Interviewed 10/30, waitlisted!

Did you find that out today? And did it to your knowledge send you an email as soon as your status changed? Just checked my status page, and nix. I would hate to wait another week, then again it's better than the months of purgatory that almost every other school puts you through.

I just spoke to a very nice woman on the phone regarding their timeline, since I have been complete since the end of July/beginning of August and have not heard anything.
They interview, according to her, through the first week of March and only hold 2-3 interview days/month (I think I remember someone else here saying that as well). They only started interviewing at the end of September, so there haven't really been that many interview days so far.
She unfortunately was not able to give me any more information than I could see on their website re: my status. Apparently the committee just gives them a list of interview invitees twice a month or so and they send out invites.

Accepted! Found out today via email/status update.

congrats man!

I figured I'd be waitlisted - I did not jive well with the MMI. They really couldn't have picked scenarios I could have performed weaker on. Oh well. The school was beautiful, though. You'll have some tough decisions to make!

ACCEPTED!!! Interviewed 10/30. Absolutely loved this school. Got the e-mail on my phone earlier but couldn't log into the status page until just now! Congrats to everyone else!

Accepted!! Interviewed 10/30. This is the first school I have been accepted at where I have the chance to pay in-state tuition for three years, so I am very excited. Gorgeous facilities too... couldn't be happier!

I didn't really like the MMI last year either, one of the reasons I decided to withdraw from my interview this year. I find it a bit troubling that a school would put so much weight on an unproven system for selecting candidates as well.

Thanks. You will too!

I still don't know how I feel about the MMI. It was a nice change of pace, but I don't have a good feel for whether or not it's a more/less valid evaluation tool than a standard interview (which, the way med schools do them, I don't think is particularly valid to begin with).

I'm sure I'll see you at a second look day/weekend, eh?

Hopefully! I know you're in at Case, how about OSU?

And then maybe if Pitt ever decides to show us some love :meanie:

Yeah, in at OSU as well. We'll see which I decide to go to...I suspect it will be OSU since I'm about 5 minutes from Case and can visit any time.

YOu said to reply if we wanted to learn more about the MMI. I have an interview coming up and am kinda freaking out with their mode of interview. Pls, kindly enlighten me.
thanks

Edit: Sorry, I had responded before I finished reading the forum. I got my answers already.

I'm trying to schedule a flight to Cincinnati... stupid me didn't realize it was near Christmas time and tickets would be so expensive. 🙁

But anyways, that said... my interview check-in time is at 9am. Will I be there until 5pm? Just trying to figure out when would be the best time to schedule a flight back...

Nope it's not an all day thing. My interview day started at noon and ended at maybe 4??

Hmmm... anyone with a morning check-in time able to comment with their experience? I'd prefer not to be done by like 1pm and have to wait until 8pm for a flight back if possible. 😛 I just tried calling the admissions office and keep getting routed to voicemail.

Oh and good luck to you calimed!!

Thanks golf! This whole process can be pretty stressful, so I appreciate the support. 🙂 And a super congrats on your acceptance!

Has anyone who was accepted from the 10/30 interview group received your "place-holding" paperwork yet? I assumed they mailed it out at the same time as they sent the emails, which was 11/12, so I'm worried that mine got lost in the mail somehow.🙁

I got mine yesterday, but I go to school in the state of Ohio. I'm assuming you're out of state?? It might take a while to get there.

Hey thanks! Absolutely loved this school and I hope you will too! I think there were 2 or 3 interview groups that day. I was in the last group. The first group ate lunch with us at 1 (after their MMI's). Then they were free to leave. We were actually done at 5:15 or so. Hope that helps a little bit more! But hopefully someone from the morning group will comment as well.

I interviewed the same day and was in the middle group. We did our tour and the various presentations in the morning and had our MMI at 1:30. We were done at ~3:00 PM. However, I should note that our meeting time was earlier than 9:00 (8:15 maybe? I don't remember exactly).

Paging Rockaction for the schedule for the early interview group... 😉

i had a morning MMI. checkin at 9, mmi overview till 10, MMI from 10:30 to 12. Then tour, lunch, and presentations till about 3:15. the 1:30pm MMI group also left at 3:15.

Hey thanks for those details. That definitely helps with planning my flight schedule. 🙂

Hi,

I was wondering if there is any public transport from the airport to the medical school area and vice versa? if yes how long does it take? How did you OOS students get around in cincinnati?

Thanks for all the help in advance

i don't think there's much in terms of public transportation around there. i took a taxi to my host and back to the airport from the school. definitely try to split a cab with someone because it runs about $40 each way

Public transportation isn't as good as a lot of other cities, but it does exist. When I came for my interview I used the "2x-Airport Express"
http://www.tankbus.org/
to get from the airport to downtown cincinnati, and then the 78
http://www.go-metro.com/schedules.html
to get from downtown up to the school near where my host lived. The latter has a trip planner and city map with all the routes if your host doesn't live (or if your hotel isn't) right by the school.

If you have a lot of money to burn, the cab is always an option, but the bus option is <$4 each way as opposed to $40+. Just make sure you have a few $1s on you as they don't make change. It may take a few extra minutes to plan your trip this way and print off schedules, but for me it was definitely worth it.

As always, if you have more questions, or want help figuring out which buses you would need to take, feel free to PM me.

Hey everyone, I just got an invite for December, I was complete in late July, so I guess there's hope for everyone.

For those of you who stayed with hosts, was it helpful?

I got an interview for Dec. 2nd but it doesnt look like there is anyone else on here for that day

Interviewed 11/13, got waitlisted 11/18.

Does anyone know what the odds are of getting off the waitlist? I thought I had a decent shot, GPA was a little low (3.5) but I had a 37 MCAT and lots of clinical/volunteer experience. Also, I'm in-state.

Do any of you accepted students have a link on their medonestop page that says "information for the 2009 enter class?" I have the link and it has really useful info, but it is for the 2009 class and not the 2010.

I have the same link for 2009. They probably just haven't updated it yet.

ha ha...am glad I initiated someone. Well, see you there.

Im again in need of help from my fellow SDN members,
I decided to drive to cincinnati for my interview on Dec 02. I will be staying with a student, however my question is: what are my options in terms of overnight parking? my host lives around warner street, a mile from the school, is the neighborhood safe and any street parking available? any cheap parking structures around?
thanks for the help in advance

Hi,

You will not have a problem finding parking around Warner especially in the evening. During the way you can try parking on the main campus and ride a shuttle or walk to the medical school. Also University Hospital has parking by the hour that you can use if you would rather have your car close by. the hospital is connected to the medical school and folks will be more than happy to direct you.
