think, or maybe only a little. And, I hope you're right that something good might be coming my way!

Most places don't. They don't have any in Tucson. Surprisingly, I was looking on celiac.org and it seems that Rochester is sort of known for being a great place for gluten-free food. Fortunately, I can make pretty good gluten-free pizza, but sometimes I just feel like ordering a pizza.

mind you, they ARE talking about Arizona. there's only two cities there: phoenix and tucson (and even tucson is just like a college town). So it's not surprising that there's no GFpizza anywhere.

True, but those cites are both way bigger than Roch is. Haha

According to wikipedia, Flagstaff has around 127,000 people, so that makes at least 3 good size cities in Arizona. As GF pizza, I have no idea, since I don't need it. I imagine there are places that offer it, but as spread out as the Phoenix metropolitan area is they may be hard to find. I personally would rather have a chicken burrito though.

How's the mexican food in Rochester? Anybody know? That will be the hardest thing for me to leave behind after my family and friends.

I guess google needs to update the population of Rochester.

Oh, and Irk, I'm also hoping they have good Mexican in Rochester. It's my second favorite after Indian.

For those who interviewed here last year, about how many people does Mayo usually interview on a given day?

Yeah I varies. I have talked to my class and some say they had 12 students on their interview days while I only had 2 other students on my interview day.
