when i saw that xmsr just posted I SWEAR I thought he was going to have been accepted already!!

Remember he got the 9/17 interview invite like 2 weeks before everyone else?

and yeah dru, i'm super anxious too!!

He also submitted about two week before me so I am hoping since we interviewed at the same time we hear at the same time. Could you imagine if we heard two weeks later. That would suck.

I am still curious as to how the tears were received. I have met mil docs that would be put off by it, but then I have known some that might start crying just because he is crying. Maybe we should start a betting pool....Any takers?

Too cruel. Funny but nonetheless cruel. Yet I can't help laughing.

So when would they determine if you need to be put on remedial at USUHS? Would they use you OBC weight? Your commissioning physical weight? Or the first PFT weight at USUHS?

I just taped myself and I am 18% body fat which is pretty close to the 16.5% my scale claims, so it shouldn't be an issue no matter which weight they use.

As you know I don't go to USUHS but I would imagine they perform PFT/PRT/PFA, whatever each branch calls it, twice a year. After the first one they would determine whether you are comfortably within standards or need to be placed on remedial. With your BF% I think you would be fine if they did it today, well provided you did moderately well on the push-ups, sit-ups, and run. I wouldn't worry too much about it now all you can do is keep working out and see how it plays out in due time.

Take what I say with a grain of salt, but I am not sure why you would be put on remedial if your body fat is within limits. I only say this because I was a PRT coordinator for my command, and I was "overweight". Since I hit weights like a maniac my bodyfat was way below the 22-23% cutoff, and I was never sent to remedial...I was the leader for the remedial PT. Maybe USUHS is different, but it wouldn't make sense to send somebody that is under the bodyfat cutoff to remedial.

This sounds about right.

You do an official PRT twice a year as was mentioned above. At that time they would weigh you and tape you if necessary. If you are able to keep yourself below the weight cutoff for your height you should be fine.

The Navy also did a PRT right when we arrived this year but it wasn't an official one. (it was just to identify anyone who would need to kick it up a notch before the PRT in October and everyone passed)

I am quite a nerd and read the instruction today and it gives broad discretion to the CO to implement whatever measures he sees fit for those near the body fat limits.

"COs may use discretion in enrolling other members for
participation in FEP, to ensure they strive to improve their
physical conditioning. Specific consideration should be given
for those members who are medically cleared, and

(1) score an overall "Satisfactory" on PRT or;

(2) have a BCA equal to age-adjusted standard and score
less than "Good" on any PRT event."

I was at a Marine command and if you didn't score at least an excellent our chief had the CO place you on remedial. So it varies by command. Hope that helps. And yes I know I am a dork.

you'll be placed on remedial pt if you fail to pass a PT test at OBC at least for the army.

Oh those crazy marines! I can't imagine what it would be like if they tried to make the minimum excellent at USUHS. Like half the school would be on remedial.

The Marines don't mess around with the PRT. No 1.5 mile run and pushups either. It is situps, pullups and a 3 mile run. Dru, what was the total score that was considered excellent?

We did the PRT (or PFT if you want Marine regs) for the PRT I think it was a 75. Our colonel could have cared less but our chief was uber-motto high and tight and all so it was his brain child and the colonol just signed off. We had a few that were on it perpetually. Not very effective because on runs they usually convinced the sergeant running pt they should be safety corpsman and ride in the vehicle.

Oh, I see. You still did the Navy's version, but had to get an excellent overall score. I was thinking you had to do the Marine version of the PFT. Either way you get props in my book. We had people late to command PT, because they were waiting for a cab to drive them the 2 blocks from the ship to the gym. Needless to say, the "culture of fitness" was still under construction when I left.

That is one thing I love about the Marines, they are all snap and pop. I work with quite a few marine assigned corpsmen where I am at and they remind me of the infantry. Its like being in prison, once you've been in that culture it is hard to be around "normal" people.

As to the "too cruel"...my mom always told me I am a bit of an ***hole. For everyone else's benefit I will try to keep the filter on.

That is priceless. Kinda bitter I never got to play on the blue-side.

RLTW, are you Army infantry? I'm glad to know that I'm not the only person who has to work at the PC game. Different communities, but it sounds like similar attitudes. Mission accomplishment was everything and PC and personal feelings didn't mean squat. Does that sound familiar? A little bit disconcerting at first, but I enjoyed having the freedom to give my true opinion instead of always having to agree with the boss.

I am a medic with an infantry unit. As far as the unit is concerned I am a part of the unit first and medic second so your question isn't that easy to answer. I completely agree though, if you can check your feelings at the door there is nothing like being able to express what you think without it hurting anyone's feelings. The world would be a better place if people were more like the grunts. Granted, there would be a lot more single mothers and bar fights, but you get the picture...

I'm about to leave work which means it's night time on the East Coast!

I really hope tomorrow brings good news for many of us (and future 1st/15th of the month for later interviewers).

Regardless of whether I get accepted to USUHS or not, I truly wish all of you the best throughout the application process and medical school!! :luck:

Thanks scooter. Good luck to you as well!

Good luck everyone. I'll be teaching all day tomorrow, but I'll check in periodically. I hope to see good news for a bunch of you, and maybe in a couple of weeks I'll get to join the party too .👍

Does anyone have any idea what time the admissions office would call us with the good news? Early in the day? Late? Just to be safe I will be up at 0700 which is 0800 eastern, that is if I can get to sleep at all tonight😀

I know that the office closes at 1530, which is 1430 central and 1330 mountain and 1230 west coast so we won't be left waiting long into the afternoon.

Anyway good luck and let the good times roll! Its almost party time and what a glorious party it will be!😀

Is that how the time zone thing works? I never could keep it straight. J/k, but seriously, man, if we both get in you and I are going to have a discussion about relaxing. If I find out you spent the entire day tomorrow at home studying anatomy or some such topic, I swear I'm going to have to kick your butt. You don't need it, but good luck anyway. I hope you get your party tomorrow night.

X, just make sure that you don't go "high order" if there is no call. They may not be as punctual as advertised and if you don't hear from them today you may still on Monday.
Good luck to you all. Just make sure you don't take my slot.

Yeah, I know that I'm not staying at work past noon on a Friday... I would understand if they didn't want to. Good ol' shore duty!

No worries mate, today I am just chillaxin and reveling in the good fortune of my SDN peers, no studying physiology, medical terminology or anatomy, (I start doing that on Nov 12 when I get back from my 3 weeks of celebratory mountain climbing in hawaii😀

As for that party, well I can assure you that it is well worth hoping it happens because I promise the biggest, greatest party of all time😀

I am talking about a bash that will become the epitome of wanton excess and include debauchery that would make the court of Cauligula blush😀

My family and I are going to watch not only the latest episode of biggest loser but also vampire diaries while feasting on turkey burgers and light progresso soup! Then as if that wasn't fun enough, we gonna get crazy up in here with a dessert of chocolate chip cream pies and oreo fun sticks, all washed down with diet sunkist😀

Good luck to all, enjoy the day and may all your dreams come true😀😀😀😀😀

This is just classic. You never fail to make me laugh, XMSR.

I don't know about the rest of you but I don't have any phone calls coming today, and I'm still planning on having a party tonight. Seems like the appropriate thing to do on a Friday night. I didn't tape Biggest Loser this week, but I'm sure I can find something else to do for fun. Anyone have any good plans for the weekend?

I have a three day weekend!! Monday is "Alaska Day" and since I work for the state, it's just another paid holiday...

maybe I'll get super crazy and carve a pumpkin!

Oh yeah, and hopefully this goes without saying, but TELL US if you get a call, everyone!! :xf:

Dude I'm so burned out from the wedding that I don't want to even see people this weekend. Alas, the old lady is having people over tonight so I have to be social. I'll probably take it easy and only drink 10-12 beers👍

I have a century ride scheduled on the bike for Sunday morning so I'm hoping the weather improves, but it probably won't. This is probably a good thing because I'm so out of shape right now my body looks like a melted candle. I'm doing crossfit right now and I'm so sore I can barely walk... sucks getting old.

Damned girl, I have heard of some hardcore parties but I would be scared to attend one of yours because you take super freakiness to a whole new level😀

Good luck all, no calls yet but I am sure that the admissions office is just having fun with us. Probably putting off acceptance calls until the end of the day just to make us sweat😀

I've got to wokr the next 4 nights.

Well today was the day I was supposed to hear from 3 schools, a call from USUHS and emails from SLU and MCW. Just got an email from SLU and they rejected me, which I have to say is a shock. I thought my interview went well and I was super confident about my chances.

Luckily SLU was the least nice school I interviewed at and so of all the schools to get rejected from I guess this is as good of a rejection scenario as I could have hoped for, (gotta find a silver lining somewhere right?).

Here's pulling for USUHS to brighten my day and life my spirits to new heights😀

I'm gonna be a doctor!!!!

Good luck to the rest of you!!!

Good work Dru. I'm really happy for you. You can never have enough squids around as far as I'm concerned.

3 MINUTES AGO! CELLPHONE CALL FROM CALIFORNIA! ITS DR. CALLOWAY! CONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE AT USUSH IN THE ARMY PROGRAM!😀 SCREW YOU SLU, I ONLY WANTED TO GO TO 1 SCHOOL AND I'M IN!

BEST DAY OF MY LIFE! GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE ELSE! Especially Scooter2, I can't wait to go to one of your legendary pumpkin carving parties!😀 I can tell that partying with you is gonna be sweeeeet! You so crazy😀 we gonna tear it up!😀

HAWAII HERE I COME BABY! NOW LETS FIRE UP THE GRILL AND GET THIS PARTY STARTED RIGHT!😀😀😀😀😀😀

I am simultaneously super happy for all of you!!!!

but also feeling like I might puke I am so nervous.

I have my cell phone in my pocket... but I'm getting worried!!

Maybe they did go home at noon... 🙁

Scooter a lot of people didn't find out on the first day last year... I know some of us got in today but it could be that they just don't have you packet all the way through the committee yet. People got phone calls the week after initial offers last year that interviewed on the first day. Get ready for a call in a week or so.

Grotto is right on. Don't read too much into not getting a call today. There are only so many calls that can be completed in a day. Enjoy Alaska Day and carve a pumpkin in preparation for having a party next week. By the way I have a pumpkin to carve this weekend also. Its going to be awesome. I always enjoy pumpkin carving time.

Grotto, NavyCy, and Dru, thanks for your votes of confidence.

I know it's not over until an actual rejection letter arrives, and it's nice to hear that several people in the same situation ended up accepted last year. I still feel sick though!! It's always the anticipation/not knowing that's the worst for me.

Tell you what, even though it goes against my normal way of thinking/doing things, I'll try to borrow some optimism and positivity from xmsr... if it's OK with all of you who are REALLY accepted, I'll join the facebook group on the assumption that good news is on its way in the future. I promise if I get rejected I'll leave!! 😉

Does anybody else feel kind of gipped that their state doesn't have a holiday? Why is Alaska so special? I'll take a day off from work anyday. Since this is the United States of America, maybe we should have a holiday for each state so that we can celebrate together. We can call it a camraderie exercise. Scooter, I for one will have a beer in honor of Alaska on Monday.

When I used to live in Nevada we had Nevada Day, which always fell on Halloween.... awesome. The good thing about military service is that we get every federal holiday - including Columbus Day and pretty much everything else you could think of.

JOIN!!! Its pretty slow around there right now.

Congrats! When were you complete?

Official "complete" email on Oct. 2nd, interview invite on Oct. 13th.

Thank you all for the feedback on my schedule conflict question; I'll be interviewing Nov. 5th! I'm Air National Guard and will not be on orders or active status: Should I wear my service dress blues? I'm thinking yes... -_^

Congrats to all you :luck:'s getting acceptance letters already! That's awesome, and really makes me feel like I'm running to catch a moving train! :scared:

BTW, is anyone else considering/applying to the MD/PhD program at USUHS?

Of course your welcome scooter. Grotto is right that group is like a ghost town.
