Is this the only pre-match date or are there going to be others before february 1? I interviewed here November 6 and have not heard anything... has anybody from that date been accepted or have they not sent those to committee yet?

does anyone know how often/frequently they accept people during this prematch period of Nov 15-Dec 31??

Anyone have a dec 4 interview? Just curious if those invites went out already...

I'm curious too... since I haven't received an invite from UTMB yet. Anyhow I think they will send those invites out this upcoming friday. I saw on the thread that someone got an invite on 10/6 for the 10/20 interview. So yay we still have a chance!!

prematched, interviewed 9/11

I've seen you on other threads meerkatmd, how many schools did you get in this year?! It seems like you've got quite a load of prematches! CONGRATs!!!👍

it's a ridiculous video! Pm me ur email and I'll send the unzipped version

I believe so.

Hey anyone else hitting up the Austin area get together 12/8?? I'm excited!

For those who got accepted, has anyone got the official letter of acceptance yet and been able to accept the offer on TMDSAS online?

Ill be at the one in Austin on the 8th......the offer is still not up on the TMDSAS website for accept/decline and I have not received the letter yet either.

Hey for all those that heard good news on friday- I got an official acceptance letter and a couple of things to sign in the mail today. Just an FYI to be looking for it.

Where do you live in TX yemms1172? Maybe your location is why you got your letter first.

I am in College Station- 2-3 hours from galveston

BTW- for those still in "is this really happening" shock- getting something in the mail makes it so much more real!

I can't stop smiling!

Figures....im in San Antonio (4+ hours from galvy).

Has anybody who interviewed on Nov. 6 been pre-matched? Is this even possible?

I got my official letter yesterday as well. I live in Houston, about 50 min away.

this letter is taking a painstakingly long time to travel to Odessa

and also, has utmb shown up on anyone's prematch acceptance thing on TMDSAS yet?

I haven't gotten my letter either... maybe it'll be inn the box when I get home from work.

still no letter...no tmdsas acceptance thingy. they are pulling a good trick on me.

ok, question....

So if you guys are accepted to more than one school, why would you choose to attend UTMB? I'm having a tough time making a decision and have heard some various ideas about why UTMB is a poor choice. For example, people are saying they lost allot of their residents which could impact 3rd and 4th year training. They lost their state prisoner contract (affects ID), and their clinical partnership with Austin?

anyone know if these things are true? Those are smaller issues really, but anyone else have anything to add about why you chose or would choose UTMB?

Well a really big selling point for me was that they correlate teaching and exams with how the USMLE is structured. From what they said at interview that style has paid off in terms of high USMLE scores....that means alot to me.

  1. The UTMB-Seton relationship is going to be slowly replaced by a UTSW-Seton partnership in order to bring in new residents to the Austin area. To my understanding, however, the MS3-MS4 program is STILL continuing with Austin (link).
  2. 3rd and 4th Year Clerkships otherwise remain unchanged, with the exception of new UTMB clinics opening up on the mainland.
  3. Not sure where you heard that UTMB and the TDCJ cut the contract, but I'm pretty sure that such is not the case. It was recommended by the Kurt Salmon report (the one that also suggested moving UTMB off the island) that only the medical school, research facilities, and the TDCJ Hospital remain open, with everything else being moved off island (link). Current clerkship registration documents still include the TDCJ as a clinical site.
UTMB is still running strong, thankfully. I don't think that anyone should fear that they are going to get short-changed on their medical education should they come to Galveston.

So no worries!

It depends what other schools are you comparing to.

Thanks, I really appreciate it. The TDCJ thing was mostly hearsay, my research happened to use the hospital that accepted that population during and after the storm, I know they bid for the contract so I guess just misinformation. Thanks for the update. I'm heavily leaning towards utmb and this helped, thanks again.

Good point, I'm deciding between utmb and Tech Lubbock.

I prematched at UTMB and already have received my acceptance letter, but it still hasn't shown up on TMDSAS....is this happening to anyone else? I read that earlier that it has been an issue but wanted to know if anyone had the prematch showing up on TMDSAS.

Thanks!

So I guess invites for December 4th haven't gone out yet? Is that still the last date? I emailed last week but no response as of yet.

I would be leaning to UTMB also, the rest is up to fit, feel and full ride or half ride.

I just had my interview there last friday-- I was wondering when the admissions committee met and how soon we will hear back??

So, nothing is has shown up on TMDSAS for utmb for me either. I did receive the official letter and mailed it back. I figured I would contact TMDSAS about it early next week if nothing changes. Not too worries about it, I do have an official letter and all.

I'm curious too 🙂 I was also there for that interview. I'm anticipating sometime early-mid December if they actually do have 2 more 'waves' of pre-matches to give out. However, didn't they say during the lunch session that they had given out 400 acceptances already?? 😕

I can't imagine they have too many more pre-matches to give out... 👎

anyone want to call and ask when pre-matches will be sent to those who interviewed last Friday? 🙂

Whoa, did they actually say that during lunch? I kinda' missed lunch because my interview went on for too long.

Thanks

I really like the curriculum and the high scores. They explained what they do very well and did the best job of any school selling me on it. They didn't avoid what the questions concerning the future of the school and instead hit it head on explaining the commitments from the government for the future. The half day of classes appealed to me as I would have a lot of time to study and could actually spend time at the free clinic versus some schools where it didn't seem reasonable given their schedules.
