Well that is good news. If three of us haven't heard anything yet, then that points towards a delay in decision. Ill post up as soon as I hear anything. Thanks for keeping me in the loop everyone. 👍

Not sure if they are doing things differently this year (it's quite possible), but the way it worked last year, was that the decision was made on Wed, but depending on how busy they were, sometimes it didn't get entered into the computer until Thurs morning. Last year it varied from week to week whether people heard Wed afternoon or Thursday morning.

I'd hold off on calling unless you are a week overdue or so. I know you're anxious to hear (trust me, I still remember), but if this year is anything like last year, someone will post here once they start changing statuses and you'll know.

Sorry if this is going to cause you to be checking email compulsively tomorrow. :/ Good luck, I hope you hear soon!

Yup, I know that happened to me and I was accepted relatively early in the cycle. I heard around 10am on a Thursday, even though we were also told they would post on Wednesday. Delays happen, you just gotta hang in there. I will say though that my status was changed on Medonestop BEFORE I got an email telling me so. I happened to look at my status around 10am on that great morning on a whim...and the email came about 11:15am telling me I had a status change.

I'm surprised at the whining (yup, that's what it is) about the MMI. It is what it is...get over it. Why even debate it? If you don't like it, withdraw and let a worthy candidate take your place. It's not going anywhere for awhile, because they're going to wait and see how the first class who was selected by it does in Years 3 and 4 and in residency to gauge its effectiveness. From what I understand, more schools are looking at it and running trials. It's not that bad, and the method of interview is not going to be the reason you are waitlisted or rejected...it will be your performance!

Good luck to all you guys...UCCOM is an awesome school and gives you a first class education!

I haven't heard anything on my front yet. Anyone else?

Same here, haven't heard anything and been complete since early July.

Anyone know, what's the last interview month? Thanks.

If you look at the scoring rubrics available online, most of what actually gets scored has little to do with your actual answers, the exception being evaluating how well you've thought about them. You can answer pretty much anything you want, and as long as you are non-confrontation about it and not closed-minded to the fact that other people may have different opinions, you can score well. While a person may be able to make themselves appear more interesting/humorous/fun to be around in a regular interview, I think MMI gets at, if not your views and beliefs, how well you can think on your feet, how understanding you can be of other view points, and how well you can compose your thoughts under pressure. Other than academics, leadership, and character (which pretty much every school relies the standard app and letters to assess) I think those are some of the most important qualities a doctor can have.

That being said, I'm not entirely convinced of the research saying people who prepare for the MMI and have the questions in advance do no better than if they hadn't prepared (I'm pretty sure I read something along these lines last year). However, you can be coached just as much for a traditional interview, and at least this way there is a bit more spontaneity involved. It's kinda like how the MCAT gives you all 500 or so essay prompts that could be used, but I'm not convinced that really helps anyone that much. Schools also write some of their own questions/scenarios from time to time. Given that schools have only been doing this for the past 5 years or so, I have no doubt that it will continue to evolve over the the coming years.

If my experience with the MMI last year is representative of what it entails, then preparation certainly helps a TON. There were loads of ethical situations, all of which were very typical. If someone just reads up about the typical ethical situations, like how to treat a patient who refuses treatment based on religious/cultural beliefs, then it would certainly help a great deal.

Some of the "oddball" questions, OTOH, do test your critical thinking skills, but once again, I'm not arguing that point. I'm simply stating that it's much more difficult for the MMI to test your personality and character due to the very limited interactions between each individual interviewer and the interviewee and the predetermined set of questions.

Alt list 🙁 can someone explain what that means here?

I was just informed that our youngest daughter was accepted by Cincinnatti today!! I know it is early in the cycle, but we are hoping she will attend.

😍

Anyone know, what's the last interview month? Thanks.

I had to reschedule my interview from Nov all the way to Feb...so they are at least interviewing out to that month. Don't know how much farther out though...

First acceptance! 🙂

accepted!!

Congrats, guys.

😍
And congrats to your daughter.

Not a rejection? But it does also mean you're in purgatory (with a chance of acceptance). I'd suggest a letter to the adcom if you have any updates that would contribute to your application.

do they send out rejections?
Seeing that they offer fewer acceptances than interviews, I'd say yes. It would be posted through MedOneStop. Not sure if a letter gets sent as well.

does anyone happen to know their average step 1 score? i cant find it anywhere on their website.

oh, and info about if they have a free clinic too?

thanksss

Anyone know if this is a silent-rejection type school? Been complete since August and no word since then...

There is a free clinic called MedVouc where med students treat the homeless. average step one score for last years class I think was 233-234. one or the other. Im not sure which one.

From what I could gather from the interview feedback from this year, I believe their average step 1 score is 234. No idea if they have a free clinic.

Free clinic? - Yes, MedVouc (as described earlier)

Step 1 score? - They just released the preliminary report for 2009 - average was 231 with a 99% pass rate. National mean was 222 with a 93% pass rate. Not sure if the final report will have different numbers...but if you ask Dr. Manuel at your interview, or just send him an email, he will gladly tell you the numbers.

They definitely send rejections, because I got one the first time I applied two years ago!

So AMCAS screws up & gives me a 33M & on recoring 33N (I think they still have it wrong. I should sue them to really give me the right score). Anyway, the question is, should I call up every program I am applying to, to make sure they see my new shiny score or will the programs automatically consider my new score.
Any experiences/suggestions?

probably not, because it sounds like you got a 33

who cares about the writing score?

MMI time. Seeing the controversy of this thread, I'm totally interested in seeing what's up.

Post MMI assessment: wow! That stuff is off the hook. I have no idea how I did, but I don't think any of the stations went too poorly. Some parts were really fun, some were dreadful.

I thought it was hilarious that at the start of the day, the admissions guy made reference to an "unnamed website" and talked about how much misinformation is spread to applicants about the admissions process. I love hearing a school's opinion on SDN...all of them seem so negative. So take what you hear on SDN with a grain of salt, everybody! haha

That's about the summary of my experience as well. All in all, though, I actually had some fun with the MMI. I can't really speak to how effective it is at picking good medical students, but I don't feel like traditional interviews do too well in that regard either, so it's kind of a wash. If nothing else, it was a fantastic change of pace.

Also, Cincinnati's medical education building is gorgeous.

Yeah, those facilities were amazing. The nicest I've seen so far...better than Pitt, Case, Vandy, and OSU for sure.

Okay, I just spent about half an hour writing a long review of this school, but I figured I should wait until AFTER I get my acceptance/rejection/waitlisting because seriously, that admissions guy must have referenced SDN half a dozen times with contempt. He'll probably find my username, trace the IP and use a geographical hashing to determine my location and identity, and then burn my application. 🙁

Well, probably not. I'll post a very in-depth review in another week or so. Long story short, I had a very positive experience, the least of which was not that cute redhead who ended up being my partner for the team interview. 😉

I'm glad to hear so many positive reviews. I interviewed at UC a few weeks ago and enjoyed the MMI. Dr. Manuel didn't reference SDN at all on my day though, so he must be responding to the war that broke out after decisions were sent (go figure).

aaaaaaaaand I know who you are 😛

Well, as long as you're not the dean of admissions, I guess that's okay.

On 10/30 there were 6 groups of 7. So like 42 people. Two groups went at a time, so there were 3 blocks of MMI throughout the day. I was luckily in the first group...so we got to chill for the rest of the day without worry.

In the 1:30 groups, it was groups of 8, so I think we can assume it was somewhere between 42 and 48.

You guys must have had one more station that us, then! For us, station 6 mysteriously was closed off.

Station 6 was a "Rest Station" for us. Of course, I started at station 7, so I got to sit around for 10 minutes for the last rotation.

Nice. I would probably feel anxious for all of the "Rest Station"...thus its potential goes to waste

I walked into the room, and of course, there was a computer there and a scenario sitting face down on the exam table, and I was so tempted to check my email, but then I remembered that those were the standardized patient rooms and had cameras in them and what not, so I just plopped myself down and did nothing.

Hello, I thought I would come in and join the discussion🙂

Anywho, I was just wondering.. How long did it take for you guys to receive your interview invitations? I've been complete early September and the waiting is starting to become nerve-wracking! Brings the saying "Hurry up and wait" to life!

I've toured the med school in the past and have shadowed a surgeon there and it really is a great place! I truly hope to go there and I'm starting to get nervous. Thanks for the input!
