I thought the admissions office said they re-review files that were put "on hold" in december and again in january. I haven't seen any action on here or anyone getting off hold. Anyone have any idea what is up with this?

That's what I heard, but I know a guy that called up there and asked the admin folks about the "on hold" applicants. He said that he was told: the committee may or may not give more acceptances in late december or early january, but that was not for certain, and that she didn't know if or when the committee may meet again to do so. They did confirm that in the past there have been acceptances given around this time of the year.

All that being said. I wonder how many people get accepted yet don't post their acceptance on here. Do any of you, who go to school at UF, want to go look at the "pictures" on the wall in the admin offices and see if there were more acceptances recently?? And what the heck is up with them telling interviewees that they're gonna right off accept 50% of us, post-interview? My one friend had them say that at her interview....

I'm curious how many acceptances they actually dolled out after my interview. With the lack of posts on here I wonder if they accepted anybody.

I love UF by the way... 😍

I am with you on that one. I do wonder how many acceptance have been given out. And at my interview, they said that they usually accept 60% post-interview eventually, and that last year it was 70%!!! Also, they told us (I have an early October interview) that most of us would be put on hold. They have to fill the class by sometime in March, so I expect some movement soon... maybe. Sigh.

UF only accepts 1 or 2 people out of the 10-15 on the interview day. The rest are put on hold until March. The school wants to interview everyone, and then pick the ones they like the best (opposite of rolling admissions). I would think 25% of the class or less has been filled at this point, most likely less.

I hear you though. It sucks to be this far in the process and still not know where you're gonna be next year.

Just got the inevitable "on hold" email. I'm not too surprised though. My first interview went really well but my second was definitely shakier. I still feel good about my chances, however.

Come on, UF. You're my top choice! Show me some love.

Just got accepted to UF! I'm very excited. Was very impressed by the students and faculty when I interviewed.

Congrats!

I am a student at UF right now and I saw on here that ppl were asking about someone going by the admissions office to look at the board with the pictures of the accepted students on it, so I went by and took a look at it a few minutes ago. There was no one in the office for me to ask ?s about it bcuz they were out on interviews. But I cud see the board thru the window n I counted 40 available spaces. I don't kno if that means that the pics of the students r just those that have been accepted or the ones that have confined that they r going to go to UF next year. But I think it's the # who have confirmed. So, I think that means that there r only 40 spots left! This is my undergrad, so prayerfully they show me sum love!

Even if those people confirmed that they will attend UF, they have until May to change their mind. I am willing to say there are more than 40 seats left?
I heard UF puts a lot of people on hold post-interview?
How could you count the spaces? I saw the board before but it was always dark in the room when I looked.😛

Does anyone know about how many interviewees attend each session?

When I was there interviewing (wayyy back in September) there were 16-18 people there. Don't remember the exact number off the top of my head. And yeah, the people working in the admissions office said that the majority of people are put on the waitlist to "give everyone a fair shot" at a seat.

Well, there was a light on in the room. lol. I'll try to explain how I counted the spots. The way they have the board arranged, its like there is a little spot for every pic. But its not like they r n a straight line. Its like a huge box, with lines arranged for the pics, but they r placed kinda put all over the place. Like say for example a row goes 1-5 then the row under goes 6-10 and so on. Its not like they fill 1-5, then 6-10. Its like there is a pic in 1,3,4,7,8,10. So u can c where a space is available for a pic to go. That was a lot to explain that. But it's kind of hard to explain. So, if that makes sense, that's how I counted the spaces. lol

i think the board shows the people who have been accepted and who have sent back the deposit to hold their place in the class, but this does not necessarily mean they are 100% confirmed/committed to UF. i know i'm up on the board, (haha one UF SDNer actually went and saw my picture) and i have not made a final decision to attend UF yet. so in actuality there are more than 40 slots potentially open

This is true, perhaps if you count the pictures we'd have a better idea of how many slots are open. I remember them mentioning they accept over 240 or 270 people... or something crazy like that... I can't imagine there are 200 pictures on that board...

Perhaps you wouldn't mind going back over and counting the pictures!? 😀

WOw!
Are those numbers including the people accepted off the waitlist?

Thanks for the explanation. I think I understand now. 🙂

Hey, that is the number of outright acceptances. Last year I think it was 70% of interviewees... what happens is that almost 100 of those acceptances end up not accepting and go somewhere else, which gets you back down to their current class size. I do not think that includes the waitlist.

Then again, all of what I say could be wrong, I am trying my best to draw on my memory here... perhaps someone else can validate my statement? And go count the pictures!! 😀

It's only people who have sent in the deposit AND agreed to have their picture put on the board. I don't know why anyone would mind their picture being displayed, but some people might have declined. Mine is up there 😀

Congrats to everyone who was accepted, and good luck to those on hold!

Does anyone know if UF is lenient on the LOR in terms of who we get it from? For example, can the science letters be research letters? I haven't established any relationships with my science profs yet and I'm wondering if that will be a problem. I've done research for four years though and I know I'll get good rec letters from them.

Anyone know when this school reviews its post-interview holds? From the looks of this thread, it hasn't happened yet but I thought they would in January

i believe on my interview day they said they would start looking at the holds in march

I was told that we'd be informed of "on hold" decisions in mid/late March or early April. At that point, you're either accepted or on the waitlist.

Thanks, guys. I guess its back to the waiting game 🙂

Got an interview invite today!! The dates I had to choose from were 2/19, 2/26, 3/5, and 3/19.

still holding out for one here, but you've given my glimmer of hope at least another 24 hour lease on life...thanks haha

when were you complete there? i know you knew this question was coming 😀

Haha...I did know that was coming. I forgot to include it in my original post and was too lazy to go back and edit it. I was complete on 11/10.

Congrats Allie! I was complete 11/18 so maybe I still have a chance? LOL - Good luck! :luck:

Anybody know where we can find apartment listings near Shands? I'm gonna be in the area in April and I'd like to check out some apartments near the hospital/school.

Some apartment near Shands include the Bartram, Wildflower (both within walking distance), and Oakbrook walk. I heard med/professional students tend to live at the Bartram or Wildflower because they are both new. Several other apartments that are on Archer Road are also near Shands.
Hope this helps.

Just for your info, I spoke to Allison in the office. For those of us on Post-interview hold, here is the deal. The interview season ends March 19th. Shortly after the end of the interview season, the commitee reviews ALL of the post-interview holds at once (apparently most people who are interviewed are placed on post-interview hold). At this point, they will either accept (according to Allison, this is the decision for 70% of those on post- interview hold), reject (rarely), or add you to the alternate list. You should be notified of the decision in late April.

I am hopeful!

Thanks for the suggestions, they've been most helpful!

Some of these sites have fairly recent reviews of the places mentioned:

http://www.gainesville-rent.com

http://www.apartmentratings.com

and to a much lesser extent

http://www.apartmentguide.com/apartments/Florida/Gainesville/

http://www.ratemyapartments.com/ratings/FL/University-of-Florida/

if asked, search by zip code 32608. Although, there are apartments all over Gainesville, and of course students can ride the bus for free. Several run right by Shands.

:luck:

I live in Museum Walk (if you're looking at a map of campus, it's 34th st and Hull Road, literally a short walk from the museums). The bus ride to Shands is like... 10 minutes tops. I think it's the only off campus neighborhood on a campus bus route (as opposed to a city bus route), which means it's always empty.

Late April or Late march? I had heard the end of March is when the decisions are made by. That's getting relatively late.

Is it just me, or is is next to impossible to find anything on their site about the curriculum or an example of what the 4 years entail? I've looked in all the obvious places (admissions, medical education, education, and then some!) and I can't find what I want. Does anyone know where I can find info about that?

She said end of April, but it did seem rather late to me. Maybe she meant end of March? She definitely said end of April, though.

Anyone else who interviewed on 2/19 get in? One of my interviewers called me Wednesday, the other emailed at the same time. Pretty excited but gotta figure out still which school is for me.

If you were there that day, I was the older guy 😛

Hey, I remember you! Congratulations! I was the the Asian guy in the group. Another friend (who was at the session) and I both got accepted as well.

My other friend got put on hold. 🙁

I am n complete shock right now. I just received an interview invite!!! I really didn't think it was going to happen for me here. I didn't submit my application until the day of the deadline! (for financial issues). Does anyone know the acceptance rate after interview? What do u guys think my chances r...I'm IS and a UF undergrad student.

Hey Congrats!

I was told the acceptance rate after an interview is 70% but I believe it includes people who were accepted off the waitlist. I am not sure.
Apparently if you are offered an interview at UF, it is because you are highly favored for an acceptance....they really want you, at least on paper.

Some people are outright accepted and some are put on hold post interview.

Good Luck!👍

They tell you at the interview that they accept about 70% of those who are interviewed.

Edit: guess I should read the posts after before replying, lol

Would you'll who have been accepted please give information:GPA, MCAT, research or whatever you think helped you the most?

I had a 4.0 in biochem at UF and a 34O MCAT, and I'm on hold, would just like to know what the ppl who got accepted had. I didn't have any research though, shadowed 3 ppl and volunteered 2 semesters at Shands along with alot of EC's like music sports and groups etc. I am good and genuine in interviews and am very likable, but not much of a suck up.

I'm on hold at UF and FSU, and am waited for UCF to schedule one for me. USF hasn't said anything and neither has Hopkins. I was stupid of course, and didn't finish my secondaries till early november or late october depending on school. My uncle is a doc at Hopkins and he said they probably accept those with good research or graduate degrees first, trying to see if that is the reason or if there are just alot of impressive students applying.

<<<< See MDapps profile. Look at earlier pages in this thread for other applicants who might be able to help you out.

Also note that on the interview day they told me that they place a lot of people on hold at first, and then take them off the waitlist once they get a better picture of the applicant pool as a whole. I think it's something like 70% of interviewees ultimately get accepted? Hope this post helps.

received an interview invite for here today. The two available dates were march 5th and march 19th- i jumped on the later one cause i'll be on a cruise on the 5th! so they're still working on apps!

yeah check out mdapps (you can actually "search profiles" for people who were accepted to UF in the 2009-2010 cycle). and i wouldn't give up hope on UF - they do end up taking ~70% of their interviewees, so you have a great shot.

fwiw i had a lot of research and teaching but no clinical volunteering and minimal shadowing.

Got an interview invite yesterday too! And also took the later date because I'll be on a cruise (how ironic)... Guess I'll see u the 19th! I'm so excited I got an interview here! Alma mater love =)

And for those of you waiting for an interview invite, I was told yesterday that the 19th was the last possible date for interviews (I may be mistaken but I don't think so). I wouldn't give up hope yet, not until like the day before. Goodluck to those of you still waiting!

Interviewed here today. Very pleasantly surprised. Can't wait to hear back next week.
