I think the days are going by slower than the days between MCAT test and score release! Is there really this few of applicants to OU on SDN?

No kidding... and to think, at least another month before we hear anything.

No activity on SDN probably because OU isn't at all friendly to OOS with no ties.

Edit: Yay, we made it to page 2!

Not to sound too mean, but thats what I am hoping/counting on. Sorry OOSers.

I've been e-mailing her pretty regularly now and she keeps saying, "When I have time." Originally she said last week for mine, but that didn't happen. So I'm still waiting. I'm getting anxious because I've already had one interview and have an invite for another, I don't want to be late in applying or getting accepted just because of my letter, over which I have 0 control! But it's probably just me stressing out...

My committee letter has finally been uploaded!

Well one more out of the wood work... lol

Yay for two pages...

But just like other threads I'm active in, I am sure this thread will get much more active once the invites start.

And another one. Just thought I'd chime in and add myself to the list of OU applicants. Supplemental submitted on 08/10. Just waiting now.

Re-app from last year. Got a waitlist spot last cycle, hoping for better news this time around. I am currently scheduled to retake the MCAT on Sep 12, but now I'm not sure if I can, due to my job requirements. I know OU really wants an MCAT retake, so I'm not sure how this is going to hurt me if I'm not able to take the test.

//side note// wow new "blog note" icon added to bottom right of posts...

Yea, mine was done end of July. Not that that was late, but I had everything else done at all the schools way before then including 2ndarys, other than OU who took ages on theirs...

Does anyone know if OU allows for deferment a year if you're accepted?

Can somebody PM me to confirm that the secondary does not have essay questions? I need to update the first post and the secondary application thread. Thanks!

Hey guys! I just wanted to stop by and say hey. I was a devoted SDN reader for the two years I applied to OU. We just started school last week, and all I can say is that it's worth the wait and all the hard work you've put in thus far.

That said, having gone through the application cycle twice (and experiencing the painful waitlist) I am here to answer all the questions I can.

Just by skimming the discussion so far, the little equation thing doesn't really amount to much after all. OU does care about the numbers, true, but interview can definitely outweigh the other stuff. Also, unless something has changed, the supplemental application has no essay.

Hey kdogg,

Nice to hear from ya man. It sounds like we were in the same shoes. I graduated in 2007, have been doing clinical research since then. I applied first time last year and got a January interview, and a waitlist spot. But unfortunately it didn't come down to me.

I've already submitted everything for this year, my round 2 I guess. My only regret is that I won't be able to re-take my MCAT - I am scheduled for the Sep 12 exam, but now my job has to send me out of town on that date...I'm hoping it doesn't hurt my app. I've heard that re-apps get to the top of the waitlist, so if I get another interview like last year, I'm relatively hopeful.

I'm reallllly interested in knowing if OU allows deferment if you get accepted - a situation in my personal life my see me want to start med school in 2011, but I want to get the app process over with.

Just thought I'd post that the interview dates this cycle are Oct 21, 22, Nov 17, 19, 20, Jan 7,8,14,15 and Feb 4,5.

As far as the equation, my understanding is it is mainly for selecting the order of interview invites. Applicants interviewing in the same round/timeframe are critiqued based on much more than the equation. Just what I have been told, don't know how accurate, guess we'll see.

Hey! So good job on getting everything submitted for this year. OU really likes determination and reapplying immediately is the best thing you can do. About the MCAT: my score was the reason for waitlist and reapply. At the application workshop, I was told to retake. However, I got the same score. In the interview, the discussion wasn't so much that I didn't go up, but that I did sit for the test again. In your situation, if this circumstance is out of your control then that is your best explanation for not retaking.
The rumor from this past waitlist cycle is that yes, about 8-10 or so previous waitlisters were bumped to the top of the waitlist. I'm not sure if this happens every year but the '08 cycle had a crazy waitlist of 91 and I think they tried to make up for that.
About deferring, I have no information on that. One person I know did defer his acceptance because he wanted to travel with doctors without borders? or something like that. He actually never traveled and started the next year. You would have to talk to the office once you get that big red envelope. 🙂 good luck, keep me posted

what was your previous MCAT and section scores if you don't mind me asking?

what was your previous MCAT and section scores if you don't mind me asking?

ah yes...previous mcat 25 10b 8v 7p

phlame-i checked out your mdapp thing. you look pretty solid. i bet at least november interview and a nice red envelope 10 days later. keep me posted.

Thanks I appriciate that, just keep tabs on my MDApps but Ill keep this thread updated too. I really hope to see the BRE by October 30-31 (pending an Oct Interview). Just me being very optimistic lol.

Yeah you sound like a solid candidate. I mean, I have a 3.07 cumulative GPA and a 30 on the MCAT - so OU score of 10.75, and I got a January 16, 2009 interview. Yours is like an 11.94 - you're gonna get a nice early round.

My hope is to get an interview before the new year this time. As a reapp, I've heard they look a bit more favorably on the application (though I don't know if that translates into "points" added to the OU score). I just wish I could take the MCAT like they suggested, but it's out of my hands. I let Dotty know awhile ago about the situation, and she made sure my file mentioned that I was registered for the exam until this arose. I guess it's the best I can do.

GL to you and I've always hear OU really does have a preference for Reapps

Question, I suspect BRE is an acceptance but what does it stand for?

BRE= Big Red Envelope
Your acceptance comes in a big red manila envelope. You can't miss it 🙂

Hey, this is my first post and I'm a fellow OU applicant. Does anyone know when they might start sending out invites for the first round of interviews (not that I think I'll be in the first round)? Oh yeah, as far as stats go....I've got a good GPA @4.0 but my MCAT is a bit weak: 9v10p9b. I guess that gives me a score of 12.17ish if I'm calculating correctly.

Scratch that last post. I spoke with admissions today and they said that notification for the first round of interviews should be late September.

Cool glad you called and found that out! It confirms previous years experiences, when interview offers started going out the third and fourth weeks of September.

GL to you and I've always hear OU really does have a preference for Reapps

Cheers, that's good to hear!

Dang I'm pumped for Sooner Football back this weekend!

Late this month on the interview dates? The suspense is killing me. 13.1 OU score, so we'll see...

Does any one know, are OOS students well represented in the earlier rounds of interviews, or does admissions push them back to later in the cycle?

The rumor I heard was later, don't about the accuracy of it though.

If you look at last years OU thread, the OOS applicants needed a much higher score to gain an interview. Many of the OOSers had really high scores but didn't interview until later in the process. Plus I think it was mentioned there was only around 40 OOS interview spots.

Thanks for the info j-one...after I read your post a single solitary tear fell down my cheek. So much for an October/November interview...🙁

iin-state with an 11.4 OU score.....11.5 really isn't the cutoff for an interview, is it? how are people with 10.75 getting an interview then??

No, people below 11.5 definitly received interviews in the past. 11.5 for an in state applicant in the past has typicallygotten a first or second round interview.

Hopefully they'll give people with state-ties a closer look and not set the interview score cut-off too high for them!

11.5 is the line considered to be competitive, not for an interview. At least it was for last semester. The way my adviser explained it to me is those who got above typically got the October and Nov interviews and those at or below fell in January and February.

The suspense is killing me... Anyone heard anything?

We wont until the week of 21st if we're lucky and if OU is consistent with the past years, it may even be the week of the 28th.

I have SDN-induced paranoia, I think. Every time I check on this thread and there's a new post, I automatically start panicking about how someone must have received an invite and OU's rejected me and forgotten to tell me, or some similar worst-case scenario.

Then I read the post and realize that I'm being a neurotic pre-med. 😳

When is the earliest interview day?

Womp:

Just thought I'd post that the interview dates this cycle are Oct 21, 22, Nov 17, 19, 20, Jan 7,8,14,15 and Feb 4,5.

..
Sorry to do this to you knitress, I feel your pain

Ahh, I'm too lazy for my own good. Thanks just one.
10/21 is just a month away, so we should probably hear from them about invites soon. This week, next week?

OU typically sends them out this week, or next. Always has been before the end of the month as far as I know.

No email for me yet.

Someone at my school got an interview invite on Friday , really high stats (30+ and close to 4.0)
