Hey,

Does anybody know what kind of activities we can put for the school activities section for the secondary application? Does being in honors program, or working as a tutor, or taking a leadership class, or taking a religion class outside of school for the past 5 years count? Don't really know what I can fit in there...

Does anyone know how long it takes for the letters of rec to appear on the status page? I submitted this secondary and sent my letters from AMCAS letter service more than a week ago, but my letters still haven't been received by UCI yet. Thanks for the help!

No secondary for me either. What is UCI's cuttoff for sending an interview? I'm from San Diego, and received a secondary from UCSD last week. UCSD is a higher ranked school. What gives? Do you think UCSD took my San Diego residency into account? I have not received any other UC secondaries. Should I still expect them? My AMCAS was certified June 10.

Rankings dont matter. UCI will reject those witha 4.0 and 42 mcat if they dont like them. They dont care as do most schools. Just because you get a UCSF or UCSD, it doesnt mean all the other UCs fall in line because they are "lesser" in your rank.

They are not lesser in my rank. I'm going off of MSAR and US News. I would be thrilled to go to any UC. For that matter, I will be happy if I get into any American med school.

I'm in the same boat, its been a while now, almost two weeks. I'm considering sending an email inquiring about my letter packet in a day or so, but I think they must just be busy with the class of 2009. I need an update, I'd like an interview invite

Don't worry about that. They will mark the application complete after they have collected everything. It takes a couple of weeks. I guess after that point they start reviewing your application. Good luck.

I'm not sure if you understand my question though. UCI has collected everything needed for my application (LORs, 2nd app, fee) and dated their receipt on the status check page. But then my app is still not marked as complete?? Why??

So if you already sent in your LOR before your secondaries, it'll probably take almost half a month for them to mark it complete. I sent my secondary in on 7/27, and my LOR were sent before that, and I just got marked complete.

Well, if it helps, my academic stats is just a bit higher than yours and I got a secondary invite from UCI. But I didn't get one from UCSD, so congrats to you on that.
GPA: 3.6 overall, science 0.02 below overall
MCAT: 30

Update: also I just got my application marked complete. Thanks for all of you guys' help in answering my questions. Weird, my app was marked complete 1 day after my LORs were marked received. The admissions lady on the phone told me it may take 2 weeks.

well thats kinda the point of prime-lc its to go beyond just speaking spanish and knowing the latino community. They are looking for people who are seriously passionate and going to really attempt to reform that area of healthcare, just not practice i nit.

does anyone know how UCI will look at applicants that transferred from their undergrad to a different school? i have solid reasons for why i transferred, and i'm happy to say that none of those issues are present in the med school level (which is why UCI is one of my top choices), but im worried that i might get screened out out of vindictiveness. what do you guys think?

no worries they are not going to screen because of such a stpid reason. Calm down thats the last thing you worry about. They will look at you like any other undergrad who did not graduate from UCI.

Should be fine? I called the dr peterson about a situaiton of mine and she told me to use () for something? I didnt think it meant dont use any at all...

I uunderstood it as () is ok just not only one (...but i could be wrong...in the end its fine, if theres a problem and they are interested, they will get back to you .

Wow, seriously? You are way too stressed my friend. Do you honestly believe this is going to matter to the adcoms? I'm sure if your app was good enough to receive a secondary that you will not be xed out due to a typing error.

Well no, the concern is that the direction said using a ( will mess up the formatting of the application. So instead of a coherent essay the adcom will just see stars and chinese symbols and stamp the application "insta-reject"

if my one month deadline were the 25th, and i assign all my letters to uci through amcas on the 25th, is that considered meeting the deadline, even if they haven't uploaded it yet?? i know they take a week or two to upload it, but if they required it to be uploaded by the deadline then i won't make it because my last letter writer is putting on the finishing touches. do they want it uploaded by the deadline or just submitted to amcas by the deadline?

I emailed them about this (I have a similar problem), and they said that they're a little lenient about the deadline at this point in the process.

If you wanted to be sure, though, you should call them.

Yeah, the other schools with deadlines that I've contacted have been very easy-going, especially when it comes to LORs. I think the deadlines are just to make sure they don't get flooded with thousands of apps in the final week, so a few days to download LORs won't kill your chances.

btw, I emailed UCI about this also, but haven't gotten a response yet.
