I'm sending an email to withdraw from my interview spot (12/18). Hope someone is able to take it. Congrats to everyone who has been accepted - Rochester looks great - and good luck to people waiting on interview invites/post-interview decisions.

Can people who have interviewed, post on interview feedback..it would be nice to see some updates on what you guys thought of the place. Thanks.

Really liked Rochester. Interviewed there pretty recently. The students were really nice, my interviewers were great (not stressful at all), and the facilities are really great. I really like their curriculum too. I also like that they accept around 40% of the people they interview. 🙂

I went in thinking I wasn't going to like it, but it was a pleasant surprise.

Ok, I do love the area and really hope I get in. It may in fact be my only chance..Rochester is the only interview offer I have received so far. I keep getting the general consensus that it is a very stress free environment..I just hope they like me lol. I'm glad to hear all went well with you and hopefully we will be in the same class.

I've only had three interviews so I know the feeling. The interviews were really conversational and laid back. Just have answers for any kind of question mark in your file (for me, I transferred twice during undergrad and they asked about that). Also, the standard why medicine? why rochester? why not a nurse or PA? were asked...but not in an adversarial way.

I talked about how i really liked PBL and it seemed to resonate with the interviewer. I was lucky enough to sit in on an hour of PBL before my second interview, so I felt I had a lot to talk about there.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips. I know they will be helpful. I have so much to do to get ready...I cant wait for semester to end.

Some people just don't understand and that's sad... Danny has saved my life more than once lol. How was Philly?

Philly was nice! The city was great and the new building at Temple is simply breathtaking. We'll see how that turns out though. I've learned after my first interview experience not to get too excited and involved with the school until you receive a nice little package in the mail (which has yet to happen for me). Loved it there.

So excited to simply get in my OWN car and drive on my familiar 390 South to the U of R this Thursday however! 👍

Yeah so true about being excited. I still cannot stop myself being ecstatic about Rochester. Good luck on Thursday. I am so glad my first interview is at home.

Quick question ---

I know Rochester has the URWell free clinic, but I was just wondering if there are any other free clinics / community outreach programs that one can get involved in as a student.

There are 2 sites for the URWell clinic and beyond that, I don't believe we sponsor any other free clinics. As for community outreach... we have a bunch. So much so that a good amount of people graduate from here w/ a distinction in community service. I don't have an all-inclusive list for you, but on interview day you receive a sheet that gives a list of all the activities/groups we have going on here.

I just got the word last night that I got accepted to URochester. I am so excited, I loved my experience while interviewing there. Good luck to everyone else. I interviewed on 11/18 and received word via phone, email, and my online status.

AGH! I reeeeeally want to go here, and the waiting to hear is driving me nuts! ...sorry, just had to get that off my chest.

Also, for those of you invited to interview/ accepted, what were your numbers like, if you don't mind me asking? Mine aren't stellar, so I'm starting to think that's why I haven't heard anything. I have a 28Q MCAT, and my GPA is in the 3.5-3.6 range. Is that enough reason to get kicked to the curb?

I feel like Rochester is not one of the schools to cut-off people on numbers alone, despite what some people might think. I recently had an interview with numbers only moderately better than yours, mostly in the MCAT department.

Even though their average GPA and MCAT are high and it is a very prestigious school, Rochester defiantly looks beyond the numbers. I have a MCAT score of 27M and a GPA of 3.4... and I was offered an Interview. So, hang in there.

Oh, that is SO good to hear! I guess I'll just keep waiting...as if there's anything else I could do. 🙁

Wow, what a quick turnaround! Congrats!

I'd be ecstatic to hear something in 3 weeks (I just interviewed here on 12/4...really liked it!)

I cant wait for my interview. I know the post-interview suspense is also going to kill me. Good luck to everyone!

Yay!! So good to meet you today!

Great to meet you too! Thanks for stopping me... was the first time I've met an "SDN-er" 👍 Rochester exceeded my expectations, especially in regards to the curriculum. I've never seen so many elective blocks offered in 3rd and 4th year at any school I've visited.

Now comes the agonizing wait... 👎

You're not alone in the waiting room. I got a package notice at my campus address this week and my first thought was that it might be a fat acceptance packet too big to fit into my actual mail box.

Hey, I interviewed about a month ago with pretty much identical numbers and was accepted, so don't give up! It is possible!

Also, for those accepted anybody 100% sure that they will be going to Rochester.

I don't interview till Jan. 11th, but Rochester is my first choice. Therefore, if I receive an acceptance, I will 100% attend. I love the school and the area. I can only hope they like me during the interview lol.

Awesome! Let me know if you ever have any questions!

anyone interview late october/early november and hear a decision yet? status still says invite...

Me too, I interviewed first week of November and am still waiting...

Have there been any recent interview invites here? The invitation front seems to be awfully quiet.

wait-listed today via email (snail mail soon too apparently)

IS, interviewed 11/2

Here's to hoping they have a lot of wait-list movement...

do they reject anyone pre-interview before Jan 15? I've had that 'you are complete and a decision will be made by Jan 15' for months, am I correct to be expecting a rejection mid January?

They've given out quite a few pre-interview rejections already, so it's not too late to be given an interview. When I interviewed they said that only about 600-650 applicants get interviewed out of 4500-5000, and they do notify those who don't receive an interview.

I got an interview invitation on 11/23, and the interview itself is 2/15.

Keep the faith. :xf::luck:

For those that have interviewed (or might know the answer to this question),

Who should we send application updates to?

Thanks!

P.s. -- If you do get an interview, make sure you actually complete those essays they send you and make sure you do it one week prior. Otherwise you might find the interview experience a bit uncomfortable ( I speak from first-hand experience.)

Just wanted to let you guys know that I sent an email tonight to withdraw my application. I had an interview for 1/4. Hopefully one of you guys can make it. Seems like a great school! Good luck.

A few more days until the interview!! So excited and a little nervous. Visited the school today to find out where I need to go. Real easy to find so dont be stressed out to everyone out there.

Also, even though they suggest for you to park in the parking structure by the main hospital entrance, you should park in the smaller lot right by the SOM entrance. It's gated but if you pull up and tell the guard that you're interviewing at the school and they told you to park there, he or she should open it. This works as long as the lot isn't being reserved for a special event, which is fairly rare. Plus the interviews start early enough that there should be lots of spaces open. Also, the nice receptionist will validate your parking 😎.

I got my interview bumped up yesterday from 2/15 to 1/18 👍. So that should free up a 2/15 spot in case anyone is interested.

hi all. i'm pretty new to this website but could really use some advice when it comes to rochester. I have an interview at the end of january. I was wondering if my chances of having a good interview/being accepted will be hurt because I didn't do much research during my undergrad. I have a lot of clinical experience (I've been working full time in a hospital for over a year) and my stats otherwise are good. Basically, doing research taught me that I don't really like doing it.
I'm kind of worried because i see a lot of interview feedback discussing questions in the interview centered around research and the school has a strong reputation when it comes to research.
It also has a reputation for turning out good clinicians, though. Can anyone please give me a heads up?? U of R is one of my top choices, plus i love danny wegmans and the great sandwiches he makes.

Absolutely agree on the Wegmans subs, Danny's Favorite is my favorite too!

Regarding the interview, since it's closed file they won't necessarily know that you don't have a strong research background unless you choose to reveal it to them. Most of the questions I received regarding research was more along the lines of asking whether I see myself focusing more on clinical or research as part of my training and future career. I was perfectly honest in saying that research doesn't particularly interest me and that I prefer clinical work and they seemed to be happy with that answer. I think you'll find this interview to be one of the most "get-to-know-you" types around, so feel free to be completely open and honest.

I was accepted into Rochester with very little research experience!

Thanks for the tip. I am probably going to avoid the hassle and stress of parking all together and have my dad drop me off on the way to work.

Yeah I parked in the front lot right next to the school (with the clock thing in the center). I paid the $ for parking though... whatever.

Well, I remember at the end of the day the receptionist would ask for your parking ticket (if you drive) and she would stamp the ticket so you do not have to pay for parking.
BTW, for those of you who have not heard anything yet (pre-interview), do not lose your hope - someone just got an invite yesterday and was scheduled for interview around Feb. 10. :luck:

No worries about the research. If you got an interview invite w/o it, you have just as much of a chance as anyone else. People's interviews are centered around research because they list research as one of the activities. You do hear a lot about research when it comes to Rochester, but that's because we have so many opportunities to take part in it.

So don't sweat it... you'll do great!

Happy New Year everyone!!
