I see a lot of concern over boozing, happy to see it. So what is the difference in Maryland, do they not sell beer in the gas station or grocery store? Do we have to go to "liquor" stores for hard liquor and beer?

In MD you have to go to a "beverage store" to purchase ETOH. In va you can buy anything except liquor at gas/grocery. HOWEVER I must note that the NEX that's under a 5min walk from USUHS has a super cheap liquor store in it.

oh noooo i forgot to set up my direct deposit with my financial institution... what do i do?! OBLC is tomorrow!

Every time I've dset-up direct deposit, I've done it through my employer not my financial institution.
bring a voided check and they should have a form for u to fill out. I know AF has a form for us to fill out..

woah what when did you get a direct deposit form??? or do we get this at maxwell?

Guys, don't worry about that yet. It's part of your in-processing when you get to your respective officer training. All you need is your checking account and routing numbers, both of which are on the bottom of all your checks. Doesn't require any setup on behalf of your financial institution.

call kush... couldn't hurt

Can any AF people tell me which list we should shop from when buying our uniforms; the one we received from USU or the one on the COT welcome package pdf. Also for anyone in the DC area who needs AF uniforms I was told we can get onto base at Andrew's AFB if we stop by the visitor center to get access passes.

There was a list from usuhs? I got onto andrews without a problem and got to purchase my stuff with my orders and drivers license... And I didn't stop at a visitors ctr or anything. Just fyi. And the dry cleaner/tailor is right next door.
I need to go back friday or monday if anyone wants a lil extra help🙂

the uniform shop at Bolling AFB is (suprisingly) larger than at Andrews. Its also a lot less crowded and easier to get on base there (as in they didnt take 20min to look at my orders and question me, they just let me on) So its a good place to look also

but yeah where did you get a USUHS list for uniforms?

Where do you send your oath? Do you send it to Mr. Kush in Tx? Can I get it done now or is it something that is done after we get to USUHS?

Yes-- send to kush. I thought we had to send that to get our orders... If I remember correctly, u can fax a copy of that...

On a totally separate note-- is anyone else from the DC area flying to COT out of national? I'm flying out the morning of the 28th and was wondering if anyone else was too...

For ppl who are flying - What time are you getting into MGM? Military bus for 4+ people so I wanted to see if that would be doable.....

I don't remember where I got the list from, i think it was in one of the emails, but it is a two page long word document. It was almost identical to the one from the COT website with the exception of a few extras. sorry i can't remember where I got it from. i can email to anyone who wants to see it if you pm me with your email address.

i'll be getting in at 0900 according to my itinerary... anyone else coming in then?

People who set up their move online, what did you put for your order number? I can not find anything on my EAD orders that is clearly my order number.

Look for block 21, "special order"

For my oath - can I just go to a bank and get a public notary?

Nice👍, thanks for the heads up.

I remember reading a while back somebody saying we had to give some little speech when reporting to COT? There was a proper way to do it. Anybody know what that is or where I can find it?

Also, what information are we supposed to have memorized prior to arrival?

hmm, havent heard anything about a reporting speech. I remember always having to "request permission to come aboard" when in the USNSCC in high school, but for land based services i didnt think there was a procedure. BTW any other former Sea Cadets here? Im thinking about volunteering with the DC (my former) unit while at school if i have the time.

regarding what were supposed to have memorized, a nurse i work with who finished RCOT in march said to know all USAF ranks, the father of the air force (billy mitchell, whose throwback uniforms = the best unif ever http://integrator.hanscom.af.mil/2006/May/05182006/060515-F-0055L-024.JPG ) , and the AF birthday. My ROTC friend said if you can find the OIs (on the welcome package page) try and learn them, but if you cant get them all beforehand its not a problem.

random question, does anyone know what kind of UA they run at COT? I figure standard UA w/o micro + tox screen. But i know at navy enlisted boot camp they also run like calcium oxalate screens and such, which seems super random, just curious if they shotgun our pee or not, not that i have anything to hide, just curious.

fresh from the COT page...

Trainees attending COT class 10-05 will not be required to purchase the Mess Dress uniform.

Awesome thanks.

I just remember reading in some other thread where a COT student mentioned being sent back outside to learn how to properly report for duty. Maybe that was for a different service (ODS, OBLC).

"sir/ma'am, Lt caniac reports as ordered" maybe?

Right corners to the desk (unless on carpet), stop centered 2 paces away, salute, say line , hold salute until returned, then stand at attn...that's what I'm remembering from ROTC at least...

I decided to go HPSP, but I'll see y'all in 11 days!

I was in Sea Cadets in high school. There's actually a unit that meets at USUHS - I haven't looked into it much though. You'll definitely have the time - in fact all of you should make time for outside activities. If you make school your life you will be miserable!

If it happens just remember that ROTC, COT, ODS and every other indoc type program will have some element of mind games built in. Don't take any of it (or yourselves for that matter) too seriously. You are expected to make mistakes because most of you will have never done anything like this before. The instructors are probably more interested in how you react under pressure than in whatever the task happened to be. That is my unsolicited advice. I hope you can enjoy yourselves. The military can be frustrating sometimes, but at least its rarely boring.

You salute when you're out of uniform in ROTC? :laugh:That's awesome.

That's the official reporting-in procedure. We practiced as freshmen in anticipation of field training after sophomore year. I was in uniform.

Maybe someone from 10-04 can answer for sure on June 25th

My collection of somewhat outdated COT and USUHS documents:

COT (OTS) Manual 36-2202

COT Welcome Package from 2009

COT Calendar from 2009

"Preparing for COT" Checklist

COT Syllabus from 2008

USUHS Orientation Guide for Class of 2011

We'll have our own updated version of all of these soon enough, but hope this answers a few questions for now...

I just calculated my total spent on military clothing items in preparation for COT: $666.60. I had some items leftover from my previous life in enlisted ANG. 👍

Do you plan to fill out that welcome package, or just do it at COT? I've thought about it but i'm not sure because I've only found an older version, wasn't sure if there was anything released more recently.

I figuredi'd fill out what I could... Don't think it'd hurt, and maybe it'll save a few minutes (and degrees of sanity) later? We'll see

Since this isn't even "our" welcome package, I'm waiting until I get there. I only posted those for reference, just FYI, to get an idea of what we're heading for next week. 🙂

How did ppl w/o ID cards get uniforms? We can't get IDs till COT and BX here checks ID going in and at check out.....

Which AFB are u at? I went to andrews and showed my orders and my drivers license as I bought my uniforms and didn't have a problem. Did the same thing at Ft. Dix/macguire afb...

Hickam AFB Hawaii

Did you ask? I'd call if possible, but like I said, they saw my orders and I explained that I was going to COT in a couple weeks and past that, I had no issues

I called and they said it would be ok

orders + ID. remember at this point you ARE a commissioned officer so you are allowed on base. also my rotc friend said if i really wanted to you can try and get a reserve ID (since we arent active till our travel date) if you have to on base several times (aka to pick up uniforms from alterations), but i just felt that was more work than i wanted... if they still dont let you on w/ orders + ID ask to talk to the OIC or the DO, they should know whats going on and help you.

Show them your orders at the gate, and if you still need a "sponsor" then your sponsor would be the manager of the Military Clothing store. Once at the store, you will be allowed to purchase uniforms to your heart's delight. 👍

If you live very far from a base, or that base doesn't have what you need, then I'm guessing we'll have time to get uniforms squared away in the first few days of COT, before the Independence Day holiday.

edit: It's a good idea to apply for that military star credit card, as well as a military clothing account FOR that card. If you do it right, you can get 10% off your first day's purchases, and interest free credit up to $500 for uniform items.

In the memorandum I got with my orders it specifically says to complete the inprocessing forms before you arrive at COT, and I think it's also on the "preparing for COT checklist" I haven't found one specifically for 2010 and the welcome package on the site was last updated in 08/08.....I think that's the one we're supposed to use. The site that is listed on the memorandum doesn't work, the COT address changed, but if you use http://www.au.af.mil/au/holmcenter/OTS/COT-RCOT/welcomepackage it takes you to the same documents that were previously posted.

Heads Up: ABUs will shrink significantly when washed & dried at medium heat. FML. 👎

Lmao, you gonna have to buy new ones? How much money have you invested in your current ABUs?

I have 3 sets of unwearable ABUs. That's ~ $300 wasted after alterations. Stripped rank & tags. Buying new ABUs on Monday, will wash them thoroughly before bringing in for alterations again. What a pain - I liked my BDUs just fine... >_>
