This is weird. I think Calloway may have called me last night, though I missed the call and can't think of why she would.

Can someone please check their phone and let me know if this is her number?

949-752-2876

It was listed on my caller id as Irvine Cali, which is what I remember from when she called to give me my acceptance. When I call this number its always busy, (which makes sense since she's probably calling a lot of people).

If she did call what did she say? Some news about USUHS? Confirming that we'll be attending?

95% sure that isn't her number. I recognized the area code when she called which makes me believe it was 619. Also a reverse phone lookup says it is an unlisted landline, hers is most defintely a cell phone.

Edit:Checked my cell phone bill and it was 619.

Hmm, looked the number up online and it looks more like a number that's been flagged as a fraud. People reporting it for trying to get bank/credit card info, etc... so it's prob better that you didn't pick that one up...

I live in Irvine, CA, but it wasn't me calling. 😉 Anyone else from So Cal?

For curiosity's sake... how far away do you have to go to require leave? IE if I go to Baltimore a lot, do I need leave everytime I go, or is that close enough that I'm still within the area? (I'm on the waiting list, so this is a very hypothetical question here🙂)

In the area is defined as a 50 mile radius from USUHS.

Just got my UC acceptance in the mail tonight! I am definitely attending USUHS.

I live in SD, CA. Us SoCal prospects should try to meet up and get to know future classmates - what do you guys think?

Just happened upon the US News and World Report rankings.

USUHS is 63 in research and 97 in primary care, but number 1 in debt load of students! What up.

Virtual high five grotto! 👍 +1

Welcome aboard sailor😀 (I believe PHS wears the uniforms and uses the rank system of the Navy). Of course when you get to USUHS and see how absolutely drop dead sexy we Army folk look strutting around in our ACUs, you may wish you had made a different service selection😀

To everyone attending USUHS, don't forget to check out the physical requirements for passing your service's Physical fitness test and start training now so you guarantee yourself that you don't have to do remedial training at USUHS, (I hear its a big pain in the ass).

Do you know when the physical fitness test will be given? Beginning/end of OTC or something? Not too worried-- soccer should have me in shape, but I stuggle with any upper body stuff (soccer players just have to have a good core and strong legs-- arms are overrated🙂)

Did anybody start a USAA account yet? Anybody know if our orders to USUHS are enough or do we have to wait for OBLC orders? Thanks

Just got accepted off the waitlist into the airforce. The call comes from a 301 area code number (Maryland).

Congrats! was it still Dr. Calloway who called you, or someone else? Interesting that people have different numbers they've received it from, but 301 makes much more sense-- it's mostly landlines in MD (240 are usually cellphones in MD -both DC area.. Baltmore side has a dfft area code)

Yep the call came from Dr. Calloway. Was starting to get a little worried.

Haha, I'm long past the "getting worried" point, if you can't tell. Of course, I'm also taking my MCAT again tomorrow, so that doesn;t help the anxiety. Still praying for that phone call though I keep telling myself that it's unlikely I hear anything until after May 15th.

BTW, DB85-- out of curiousity, when did you interview and hear you were on the waiting list?

congrats again🙂

I submitted my applications really really late. I think I put in my secondary for USUHS in late october got in interview for December 3rd a week later. Not sure the exact date I got waitlisted but sometime in February. I was pretty much convinced I would be waiting for May 15th as well. Goodluck it sounds like USUHS as more waitlist movement than most other med schools.

everyone loves unsolicited advice from someone who hasn't experienced what they are advising about. Even if its good advice (and this is), it's irksome. Just sayin.

Congrats on the acceptance! I was also convinced that we'd have to wait until May 15th to find out, but it's exciting to know that we all can hear back sooner than we thought.

Good luck everyone!

It may depend on what service you're in. For Navy, we took 3 tests at ODS, but you don't have to pass it to graduate. Then at USUHS we took one the week we checked in (so we checked in Aug 5th, and then took the PRT the Friday after that, so I think the 8th). It doesn't go into your record if you fail, it's just to see where people are and put you in FEP (fitness enhancing program) if needed before the first counted test in October (I think it was October, sometime in fall anyway).

I don't remember if the other services took one during orientation too. I want to say yes, but I can't remember.

And what is included in the test? I am in the same boat as act9- soccer player, with little use for arm strength. 🙂

Just wanted to pass this along. I've received calls from Dr. Calloway, Dr. Porvaznik (PHS), and Dr. Mican (PHS from NIH), and all calls were either from a 301 or 240 area code. Good luck to everyone! I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone in August.

The test includes push-ups (no head bobbing, arms must go down to 90 degrees), situps, and a run. For Navy, the situps are more crunches, for Army they're full situps. Navy and AF do a 1.5 mile run, Army does 2 miles.

Google your services' requirements (i.e. enter "Army PT requirements"). What you need varies by service and by age. I believe the Army does pushups and situps in 1 minute, Navy does 2, not sure about AF. For example, being a woman in the Navy with an age between 25 and 29, I needed 19 pushups in 2 min, 54 crunches in 2 min, and the 1.5 mile in 15:10.

You can usually find short movies on some websites that detail exactly how your service grades the test. For Navy you have to hit Satisfactory-High for all events to stay off of FEP - not sure how that translates to the other services.

I set up a USAA bank account a few days ago. I called and told them I would be attending COT in June-July and they signed me up. So far some features are unavailable to me such as bank@home where you can just scan in checks to deposit them, but i think these will become available once we go active duty. already love the online features and interface more than all my other bank accounts!

For the wifi on campus do you need to install software or is it just standard vpn? Basically I'm curious if my ipad is gonna be able to access the wifi or if I am gonna need to tether it to my phone. Thanks.

I don't know much about the ipad, but I didn't need to install anything on my macbook pro. When you first open a browser, you'll have to register your computer (put in your username/password from school which is the same thing you use to get into blackboard/passdown/email/etc), but that's all I remember doing.

Sidenote: I do recommend having windows on your computer. USUHS is a pc school, so I use a program called parallels to run cds and the histology program the school gives out.

If you can't tell, I'm procrastinating on studying, hence why I'm on here so much today 😛

Thanks my laptop is a pc so no worries there. Just trying to use a lighter device for day to day stuff.

For the wifi on campus...

Sprint is supposed to be opening up 4G service for the DC area this year. My verizon contract happens to be up next month so I'm switching and hoping to have mobile broadband coverage at USUHS... Just throw'n that out there. 🙂

Dr. Calloway called me on Tuesday from 301-295-3383. I'm pretty sure that's her office number.

Thanks. I've actually had sprint for quite awhile. That's why I'm exicted for 4g and the HTC Evo. It will still be slower than good wifi unfortunately.

Can anyone link me to the Class Profile for USUHS. I can't find it.

Thank you. The only stats I found were for the Class of 2011, and they were on page 63. They said that their baseline stats had stayed the same for the past 4 years though, so good info.

Good deal. I was giving you the pdfs page number not the one on the page.

Wow, 11 applicants per spot in the school... makes you realize how lucky we are to be accepted (or even waitlisted- hang in there you guys! May 15th is around the corner).

I am trying to order my ASU and for the "Dress Uniform Branch"- we are in "medical" right?(usuhs)

What does 'Student Acceptance Rate' mean? The PDF says it's 61%, but I have no idea of the context of this number. Even if you take the #spots/#interviewed, this is roughly 20%.

Hey Army folks, have you started doing the online homework yet? I just started on the CBRNE short course, but I hear it takes 8 hours to finish. It was also a pain in the @ss to set up the AKO account.

Army has y'all starting your computer based training already!?

We are actually Medical service corps till we graduate. Only those with an MD/DO degree are medical corp, so we switch at that point.
