Anyone else on WL heard this week? WL movement has been awfully slow since May 15...or maybe I'm just getting a little desperate

On the contrary! Waitlist movement has been really healthy. Keep in mind that SDN posters make up a minority of people who will have gotten in, and several people have posted here in recent days. Nobody can say what your personal chances are, but rest assured that the waitlist IS moving.

Does anyone have any information on housing in East Lansing?? Maybe it has already been discussed in this thread... just need to go thru all 18 pages 😛

anyone heard from MSU lately? Any idea how many of us are on the waitlist this year?

Not mentioned too much. ThaliaNox gave a little input a page or 2 back. I've been looking at apartments outside of EL to avoid the "undergraduate scene." If that's what you're looking for, I can help a little bit...just let me know. I don't know too much about housing in EL or anything really close to campus. I personally found an apartment in Okemos at a place called Central Park Apartments. I really like the place and it's only about 12 minutes from campus.

I'm looking to stay as close to campus as I possibly can. However, I obviously prefer not to be in a complex infested with undergrads LOL

Like ThaliaNox said, your best bet is Berrytree. Go to the MSU CHM c/o 2014 Facebook group and find the guy who is getting rid of his lease there. He's right - when I called them, all they have left are apartments that open up on August 27 or later (in terms of single bedrooms). From what I could tell, all the rest of the complexes have pretty dense undergrad populations.

That guy is me!

If anyone wants this, contact me soon. I'm trying to give it to a new CHM first year but if I don't hear soon I'll start putting out ads for all msu students. (they charge $250 if you can't find someone to take your lease)

If only I had signed me lease few days later of if you had posted a few days earlier, I'd be your guy. Which med school are you headed to?

Hey, guys! I thought I'd add myself to your ranks. I uncovered this thread as I desperately searched for any information on the MSUCHM alternate list. I'm kind of losing my mind.

I had a chance today to speak with a somewhat reliable source who told me that the CBC email was a good thing, as he didn't believe that everyone on the list got checked. Those of us who did receive that email *may* be in a favorable position. Please take this with a grain of salt, keeping in mind that I'm biased to relay positive information. Keep hope alive!

What makes this process more painful is the mystery around it: Where are we (individually) on the waitlist? How many of us are on the waitlist? How are applicants pulled off the waitlist? What does getting the CBC mean?(it was only by logical deduction that we knew it was from CHM)
Best of luck, and let us know if you hear anything

I'm torn about the way they handle this; I'd prefer a ranked list so I would know my chances and could, for instance, pull the trigger on AMCAS 2011 right now if I had a low ranking. However, I do appreciate that they actually take the time to sit down and review the files again, giving us an opportunity to update and improve them. I'm hoping my LOI and fresh LOR will give me a boost. I also wonder if MI residency is considered. One thing I would especially like to know is when the committee meets, so I would not be so obsessive about checking my email. But, as you said, it's all a mystery! I got a good sign today; This is a maize and blue household, but we randomly received a package from my slightly out-of-touch aunt who lives in Florida. It was a Michigan State shirt (large - my size) she found at a yard sale.

Good luck to you, too!

lol I'm going through the exact same process as you: checking the email obsessively, hoping for the LOI and LOR's to provide some boost, considering if it's really time to start over again, AND looking for signs that I will hear the good news from CHM.

I also have very similar stats to yours, but am from OOS.

Does anyone know what MSU's policy for waitlist acceptance is? Do they replace a lost student with an applicant of similar demographic background (i.e. male/female, IS/OOS, ethnic representation...)?

BTW has anyone heard from CHM lately?

I'm not sure on the replacement of dropped spots but i doubt they look for demographics... I am making plans to attend the other school I got into at this point.. I feel like a waitlisters chance after the 15th is very slim

I am also getting ready to go another school I already got into. The wait is maddening, and moreso is the fact that they disclose nothing about your status!

Has anyone that is accepted received anything from CHM besides the acceptance letter? A lot of my friends from other schools are already buying books, have their ID's, getting physicals, picking out stethoscopes, etc., but not us. Anyone heard anything or know a timeline?

I have been wondering that too. CHM starts a few weeks later then a lot of other schools (Well, at least U of M, Wayne, and COM), but shouldn't we have some info by now?

During the summer you'll get a schedule for orientation. The accepted students website will eventually have information on how to send in things like immunizations. You'll get your ID during orientation. You won't need medical equipment until spring semester your first year, and there is an equipment fair in the fall, as well as a list of neccessary equipment which comes out before that.

No need to get too worried about stuff like this. It'll come together and they'll keep in touch about what needs to be done. You will be signing up for classes relatively soon, but actual scheduling won't happen until orientation. MSU CHM starts a little later than WSU or U of M, so this stuff just occurs a little later.

Thanks for the info! I'm not really worried...just excited haha

I got the conditional acceptance email this morning, at around 11:30 ET. I'm so excited! To those of you still waiting: keep the hope alive!

Interview: November '09
Alternate List: December '09
Conditional Acceptance: June '10

Male, OOS, traditional applicant
Sent in many letters of interest while on alternate list

Congrats! See you in August if you end up in EL!

Tough decision between MSU and Wayne, any feedback?

Tough decision between MSU and Wayne, any feedback?
It's a tough decision. I'd lean towards MSU for a few reasons:

-location
-class size
-Wayne has very poor class attendance and I've heard that it makes it a little bit tougher to meet friends/lonely (according to a grad)
-smaller clinical campuses make it easier to get more experience in the hospital (I read a thread in which a nurse at the DMC talked about how there's a lot of competition in the hospital between students, residents, and interns to do procedures)

Just withdrew, let me know if someone gets my spot. Good luck!

Has anyone heard of, or lived in apartments of, Heritage Management in Grand Rapids? They seem to offer great locations and (relatively) competitive rents. But I don't know anything about living in GR and I hope to find out before I arrive

Withdrew my spot this morning, hope one of you guys gets it. There's still hope for all of you on waitlists, stay strong!

Just some info to put out there, my background check request was sent on May 19, 2010. I responded the 20th, and the report was complete June 25. No word from MSU yet.

anyone hear anything? is the waitlist moving at all?

It feels pretty stagnant lately. I certainly haven't heard anything, but you'll be among the first to know if I do.

@ Sparta: Thanks for the info. I got the background check email around that time, but responded to a second request because I accidentally deleted the first message, thinking it was spam. "studentedition"? Seriously, people?

thanks for the reply. The wait has certainly been frustrating so far, and as we now go into july, I'm n not even sure how viable waiting for a spot actually is at this point. I mean, we don't even know how many of us are waiting!

I'm an IS waitlister as well. About another month, hope the list starts to move!

My concern is that the list has been moving healthily in general, just not for us in particular.

Is anyone else having difficulty accessing the AIS today, or is it just me?

Maybe it has flipped for the 2011 cycle?

Hey gcmeo, Having problems with it as well. Have you called the admissions office recently to get any info? I think I might call tomorrow.

I haven't called about the AIS thing, and when I've called about alternate list information, they've been very nice, but refuse to divulge any specifics, so I've more or less given up on that.

But maybe I'll call tomorrow, too! Strength in numbers. haha

I called about the AIS earlier. A nice girl named Nikki confirmed that the technical issues are due to the 2011 changeover, but that I should continue checking it periodically, as they intend to have it fixed soon. It's at least nice to hear that we aren't being hung out to dry.

She was predictably tight-lipped about everything else. What's new?

I got the email today at 4:30, and also got a call. I'll be at the Grand Rapids campus. Woooo! 😀

Good luck to everyone still waiting! Hang in there!

And I JUST submitted the AMCAS less than an hour ago! DOH!

Hey guys,

Is there anyone in here that needs a roommate? Let me know because I just started looking for housing. 🙁

Officially rejected today- 13 months after submitting and spending several months as an alternate
