Hey guys, I have a question regarding Mayo's secondary payment. When they ask for 'contact info', if the cardholder is different from me, should I put in the cardholder's name here or mine? I ask because there's no field to put in cardholder name otherwise.

can you compare the town to something else that others may be able to relate to? i see your point about the 4 years, but i said the same thing about undergrad and i regret that now. being happy through the process is important too 🙂

I don't know about comparing it to other towns but I can agree with DoctorDeMan that so far Rochester hasn't been that bad. Downtown can be really fun (with the right people) and there are a lot of decent restaurants. If you are used to living in a pretty large college town with tons of stuff catered towards college students than yes, it will probably be very different. I knew that Rochester was going to be like that coming in and if you really have to get out Minneapolis is only an hour and 20 minutes away. I actually drove up to the mall of america with a classmate today around noon, shopped for a couple hours, and was back in Rochester by 5:30. So it really just depends on the person and how used to living in a big city you are. BTW.....I've lived the last four years in Los Angeles and the 4 years before that in Denver.

I would like to hear some others input on this too. I think it is a reasonable qustion (hence my suggesting it earlier), assuming it is worded properly. I wouldn't say, "so tell me why this school is crappy?"

Always ask current students about the negative aspects of their school. Just do it very, very politely and in person. It certainly isn't something you would get from other sources. You will get real answers more often than you would think.

yeah, def fly into MSP and I think if you asked for a student host, they will make it happen!!

As OMSTR said, this is correct. The Go Rochester shuttle isn't bad at all, and they get you right where you need to be. I would suggest you buy your tickets as soon as you can, regardless of student hosting. Its not like you aren't going to go to Rochester if you can't stay with a student host, right? Just hold off on making hotel reservations until we find out about student hosting.

i actually think the student host opportunity is for only one night. at least I remember reading that in one of the emails, maybe it is negotiable though. im not sure. anyways, if it is only for one night, you can take me out for the second dinner 🙂 (i eat chocolate and like gifts too, lol)

Yes, it is worth applying here if you have strong extra-curricular activities of any variety and it certainly isn't too late to apply.

You can assume you will have a student host for one night at the moment. You should receive info relatively soon so do not make hotel plans.

I seem to recall it being an extra $100-150 to fly down to Rochester. As frequently as the shuttle runs, I don't kow how much time catching this flight will really save you.

I am in the same position of having to stay two nights, unless I try to fly in the morning of the intervierw... Ok, I would never actually do that.

I think this thread has just as many posters as other threads, but the posters on this one tend to be the frequent-poster, check-SDN-every-5-minutes type. and also there tend to be a lot of "OMGz mayo is amazing! I 😍 mayo!!! please show me some love mayo (even though I KNOW you can't see this, nor would it make a difference if you did)"

Short answer: Mayo combines a lot of really cool features of other top medical schools into one school. Check out the website to see more details about the curriculum, class size, etc.: www.mayo.edu/mms The location is a selling point for me personally, even though I am from one of the hottest states in the country. I want a change in weather and to live in a small-mid-sized city.

I think from previous posts on this thread it could take anywhere from 1 -2 weeks. I got my LOR downloaded email 2 days ago.

Just wanted to give a heads up - looks like their LOR request is NOT solely based on your LizzyM score. I've got a lizzyM score above 70 and I got rejected. And my work and activities section isn't THAT bad (I didn't do 40 hours of volutneering a week; but you get my point) So I guess they are really looking for something specific before going for LoRs.

Fee received (by mayo): July 15th.
Rejected: today (August 6th)

boo! I was hoping they'd give me a shot... oh well 🙁

Sentinel, I think it is the fee request they base upon your LizzyM score. For the LOR request, I am pretty sure that they go based on your EC's mostly.

I paid the fee last night. You guys are right about the early morning emails. Fortunately for me, I am in AZ, so it's not quite as late here. I was up late reading anyhow.

My fee was received on 7/14 and I have no LOR request or rejection yet. I have a feeling the rejection is coming soon though.

Nope. In fact I don't think I have awesome EC's, I think its more about the combination of my experiences and the personal statement that could have done the trick. I think it also depends on what stages of review they are in, so some hear back sooner than others.

You are correct, the fee request is based on LizzyM, not the LOR request.

It took me a week, but I already had my letters on AMCAS. At this point in the cycle, I would guess it would take at least that long. If it has been over a week I don't think it would look bad if you called at this point to check.

2. Let me know if you have questions. I don't have all the answers, but I work with the office ladies a fair amount (give tours and such) and am pretty straight forward if you're ok with one person's biased point of view bc I love Mayo!

Are you a pre-med? That may be your problem...you should switch to pre-bartending for a month and then maybe come back 😀

Pre-bartending? I want to meet some one who is a pre-bartending student. I can imagine the competition is quite feirce for those two week programs at bartending school. Plus, if you want to get into a competitive field then you have to go back and take the advanced bartending classes! I think I will take the easy way out and stick to medicine.
