id say she means that a lot of people who have been accepted to UAB are carrying a few other acceptances as well. That's good news for those of us still in contention. I am curious as to where she is getting her info though.

If South is waiting until after April 15th, then I would think that they are waiting so that those accepted to UAB have used up their 2 weeks to make a decision in order to keep their own rates high when they send out acceptances. So if my speculation on that is correct, then anything after this Friday would not give them two whole weeks so is UAB has any straight acceptances to give before sending out the waitlist, I would expect them to be tomorrow or Friday. Again, that's all just speculation but I'd be shocked if at least some of us didn't hear from UAB in the next 2 days.
 
Sorry, I tried to answer this from my phone twice, but the connection was sketchy. Anyways, I can't say who told me, just that it is someone that I trust. Sorry. The advice is usually, but not always, on the money.

Tully is right, I meant that apparently some of the people accepted to UAB have acceptances to multiple other schools. I know they're using my brother to try to recruit one in particular. But hey, they won't all come to Birmingham, right?

Maybe we'll hear this week, maybe not. I agree that South is probably waiting on UAB. It seems as though many would prefer Birmingham to Mobile whether for curriculum, location, etc. It seems to be like a chess game.

I feel like I'm waiting on my letter for Hogwarts. 🙂

basically, it was nothing. they had a list of "recommendations" for admission committees that didn't really say anything besides, "we think they should set a final date and stick to it."

Only retake if you are scoring 3 pts higher on all the AAMC practice tests. A 28 can deff get you in as long as your GPA and EC are good. There has already been a 27 MCAT and 28 MCAT accepted to UAB so we know it is deff possible. We also know that a 33 MCAT can keep you out. MCAT isn't everything. Make sure you have ECs that say I really want to be a doctor! as I'm sure you probably do!

I was making 35s and 36s on my last few AAMC tests, and I made a 32 on the real thing....but there's no way in hell I'm retaking it. The 32 is not what is keeping me out. It's probably what is keeping me in contention at this point.

After following and reading for months, I have joined specifically because of this comment. And yes Chop Suey Inn is the s***. No question. I'm in the same boat as alot of yall: applied/interviewed at UAB and USA. Still waiting on both. Good luck to all of yall.

I agree a 28 can definitely get you in (got me in). Its only a small part of the entire picture. To me UAB valued research, shadowing, and hands on volunteering a great deal.

This is insanity!! Are UAB and South in a contest? Whoever blinks first buys dinner? I can't help but think the new health care bill has something to do with it but have no clue what the relevancy could be. Maybe both schools are just trying to read it all first.. I guess to get patients, you must first have patience. But mine is running low.

This sucks. We're so obsessively compelled to receive, arguably, bad news. UAB, just hit us already.

It's like being at the gallows, and the damn thing won't work right. And you sit there waiting, heart racing, while people around keep saying "Alright, surely this is it, now!". But lo and behold, it is only April Fools day. And you must wait longer for your inevitable demise.

Maybe that whole scenario is a bit dramatic. Not sure a waitlist can be compared to a death sentence, but it certainly doesn't feel like the kind of good news an acceptance certainly is.

Haha good analogy. I feel like last year they couldn't get the gallows to work right either, and after what seemed like an eternity of waiting, the floor finally gave way. But what do you know, on my way down the rope snapped and I came crashing to the ground, so they had to walk me back up for round two.

God I hope I get upper third :xf:
 
Hey guys! After following for weeks I thought I would finally join. 🙂 BY THE WAY: I almost had a heart attack after the "waitlist is up" joke.

I am sitting on a 27S (horrendously ill during my MCAT...go figure), and a 3.96 GPA. I got accepted to USA three days after my interview but my heart is set on UAB....so I'm anxiously waiting with you guys...and I feel like we will NEVER hear back.

This place seems to be stirring a lot lately... I think everyone is getting very very antsy.

Normally I'll check on here before I check my email.. I feel like I need to know if I should brace myself while checking my email account.

I've graduated... I really wish I would have taken 5 years there though, it sucks to move away!
 
I got the Birmingham campus assignment today! maybe it means they are going to wrap up the rest of the process tomorrow or something.

1. On April fools day, anything goes. I've had way worse jokes pulled on me. From pregnancy jokes to dead dogs.

2. I said it was a joke 18 min afterwards.

3. If you can't take the stress from a joke how are you gonna handle medical school stress?

4. I am stressing out about UAB as much as you are ERS who is obviously a girl by using the word "cute".

5. Sudden increased heart rate is good for the cardiovascular system.

6. Bears eat beets. Fact.

7. I'm sure we will find out something tomorrow. Whatever happens, happens. Good luck to everyone.

8. You can all be sure that karma is an evil b**** and I will prob be rejected.
 
Well I hope we all get in despite the odds. I saw the list of days when people were notified about the waitlist, but one of my close friends said that many applicants were not notified of their place till April 13th last year. SO....it would be terrible if some people found out tomorrow/soon and others did not...I'm sick of waiting. I'm sitting in class at Campbell Hall checking my email/application status every second. This constant anxiety is getting old after two months...and most of my friends have already been accepted at UAB🙁
