So I have received 3 emails from USUHS about upcoming interview, but none say when to arrive at the campus. What time should I be there? It says that if I go on the optional tour, the I'll be there until 6:15 pm - they're not expecting me to show up at 8:00 am and spend 10+ hours there... are they?

Haha, that's exactly what they are expecting, of course the tour is OPTIONAL.

I think the information you are looking for is here...

The check in time is posted in 'Interviewee Letter'

ya, it's a little longer than most other medical school interviews. Most of the time is spent listening to guest speakers who describe the school and what to expect as military physician.

It's a long interview day, but it's totally worth it. You get to hear from a bunch of faculty and students, who describe what life is like at USUHS and later in the military. I think it's pretty necessary, so you know what you are getting in to. Don't worry though, it flies by.

Thirding that it flies by. I was initially kind of wary, and it WAS a long day, but they keep you moving, the lunch is good, the sim tour was fun, and overall I think I got a better impression of USUHS as a school than any other medical school at which I've interviewed so far. 🙂

gahh, my signed acceptance form got lost in the mail, now i have to fax it. now i have to wait even longer for that unconditional.

Any new activity out there? This thread seems to have fallen off of the map.

Also, I was just wondering if there have been rejections/alt list letters sent out this application season. I was reading through last years thread and it seems to me that they sent out a bunch of them throughout the application cycle. However, I have yet to hear of anybody getting rejected this year. They all seem to be waitlisted.

Interviewed yesterday. They began the day by saying that the class was already full, but assured us that there is a lot of waitlist movement.

Well, I can't say that I'm all that surprised. I figured they would have sent out "acceptances" to all their classes by mid-January. On a positive note, If history is to be trusted, they dip into the waitlist pretty deeply. Here is to being waitlisted 🙂

Hey everyone,

My name is Dave and am a medical student at USUHS. My wife and I are currently renting a very nice townhouse in Montgomery Village, MD. It is in a great location, close to 270 and lots of shopping.

The townhouse has 4 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. There are lots of updates throughout and it really is very nice. We are moving out because we have decided that it would be better for us to purchase rather than rent. The property will be available May 1.

I know many of you will be heading to Officer Basic, and there were also many in my class, including myself (especially if you have a family) that secured a place before going to OBLC. Trying to find a place around here can be difficult and very expensive, so getting a good place sooner rather than later is a good idea.

The rent is $1800/mo. If you are a family, than your BAH will cover this (my new BAH is almost $2000/mo) for those of us that have dependents. If you are single, I believe that the BAH is around $1600/$1700, but don't know exactly. It would be great for having roommates or if you are a family looking for a lot of room.

There is a garage and back patio for bbq, etc. Please let me know if you are interested and I will get you in touch with the Landlord, who is a USUHS grad and currently stationed in San Diego (Navy guy). I will also be happy to send some pictures if you are interested.

Good luck to all of those still waiting to hear about acceptance and congratulations to those of you who have already been accepted. We look forward to having you next year.

BTW-the commute to school takes about 20 minutes in good traffic.

Feel free to contact me about the house or with any questions about the school.

Regards,
Dave

Since they said we (the 19 Nov group) would hear back toward the end of January, I gave them a call today. I asked when I should expect to hear something, and they said in the next few weeks (same answer another 19 Nov interviewee got 2 weeks ago!). She also confirmed that waitlistees will have to wait for a letter to find out their status.

Just out of curiosity, who did you call/speak with at USUHS?

Darn. I was super excited about getting an interview invite today for Feb 18. But then I signed on and found out that the class is already full. Cheers to being waitlisted as well! 👍

Does anyone know how waitlist works? Are there different tiers? Do they let you know where you are on the waitlist?

Unfortunately they don't let you know where you are. I don't know if there are different tiers, but I am told that people already on active duty get bumped up because they don't have the option of taking an acceptance in a service other than their own.

There are two different lists--waitlist and alternate list. They won't let you know where you are on the waitlist, but I believe it has to do with merit, not necessarily when you were placed on the waitlist.

The alternate list is what you would think of as a traditional med-school waitlist--we'll hold onto you to see who else applies. At this point in the cycle you probably won't get an alternate list......either a waitlist or rejection, but who knows.

The 'waitlist' means you're accepted if a spot opens up. If you're alt. listed you can get a spot if the entire waitlist moves. I know this year's army and air force class have students that were on the alternate list. I don't think the Navy does. So keep that in mind when making your service selection.

Yeah I was wait listed for the Navy, then I accepted an Air Force acceptance.

Hey, Thanks. Navy was my first choice, Army 2nd, Chair Force 3rd, but I indicated that I would be happy to go into any branch. I am just kind of concerned that I haven't got a call or waitlist letter and November interviewees seem to be hearing back in droves.

Congrats to all of those accepted, and high-hopes to those waitlisted. I think waitlisted at this school is much more promising than at any other program, so....congrats to those waitlisted as well.

Anybody simultaneously applying HPSP/HCSP?

Hey Segovia, I interviewed Nov 5th, and after calling USU last week, they told me that my application hadn't even been reviewed... They said that a bunch would be reviewed this week, and that I'd probably know next week or the week after. Hope that gives you some hope =)

Question for those you already got the call from Dr. Calloway,

I know we have 2 weeks to respond, but it is coming close two weeks from the day I got the call ... I got nothing in the mail yet (which is what I am assuming we are suppose to respond to). THe USUHS catalog says we are automatically withdrawn if we don't respond in 2 weeks. Is it 2 weeks from the day we get the conditional phone call acceptance? Or 2 weeks since they send a letter?

Am i just freakin out? Someone help me here 😱

(Can you tell I am so excited to go to this school)😀😀

I wish everybody good luck for tomorrow. Hopefully we will hear some good news!

Got my waitlist letter today, interviewed 19 Nov, AF. Letter was dated 27 Jan and postmarked 29 Jan. I'm trying to be excited, but I was really hoping for an acceptance! Oh well, it's better than a rejection. More waiting! For anyone who was accepted off the waitlist last year, how do they notify you?

SDN is back up 🙂. Congrats Tenbusu! Since I'm on the west coast, I Hope that my letter is still in the mail.

Waitlisted for Navy today! Interviewed 12/6. Keeping my fingers crossed...

Waitlisted today also! ycyeh1, are you prior service? my waitlist letter is only a general one and doesn't say a service? Tenbusu, I know you're prior AF so is yours that way? Hoping that the trends from the last couple of years keep up and they take some of the waitlisters...

Hmm. You have a good point. It doesn't say which service I was waitlisted in - I assumed it was Navy b/c I ranked it my first choice (and Army second). Since Navy slots are filled but Army slots aren't, I figured that's why I'm on the list.

Good luck!

Congrats DeltaT, and everyone who got their letters today!! Yeah, mine is not service specific either. But I think AF is my only choice, since my release from AD AF is conditional on my acceptance. I don't think they'd let me out of my AF commitment in order to join the Army!

From the Blue Sheet we got at the interview: "The wait list is ranked according to the date of your interview, your overall competitiveness, and your current military status."

Does anyone know of anyone being waitlisted arny yet? There seem to be conflicting opinions about weather army is full at this point.

Well yeah, I would assume Army is full also because I applied non-specific and I got the waitlist letter. I assume that if Army had slots open, I would have received an acceptance to that service as would anyone else who wasn't prior service and didn't have a preference.

For people accepted AF: In case you are not getting your forum fix from SDN, there is another forum site for people attending OTS and COT. It is www.airforceots.com. There is some good info about COT, you just have to search for the right threads. You will need to sign up for a free account. I think you are class 10-05. There is no one in the class thread yet, but it will eventually be a good place to meet your future classmates (lawyers and nurses?) Hopefully I'll be joining you in the next few months!

Well this is awesome. Anything similar for Navy ODS?

Also, anyone else still waiting on their unconditional acceptance letter? I have been in touch with people in the admissions/commissioning offices, who have said that my letter is on its way out, but I haven't heard anything from them or received anything in a long time.

If it gets close and you still dont have the letter give the office a call. I had been thinking I had 3 weeks so for whatever reason got busy and wasn't thinking about it, ended up sending it right around 2 weeks and had no problem. I think there is a little give there, just don't let it go for a month and think they are going to hold your spot if you dont contact them.

I'm a little on the ocd side but I would send an email stating that you are waitng on your letter so you can official accept the offer of admissions. Obviously, word it better but you get the idea. Then print a copy of the email and save. I'm sure they build in some leeway to that two weeks but for cya pruposes start a paper trail.

No letter for me today. Maybe it got lost in the mail :meanie:. This waiting game is becoming a tad bit annoying. 11 weeks and counting.

I should add that if I get it, its well worth the wait.

So I called USUHS yesterday and found out that I was on the Navy waiting list. Does anyone have a clue as to what the chances are of getting an acceptance in this service? I am already medically cleared so I think that would help my chances. My waitlist letter is dated 1/27. I am willing to switch branches, but would really like to go Navy if I can.

They are still interviewing so you are early eneugh to be likely to gain a spot, but navy probably has the longest waitlist of the three services so you will have to wait longer to find out. I think likely overall for a navy slot, but is it worth the agony of additional months waiting to be sure?

Am I correct in assuming since I interview on 1/20 that I will not be hearing back till 3/20?

What kind of wait should I realistically be expecting?

Thanks...

Probably. I interviewed on 12/10, and am still anxiously waiting to hear back :xf:
They told our group at the interview that we should expect to wait 12 weeks, but I'm really hoping to hear something sooner (especially since it appears as though some people who interviewed on 12/3 heard something on the last cycle). Next week will be 8 weeks for us.

So just wondering if I don't have a preference for any branch of the military, would it increase my chances of being accepted?

Finally received my Unconditional this morning! Very excited. See ya'll Army folks at OBLC in June.

I am in need of some advice.

I interviewed November 19th, non-prior service, medically qualified, and sent my updated grades on January 4th.

As of today, it has been 11 weeks and I still have yet to hear anything regarding my status. I am trying to be as patient as I can, but I cannot help but feel a little stressed out. I really want to attend this school.

What do you think I should do? should I send a letter reaffirming my strong interest to attend USUHS, tell them that I will accept any branch they have to offer, or should I continue to wait in agony 🙁

Any advice/help will be much appreciated.

Call 'em and see if they have any info about your package. I called around the time my waitlist letter was going to be sent out, and they told me over the phone. I'm glad I did because I never received the letter--I called a few days later and had them fax it to my work.

Which number did you call? I tried calling the called the 800-772-1743 number listed on their website today but all it does is ring a few times and then go to a voicemail.

Thanks for the help!

I know it probably won't allay your fears at all, but I interviewed 10/29 and just got my letter a couple of days ago. Good Luck!

Wow! that must have been rough! I can only imagine. At least you received some good news.

Also, I was wondering if anyone knows if USUHS has been sending out rejections. According to last years thread they were sending out rejections and alternate list notifications as early as October. This year however, I haven't heard of one. This leads me to two different conclusions.

1) They haven't changed their policy and the people who have unfortunately received these letters are not on SND or are just not posting. (most likely)

or.....

2) The admissions committee are sitting on all the applications and will send out mass rejections in March. (Very unlikely...I hope)

Any thoughts?

We're having a bit of a snow storm out here right now (predicted more than 2 feet by the end of today). We had a early release yesterday so people could get out before it started - that may be why no one answered.
Try again Monday, it'll be over by then.
