Any December interviewees hear back yet? The holidays really messed up the 2-3 week turnaround time. 🙁

not yet... I interviewed 12/18 and Dr. Manual said we should hear in 4-5 weeks/end of January, so I'm thinking the 12/11 people should hear later today and my group should hear next wednesday

Nothing from the 12/11 people yet... crossing my fingers for sometime in the next two days though. Please Cincy let me in!!!

I interviewed the week after you. I really hope you hear soon too, lol. Because that means my results can't be far behind. 🙂 I heard decisions are entered by hand into the system W-F, so hopefully you will know by this friday!

Alternate List. I interviewed December 18th. It was on my status page and I have yet to get an email.

Oh my goodness, I just got in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀😀😀😀😀😀

I'm at work and literally started jumping and scared my boss, hahaha 😀

btw, I interviewed 12/18, and no email either- I just checked the status page

I interviewed December 11th and just checked my status-- Alternate List. Is that a glorified name for the waitlist, or is that something a little better? I'm probably just being too hopeful.

About the Alternate List, it's the same as a wait list. Last year, I got ON the list in December and never got OFF the list, but that's anecdotal and I think there is decent movement. They don't look at your application again until 5/15 though, as far as I understand. I withdrew on 5/18, then some people got in right afterwards... be patient.

Everyone who got waitlisted-- don't be discouraged! I was in your shoes last year. There is definitely movement on the waitlist, but it varies year-to-year. And if it doesn't work out until the next cycle, it's really not the end of the world (although it felt like it at the time!!). Honestly, taking a year off has been wonderful and very refreshing. Hang in there!!

declining my interview here. hope one of yall get it! good luck guys.

i just found out today im interviewing there on tuesday so thanks if you were the one who gave me the spot! lol

Crashing.....

One of my friends was complete early Nov., interviewed in Dec., and was accepted today.

Good luck to those of you still waiting to hear!

Did anyone get a status update today or will it be tomorrow?

Interviewed 1/15, no news as of yet. When did you interview?

1/15 too. I wonder who you are because we had 2 large groups that day. Called today and the lady said she would update things soon as she got word so some would hear starting today and some tomorrow. I guess we have to wait. Just hope it doesn't spill into next week. The wait is killing me. lol

I know that this may seem a bit premature, but I've already to decided to go to UC this August and I'm wondering if any current students can give us an idea of where to live. Some nice places in Cincinnati already have waiting lists for the summer...how crazy is that?

I don't want to spend too much, but I wanna live somewhere nice - distance is not a big deal cuz I dont mind driving everyday, but the closer to campus, the better. The financial package allots ~$1,750/mo for expenses and because I'm tryna become an Ohio resident for 2nd yr, I can't get help from my family who's OOS...just living off the loans -not tryna break the bank.

Yeah...it's true, I can check apts out during second look wknd, but I'd like to get an idea as early as possible since waiting lists have started already. I really appreciate any feedback. Thanks a lot!

Yeah I totally understand what you mean. I am from Cincinnati. Most med students lived in either Blue Ash, Hyde park and Mount Adams. Mount Adams though is a hip part of Cincinnati where parking can be a problem and not so sure about the noise levels either. Hope this helps.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that there will be no second look.

I just moved to Cincinnati this summer and if driving is not a big deal for you and you want to live somewhere nice, I'd say to check out Hyde Park/Oakley (~10-15min drive). Blue Ash is a little further (~20-25min) and you have to take the highway, which can be a pain in rush hour, but since we'll be studying so much, I doubt we'll be driving home at rush hour most days haha. And just a tip, on rainy/snowy days everyone drives slow and it will take you forever to get home. If you want more specific info/help, PM me 🙂

Also, class of 2014 fb group: http://www.facebook.com/#/group.php?gid=234806579591

Thank you guys for all the housing info...keep it coming 🙂

And calimed, although I can't be absolutely sure, I've heard that there is a 2nd look, the 1st wknd in May.

Congrats sauce1! Best of luck to u on ur interview - you seriously don't have to prep for it as much as u may feel compelled to do so. I'm sure u've read the thread for interview feedback but if u want more specifics, PM me & I'll be happy to help.

Some of my classmates live a bit further away and take the highway, so it is definitely do-able. But for the first two years, you'll have class starting between 8am-930am some of which are labs/clinical experiences which you have to be on time for, so you will be dealing with rush hour. Like I said, it's doable, but don't go into it thinking that you're not going to have to deal with rush hour. Third and fourth year, a lot of the time you will need to be in long before rush hour begins.

There is Stetson, literally a 5 minute walk from the med school where about half of our class lives. It's a bit more expensive, but it's close and a lot of people live there if you want that sense of community. I personally live in Gaslight/Clifton. Single bedroom apartments are a little pricier than you might find over in Hyde Park, etc but if you get a roommate or two, it's great. I'm paying 360 a month (which includes utilities/cable/internet) and am a 15-20 minute walk from the school or a 5 minute drive.

As for a second-look thing, there was one last year which we didn't hear about until closer to the event, so it's quite possible there is one this year. I'd call to find out for sure.

Not to sound pessimistic, but has anyone been rejected from UC yet? I have been complete since August 28th and haven't heard anything. My status page has also been the same since that date. I just want to know where I might stand as far as my status is concerned. Thanks for your help!

I received an interview invite yesterday, and from what I could see, there are four dates available ranging from early Feb to early March. I was complete wayyy back in June (although my MCAT score wasn't released until mid-Sept & OOS), so as far as I can guess, you're probably still in the running 🙂

Thanks so much for your reply. It's a nice feeling to know that I potentially still might be in the running lol. If there are only 4 interview days left, I hope I will receive one of them. I am OOS also and it seems as though you and I both had to wait quite a long time. If you received an interview invite just now and were complete a month before me, maybe mine is coming up! I am trying to stay positive here. Thanks again!

No news today either huh? Maybe tomorrow or next week then. The wait goes on.....

I've been living in Cincinnati less than 10 minutes from the med school for ~5 years now, so if you have any questions, PM me. Now that I've helped a future student, tell the admin committee to interview me since I only have to drive 10 minutes. Heck, I'll take the spot of a last-minute cancellation even! 🙂

So I called the school today. There IS going to be a second look weekend. Dates for it aren't yet available. The school is meeting/planning for it beginning next week and an email will be sent out with details within the next few weeks.

Also does anyone know of any good housing near the school that is pet-friendly (ie: has a fenced yard or private/fenced patio, etc)? Or any dog parks and things of that nature near campus? I'm OOS and going to be moving with 2 dogs. Cost isn't that big of an issue. Coming from CA, I'm used to paying $800 or more a month.

Hey cali, did you see the email? We got our date! Welcome wknd is March 26th (much earlier than expected). Congrats to all who have been accepted - I'll see you then! 🙂

I got the email! 🙂 I sort of wish the date they chose was a little later, but ah well. Any other OOSers planning to go? I'm excited about meeting potential classmates.

OOS, and I plan to go! buttt...airfare is so expensive 😵.

My airfare for the interview was a lot cheaper than it is now :-(. I'm hoping the price drops some.

Congrats!! What an awesome birthday present!

You guys are right... non-stop flight right now for me is about $600. :scared: And even the flights with layovers are in the $500 range. Hmm.. I think I'm going to wait to book until more information comes out like the itinerary and whether we're allowed to bring family members and such.

Do any of you know when they stop sending out interview invites? I'm still waiting for any news....hopefully good

really like this school. havent heard anything yet since September. OOS. Anyone else in same boat, and anyone know if they sent out pre-interview rejections

when did you interview and if you dont mind sharing your stats?

Um yeah, I do mind sharing stats since I don't know anyone on the thread, but I did interview on 1/15. But I was complete in like July, anything is possible. I was told at the interview that they were around halfway filling the class, so around 150 people or so still have a shot, may God bless you all.

LOL! Thank you. I'm definitely gonna take advantage of your offer & PM u for more detailed info. I'm praying you get an interview. Best of luck!

I interviewed on 1/15, and was accepted 2/3. When I interviewed, I was told that approximately ~250 of the ~310 acceptances they offer each year had already been offered. Turn around time is 3-4 weeks. If you interview, they have a Q&A session with the dean of admissions, and they are very transparent with how the whole process works, when the committee meets, etc.

It is my first choice school and I have already confirmed my acceptance. I am OOS but have strong Midwest ties. Good luck to you all!

I also LOVED the MMI. I am an older non-trad who worked in healthcare, and it was actually alot of fun. Don't really worry about preparing, you can't really do so.

Oh, and if you didn't know, this school is GREAT, including the new CARE building, the faculty, and the students. WOW.

Thats weird at our interview they said they only have 15-20 offers left and there are still 3 more interview dates after ours (interviewed on 2/3). So thats not looking to good

I am fairly sure that there are *not* that many spots left. Waitlist turnover varies widely between year to year. I know at least 2 people in the current med class who were accepted from waitlist so there is hope if you do end up there.

yes but too bad they are almost out of acceptances. People interviewing later this month or the 1 date in march will probably only be interviewing for the waitlist. Also i was confused with how they pick ppl from the waitlist it seemed somewhat random when he explained it at my interview

oops, my bad, wrong school. I wrote down 250, I was thinking of somewhere totally different. well good luck anyways.

When I interviewed in December they were saying they may only interview through February and were hoping to cancel or only use the March date as a backup in case another day gets canceled due to snow or whatnot. Not sure if that's still holding true or not but I wouldn't count on the March interview date being totally available.

Hey all,

just invited to interview here in six days. honestly not sure if i will attend or not. I currently go to school an hour away so getting there should not be a problem. i have always heard great things about UC, just not sure if i would attend over another acceptance.

could someone please explain to me their experience of the MMI? Thank you.

Basically with the MMI -- there will be several stations set up, each with a different interviewer. All interviewers are totally blind to your application and not all are MDs or faculty. Some can just be regular members of the community. Each station consists of a room with a scenario or other interview question taped to the door. You have about a minute to read what's there, then when signaled, you enter the room and talk to the interviewer for the next 10 minutes about whatever you read. At the end of 10 minutes, you will be signaled to get up and proceed to the next station. Rinse and repeat. The number of stations varies. I had 8, but I know another interview group in the afternoon only had 7. I think 6-8 is typical.

I think the unfamiliar format was a bit nerve wracking for some people. I did horribly at the first station, but got better and actually had fun as the stations progressed. I got accepted, so I don't think you need to do wonderfully at every single station. So don't let your performance at one psych you out for your next one. I also don't think you can really prepare for this type of interview. I didn't do any prep at all. 😛

Hey MacBook...congrats on the interview! In case u decide to attend, here's some info about the MMI. The last post is completely correct. It's soooo easy-going. I had 7 stations when I interviewed & had so much fun. I think there were 1 or 2 stations where I felt that I fumbled but I still got accepted, so you don't have to do an amazing job or anything. Just think before you speak, be friendly, and be yourself.

No prior research is necessary whatsoever (this is seriously not a lie...i thought it was, so i practiced with MMI questions from the internet & read up on ethics and whatnot. Believe me, it's pointless).

Topics touched on during my MMI include:
-Dealing w/ stress
-Cultural competence
-Communication skills (w/ another interviewee)
-Doctor-patient confidentiality
-Time management (balancing work & family)

Well I hope this helped. Congrats on ur other acceptance(s) & best of luck to you if you decide to interview at UC.
