I don't think that the waitlist starts until April or so. Deferred students who have not been accepted will then be transferred to the waitlist in some preferential order. I know that a lot of matriculants come in off of the waitist, and I have several friends that did it last year. Oh the weight of a wait.

About how long after your interview did it take to hear anything? I know it kind of varies from person to person, but on average how long?

I feel a bit insecure about posting so much, but oh well. The committee will meet the friday after your interview or the friday after that. One week after that date, they will send letters out about their decision. I got my letter the next day, but I only live a couple of miles from the schoolThey may or may not send you an email before that to let you know that it will be sent. Good luck. Hope the interviews went well.

Thanks, I wouldn't worry about posting so much, some people post ALL the time.

So the adcom meets every other Friday, and then do they decide either accepted, rejected, or waitlisted?

Yes, they decided Accepted, Rejected, Or "Decision has not yet been made". The last of which will become waitlist if no decision is made before may.

anyone else just completely torn between here and Quillen?! I'm trying to make a decision to open up places for others but... I just can't decide!!! 😕

I wish I had that dilemma... both are good schools. Quillen straight up rejected me though for no apparent reason.

DISCLAIMER: I'm a student a UT, but have several friends at ETSU (in all four years).

The decisions really boils down to what you think you want to do as far as residency and practice is concerned.

If you're pretty sure you want to do something in primary care (general internal medicine, family, even some peds), ETSU would still be an awesome choice. However, if you want to go into anything else (surgery, ER, speciality practice, radiology), UT would give you better opportunities, both in rotations and exposure. UT also has a higher first-time pass rate for the Step I, either due to the curriculum, or the pure neuroticism of the students (haha).

Anyone know if UT is receptive to LOIs? I'm in the decision deferred category and wondering if I could/should do anything to help nudge them in the right direction. Thoughts?

Can't hurt! Call Nelson Strothers and ask him. He's very receptive to applicants and is extremely helpful as far as questions of this nature are concerned. I know that have not compiled a ranked waitlist yet so if you send in a letter, maybe you'll get ranked higher?? I don't know but doesn't hurt to call! GL!

Well... it looks like I have a "letter" on the way. Too bad, I really wish it was an acceptance packet. 👎

Just curious, has anyone gotten the "on hold" letter then later been accepted?

This happens to a few every year. Also, being "on hold" can still mean you're in the top of the waitlist, which is a good position to be in. On average, about 50 people are taken off the waitlist every year. As it gets closer to midsummer, the admissions staff will usually give you an idea of where you are on the list and if you should be making plans to move to Memphis 🙂

How long after the interview do they notify you of a decision?

Anybody knows if the committee will meet this Friday?

Thanks.

Same here, and the letter says "no decision has been made. The Adcom will review your application on a periodic basis until a final decision is made". In other words, waitlisted. Painfull, long wait for a final decision:scared:

My letter was just sent today according to diane :scared::scared::scared:

Also I'm very nervous because my friend with a high mcat and decent GPA got rejected from Memphis post interview. And he was in state!

How common is it to be rejected post interview?

It appears that it is fairly rare but it does happen I guess.

That's the 'no decision' letter.

That's the 'no decision' letter.
I have heard - especially by reading this thread - about people that got the 'no decision' letter and then got accepted later in the cycle... hopefully I will be that lucky.

So I just got the invite letter from Diane. However, I couldn't open her links. Not sure if anyone else is having this problem. Anyways, do you guys know whether the personal interview or the academic interview is first? So nervous and excited...:xf:

Congratulations!
I didn't have any problems with my links, but I'm sure Ms. Diane will help you out if you send her an e-mail. Just be patient Mon-Wed because she's running around making sure everyone has an awesome interview day!
For me, the academic interview was first, but I'd guess it's random. Both of them were easy going, so other than the fact that the second one mentioned not having my grades, I wouldn't have known which was which lol.
Good luck!!!!!

That's the 'no decision' letter.

Really because my other friends said the no decision is when they haven't made a decision on your status and review it on a periodical basis. He was flat out rejected as in you have to apply next year.

That's the 'no decision' letter.

The "no decision" letters is absolutely NOT a rejection letter. It's the letter they send you prior to forming the ranked waitlist. About a third to half of my class initially got the "no decision" letter, and now we're about 3 weeks from being M2s 🙂

I didn't say it was...

I doubt your numbers considering I was the 'top fourth to third' from the waitlist last year.

His numbers are good. They typically take 50 to 60 or so students off the wait list. Since the class is 165 students, 50 off of the wait list would be close to a third of the class.

Why did 2 spots open up, MonsterAddict?

From what I heard last time I spoke with Nelson, he said that they accept over the quota of 165 students, approximately 200 students, because a lot of students will withdraw their acceptances. It seemed like the list was separate from the waitlist. Anyone else heard this?

My apologies, I misread. I thought he said 1/3 to 1/2 of the waitlist gets accepted.

Any one going to Memphis the last weekend in March for the scholarship weekend?

Disclaimer: I know people with lower stats that were higher on the waitlist. 👎

3.8c 3.85sci/32 instate.

Do you know when we'll hear a final decision (accepted, rejected, waitlist)?

Yeah...that is so true.. I heard about people getting in with much lower MCAT scores than yours. The admission process to Med School is sooo subjective especially when it comes to the interview part (unfortunately).

Good luck to all of us waiting! 🙂

My letter said that interviews end April 16th (or around then) and final decisions (accept, reject, waitlist) will be mailed out by April 23rd.

Hey my friend said that he got a conditional acceptance to Memphis. If I get accepted I think I'll get the conditional acceptance since our stats are similar 3.45 and 28 MCAT.

Conditional? Please explain

They say he has been accepted because of the interview and his leadership and experience. However they said they would only be allowed into the school if he enrolls in a summer program and makes a grade cutoff. If he doesn't make it he will be denied if he makes it he will be accepted into the 2014 class. Our stats are very similar as well as our apps. But I've never heard of this before. He is also instate.

O rly? I've never heard of that... interesting.

My wife and I were going, but we chose somewhere else. That's were the 2 spots come from

Jesus... That's cutting it kinda close to May 15th deadline. They also going to put out financial aid reports in that time frame too?
