Should I be concerned that on my status page it STILL says that they are waiting on my MCAT from June 18th and that they STILL haven't received my letters?

I submitted 9/23 (the same day I received it) and it says my application has been "processed" but it's still missing all this stuff. I tried finding a number to call, but had no luck. Anyone else having this problem??

This is the number for the School of Medicine, according to the website: 503-494-8220.

Invite today, Complete 10/14, IS. Now it's time to work on my response to my favorite question "So, tell me about yourself."

Just realized that I can't get into a genetics course for next semester bc it is only offered during the time that i have the ONLY class that i need to graduate...i cant even take it over the summer bc it isnt offered...idk what to do...

Try a local CC, or another class in another dept that has "genetics" somewhere in the title. "Genetics in society" v. Molecular genetics.

i looked at the cc and they dont have one...i also looked at doing it over the summer and no such luck...i emailed them with the description of a course that is a natural science class for non-majors that has genetics in the title...hopefully that works...im really crossing my fingers because OHSU is one of my top choices...

I found an online genetics class for you from Oregon State University which begins winter term, which I believe is January. It is also offered in spring term. It should be fine, but I would get OHSU to approve it before you complete the class.

In addition, they may have some other class suggestions for you. There is no question I'm sure they have never heard 1000 times!

Best of luck in the interview process-and here is your link:

Thanks! I will DEFINITELY look into that! Do you know how you would have to apply to take the class? just a non-degree seeking or something?

Anyone that has already interviewed this season care to give feedback on the experience? Looking at the interview feedback forum, there are no posts for this application cycle yet.

anyone know of a website with an unbiased summary of the healthcare reform bill?

Hi,

For those of you who have interviewed (or otherwise know), what is the expected male attire for an interview at OHSU?

Thanks,
Ascenda

Same as any other medical school interview. Wear a clean, professional suit. Most interviewees I have seen go with black, blue, or grey, with collared shirts and ties in complimentary colors.

I just got an interview invite last Friday and I'm worried. I called the number in the email and left a message, but have not yet heard back from them. Did any of you with confirmed interview dates speak with someone or leave a message?

The reason I am worried is that not all the dates work for me. Thank you very much.

I left a message and got a call back in a few hours to schedule my interview. You should get a call back, maybe things were busy today. Also, some of the dates they gave me as options were gone when I called, and I got the impression they would be a bit flexible if I couldn't have made it to the other dates. Obviously that isn't a guarantee, but I'd be optimistic about being able to work it out when you talk to the scheduler.

I left them a message last Friday too. If they don't get back to me tomorrow, I'll give them another call, but so far I'd just assume they have a lot of people to get back to. They're slow at everything, so I wouldn't expect an instant reply.

Are any of you applying to the joint program? Have you gotten interview requests?😕

Yes, some MD/MPH applicants have been invited to interview already

MSTP applicants have their own sticky...and there have been some OHSU interviews.

MD/PhD != MD/MPH, but both programs have been interviewing.

Did OHSU do interviews today? There were alot of people running around with temp nametags that said "friday" on them. A few of them were up on 12KPV while I was working. It's kind of wierd because there isn't much to see up there other then MRSA and H1N1 patients. All the interesting CC patients are down on 7A (truama).

From the dates they give us to schedule interviews, it looks like they're only on Tues, Wed and Thurs.

unless MD/PhD or MD/MPH do different days for interviews

I'm pretty sure those date tags are given out by certain wards to make sure that only approved visitors are roaming around (gotta love swine flu). I promise you, OHSU will NOT make you wear a colorful day of the week tag during your interview, and you will not be paraded through random areas of the hospital.

Interviews are generally on Tues, Wed, and Thurs except for special circumstances. All MD/PhD interviews are on wednesdays, and I believe that MD/MPH applicants can come on any of the regular interview days.

Does anyone know if its possible to establish IS residency if I eventually get in and decide to attend OHSU? Also, anyone have the numbers for IS and OOS tuition? Thanks.

impossible unless you decide to live there 1 year prior to applying. Also the IS is 33,031 OOS 45683

for those of you who have interviewed here this fall, what was your overall impression of the school and the interviews? just curious as i will be coming up this week, and it will be my first time in portland.

For those wondering about the people in suits with the "Friday" tags - those were 4th year medical students applying for residency. I ran into two groups - internal medicine applicants and emergency medicine applicants (and I know from experience that pediatric applicants are around too).

When I interviewed two weeks ago for pediatric residency at OHSU, they did make us wear a sticker with the day of the week posted on it (this will be awarded to you after they confirm that you don't have a fever and have no flu-like symptoms).

completed around 11/5/9, submitted 10/20... heard from admin with questions regarding my residency - good sign?! I guess if they weren't interested they'd reject vs. ask Q's?! Ugh!!! I so want to go to med school here 🙁

ooooo, nice to know something is happening! I was complete 10/22/09, no word on interviews yet- anyone else in the same boat?

For me, it took 7 weeks being complete before receiving an interview invite. So try to be patient. 🙂

Yeah, Complete 9/25 and haven't heard a word since. It says on the website it may take up to 12 weeks for them to do anything once you're complete so I'm kind of hoping they just haven't got to mine yet. 😕

Last year when I applied, it took them 16 weeks between when I was complete and when I got an interview invite.

Well my interview is coming up next month. I tried asking in this thread before but nobody responded... anyone have insight into how the interview day is structured and how stressful/relaxed the interviews are overall? I tried reading over the interview feedback, but reviews seems to be all over the place with very little info on this application cycle.

Was going to respond to this earlier, but forgot.

The interview day is very loosely organized. After the initial orientation you are basically set free to explore and pass the time until your two interviews. If the weather is decent, this isn't necessarily a bad thing, as the campus is pretty and you can find some amazing views. You have the option to sit in on a lecture, and you will ride the tram during the tour (if your interview isn't scheduled during the tour time). As for the interviews, they're usually pretty relaxed and conversational, but you may get stuck with a tougher session, so be prepared ahead of time. I'd suggest bringing an umbrella...more often than not, it's raining in Portland in December. Good luck, and enjoy your time in Portland/OHSU, it's a great place.:luck:

Hey thanks for the reply and the tip about the downtime & the weather. 🙂 I'll be sure to bring a book & umbrella. Two one on one interviews? I assume they're open file with faculty? Encouraging to hear you enjoyed the place. There's some weird negative feedback in the interview feedback forum & I really want to like Portland & OHSU.

Yeah they're one-on-one with faculty from a variety of backgrounds (medical, surgical, PhD, MPH, etc.) and open file for most of your app, except they don't know you're MCAT/GPA. Both of my interviewers barely read my file prior to the interview. Instead they opted for the "tell me about yourself" approach and the interview flowed from there, so it might be good to consider this type of situation just in case that's how it plays out for you. I'm sure you'll do great!

Anyone wondering/have any idea when they'll start making decisions post-interview? I'm getting anxious 😉

Lori Toner (admissions officer) said applicants need to wait "at least four weeks" from their interview. The packet I received on my interview day states "4-6 weeks".

How long has it been since your interview, eatsleeprepeat?

Perhaps last year's OHSU thread will give some idea of when the first decisions go out. I myself am not anxious enough to go through last year's thread, particularly since the transition to electronic applications might mean this year's timetable is different from last year's (secondary applications did go out rather late this year).

Best,
Ascenda

Thanksgiving day will be six weeks from my interview. Got my acceptance notification yesterday. I've heard of a couple others who interviewed early and received acceptances yesterday as well. Good luck to those awaiting interviews and congrats to those with acceptances.

Any other OOS applicants still not recieved a complete status yet? I submitted mid september (the same day I got it) and still haven't heard anything from them. 😴

If there was any OOS school I would want to at LEAST get an interview invite from, this one is it.

That's unusual. I'm OOS and was marked complete 3 days after submitting my secondary. You might want to call them and see what's up.

Doesn't Oregon pretty much stop caring about OOS/IS after the interview invite stage? As in, the HARD part for OOS is getting the interview?

Uggghhhh I wish I had done that WAY sooner... turns out my school didn't add them to my VirtualEvals account so they still had not received my letters. That SUX 👎thumbdown

🙁 Damn that does suck. But better that you found out now rather than even later.

Ouch. Hopefully it doesn't hurt you too much.
