Yeah, so I'm pretty sure I got waitlisted (my email didn't say anything about an acceptance packet, only that my "letter" was in the mail) 🙁

Anyone get waitlisted yet???

hey, Tatchle1
what was your letter about? Did you get waitlisted? I got the same e-mail, just curious of what I could expect to find out inside of the envelope...

Just curious to know when did you have your interview. I hope you get in by the end of the cycle🙂

I haven't gotten my letter yet. The subject of the letter was in all caps and said my "letter" was on the way. This discourages me a bit cause i've heard from the people that got accepted that their email said "YOUR ACCEPTANCE PACKET IS ON THE WAY." So my first guess is a letter is on its way saying I've been waitlisted (I can see no reason for a rejection letter, to be honest).

I guess we'll see in a few days. I'm in Knoxville, and thought it would be here by now. The wait is killing me.

I feel your pain. You are right. It is probably not a rejection letter since it is so early in the cycle. Let us know as soon as you get the letter. Good luck!

Hey everybody. Got that letter in today and it is what I thought: waitlisted (post-interview). :scared:

The letter actually says this:

The Committee on Admissions for the College of Medicine has reviewed your application for admission to the Class entering in 2010. Our purpose in notifying you at this time is to let you know that the Committee has not made a final decision on your application. The Admissions Committee will review your application on a periodic basis until a final decision has been made. Bla bla bla, I'll know something by mid-April, bla bla bla.

Poop, I really want in here.

Yeh that is not really a waitlist letter. I know people that have gotten that letter and then been accepted later on in the cycle. The good news is I have never heard of anyone getting that letter and then later on getting rejected. It is at least the waitlist and maybe even an acceptance before then.
I really want in this school too. It is my fourth application but I have not even been invited for an interview yet. 🙁

Does anyone know where UT is in the 1st interview cycle. When do they stop interviews for the holiday break? Have they filled interview slots up till the break already or are there still slots available? I completed long ago but still have no interview invite.

I am interviewing in early December. Has anyone here interviewed as a reapplicant? PM me if you don't mind. I'd like to hear what all is different.

The only real difference is that you will have one interview (probably in the morning) and then you can feel free to leave after lunch or sit in on a class or something. Typically the first time applicants will have a second afternoon interview so they don't plan activities for you during the afternoon.

Several people have referred to the interview "cycle" and the end of the current cycle, etc. Does someone actually have more specific info on that.

Since the committee meets about every other Friday is each cycle two weeks? Basically my question is this: do people actually know what they're talking about or are they just repeating things that they've read on other threads?

From what I know, UT gives interviews in batches. They categorize applicants based on a lot of factors such as time when complete, MCAT score, GPA cutoff, etc. and prioritize your application. They wait until they have a certain number of people and fill up interviews for good while for people who fall into that particular category. Just how long I do not know, but I do know they don't send out interviews every time their committee meets. Their Friday meetings are primarily to make final decisions on people that they have interviewed. The first cycle, from what I was told from UT med students, correct me if I'm wrong which I could be, was reserved for applicants with 30+ MCAT's and probably a gpa restriction who had their application in by a certain time period. Just how long they filled interviews with applicants who fell into that category is unknown to me. I think they sent out another batch of interviews with people in a different category already, meaning the "second cycle" I'm assuming. Don't know if that helps or anything but yeah, I think it's more of a buzz word than anything that has a clear definition.

Talked to a student who applied last year and he said that is their version of a waitlist. Very few schools actually say the term "waitlist" as not to aggrevate applicants. Sorry.

Yes this explination of cycles is what I was referring to. "First cycle" is typically before xmas and is populated by the 3.9 GPA and 35 MCAT people. The "second cycle" is typically around or after xmas and is the more average joe kind of applicants.
Why do you believe they are into the "2nd cycle" of interviews? Are they still giving interviews for before the holiday break or have they stopped sending invitations for now?

I would love to pretend that I am a part of that first cycle, but I doubt that I am. I am interviewing in early December and have an MCAT score of 29 and a GPA a little below 3.5. I'd think that I was more akin to the "Average Joe" grouping. I am thankful nonetheless.

For those of you who got letters/acceptances after interviews, did you receive them when Diane said you would? Supposedly I should find out this Friday, but I don't want to get excited about it if I won't really hear for a while after that. Sooooo nervous, yet can't change a thing at this point!

I figured they were in the second cycle because I know some people who got interviews for late november and december with 29's that didn't get interviews during the first cycle.

Hang in there! I got my packet ten days after the committee met to review my application. Hope that helps! Stay positive, I'm sure you're good to go!

I had given up hope for UT-Memphis but after having my primary application complete sometime in mid-June, on November 13, I finally received the supplemental application. 😱

I received my notification of acceptance I believe on a Sunday or Monday night. The packet itself did not arrive until a week or two later. I'm also on the extreme polar opposite side of the state, so the distance may have played a factor as well.

Good luck to those still interviewing or awaiting decisions. :luck::luck:

If possible, could you tell when you submitted your primary and when you completed your secondary application?

Thanks.

Did you have a pretty high GPA? I dont mean to pry into your personal info but I am a little confused. I know a few guys with MCAT scores of 29-32 that still have not received interviews. However, their GPA was only okay so maybe that is the difference.

That sounds like me, I have a 29 and an okay GPA and am still waiting for an interview invite. I emailed Ms. Harris to see when my secondary was received, and she sent me an email saying that I should get an email "soon" telling me when my interview is scheduled. That implies that I'm getting an interview, but I would be so relieved if I had the interview invite already!

Woohoo!!! My parents just called, and I got in! They got the acceptance back home today!

I got a similar email from Ms. Harris. I also interpreted it to be receiving an interview invite in a few days. But it's been about a week and I haven't heard anything. Wonder what that email really means..I'm confused.

Haha, I received a very similar email about a month ago. I thought I would be getting an interview invite soon afterwards, but I'm still waiting. Now I don't feel so special...

Sorry for not replying to those who asked about my GPA. My gpa is pretty low honestly, it is like a 3.4. Granted I made a 2.6 my freshmen year and a 3.98 for like the last 70 hours. I'm pretty strong in my other areas and am a URM. Good luck and stay positive. I also wrote an additional page when I sent in my secondary addressing my mistake as a freshman and HOW I have learned from them and it has prepared me for medical school. I don't know if it helped me or not but I visited Memphis in April and was also able to give concrete reasons for attending UTM in my additional letter.

does anyone know Ms. Harris from admissions e-mail and/or phone number? did not see it on the UT website..

Awful quiet in here recently. Are they done interviewing for the winter break?

So, here's the most updated info as far as I know (because I just interviewed there last Wednesday - Dec 3). They are interviewing all the way until the week before xmas. I believe Ms. Harris said the last time the committee will meet before xmas is Dec 18. Also, for those of you waiting on interview invites, I only got my invitation a week and a half ahead of the interview, so it may come up pretty quickly. Finally, I believe they are back to interviewing applicants the first week of Jan. Good luck to all of you waiting on decisions and interview invites! Getting into to UT sure would make a nice xmas present!

Good news...I'm in! I interviewed Wed, Dec 3rd, got an email on the 7th, and the packet arrived today (Dec 9th)! I'm so excited! I look forward to seeing all of you in Memphis next fall - this is definitely my top choice! PS I'm from Memphis, and have lived here most of my life, so if anyone has questions about the city, where to live and logistics, PM me! Good luck to everyone and just be patient! It's been a long road for me... and there were definitely times when it seemed like I'd never get to go to medical school, so just be patient!

Congrats TNMD2010! Gosh I hope I get the word soon.

CONGRATS tnmd2010!!!! great news and good luck to everyone else!

tnmd- did you email say your acceptance packet is on the way or just your letter is on the way?

Got an interview invite today for early Jan! =D I'm psyched!

Does anyone know if the University of Tennessee actually sends secondaries this late for the possibility of an interview invite? When I called to check the status of my application there was no update and the lady said this was good news?? 😕

Hi mb87! my email said (actually in the subject line) that my acceptance packet was on the way. last year it said that my letter was on the way and i was put on hold, and then waitlisted...! good luck everyone and happy holidays!

My secondary was verified about a month ago. I hadn't heard from UT, so I decided to e-mail them today and this was the reply I got. I know it's a little late in the application process but do you think this letter means that I am invited for an interview or it has not been confirmed yet. It is driving me nuts!

Hey, I think that means that you are going to get an interview and will get an email with several weeks notice before the interview date they have or will assign you. Sounds like they have reviewed your app favourably and you are just waiting until they evaluate a certain number of people and officially assign interview dates and interviewers to all of them. I'd say you're gold!

Yeah, I got the same email. And received an invite. Don't expect it to come too soon though. Mine took more than a month of waiting after the email before the invite finally came. But yeah, that means you'll get an interview with them soon.

Hey guys,

Has anyone gotten an interview invite since the new year started? Any people that have interviewed in January get any info on how many seats are left or anything?

Hey Xslim! I interviewed last week...there were 6 in our group. They didn't actually tell us how many seats were left (and for some reason none of us thought to ask!!) But they did mention interviewing up until March, so there should be plenty on invites yet to come. I got my invite about 2 weeks prior to the date!

PS: HAS ANYONE WHO INTERVIEWED LAST WEEK GOTTEN AN EMAIL FROM DIANE HARRIS YET? By reading around it seems like most people get them on a Monday or Tuesday, unless their interviewer wasnt able to be present, but I havent heard anything yet.

Lastly, for those of you who havent interviewed at UT yet... its GREAT! A really relaxed day, nice students, and friendly interviewers. I will post feedback to help!

I interviewed last week also. I know for a fact that we're being presented to the committee on Friday. So we should hear back by this week. Sometime during the day though, they said all communication will be through snail mail. So if they made a decision on Friday and mail out on Mon, the letter should reach us either tomorrow or day after. I hope.

Alrighty! thanks. i was reading the forum and saw other people saying they got e-mails telling them their "letters or acceptance packets" were on the way...guess our interview group wasn't that lucky! hate this waiting game!!!

No letter today. Maybe tomorrow..

Good luck to all those waiting to hear back! I called Diane yesterday regarding the status of my interview date. She sounded slightly annoyed and told me nothing had changed, that my date would be set in either February or March, that January is completely booked. Do you guys know if the February or March batch of interviewees have a smaller chance of getting accepted than the ones who have already been interviewed or if the later interviews are just for the wait list or do they determine acceptances based purely on same#acceptances/batch? Thanks guys!

My understanding is that they have a limit for each batch. There is a certain number of acceptances that they give out for each batch of interviewees. In theory interviewing later should not hurt you too badly at this school, but they may have a smaller number of acceptances to give during the late batches. Good luck. I am still waiting to hear from them also.
